Hey man, don't worry about it. You played a good game. Time pressure is a killer. This was a painful but valuable lesson! It's easy for me to say always protect your back rank, trade down when you're material ahead, always understand your opponents threats, etc. But, you already know all that. It was just the clock. You're showing great progress and really playing well. Keep it up!
yea the time was rough on me. I have to do better to not get in such bad trouble with time pressure. Thanks for the kind words man.
3 minute puzzle rush or forcing yourself to do easier puzzles but only giving yourself around 15 to 20 seconds to do them might help so that you can trust yourself to spot the formation of tactics more subconsciously. Playing bullet (1 | 0) and just trusting your gut might be a big help as well (or try 3 | 0 blitz) in learning to make moves quickly. I've gotten to 1400 bullet but I feel like I've stagnated a little bit and you've inspired me to try 15 | 10. Slowing down and working through more complicated positions will probably help me a ton. Thank you for sharing!
I am the worlds worst bullet player lol I have tried it but my goodness i am terrible. Maybe you are right though. trying to get better at that and developing my instincts some may help me with the clock which is absolutely one of my biggest problems in rapid
You’re playing really well. Don’t lose heart, it was the clock that got you in the end.
yea i have to get better at time management so i dont get in these positions. thanks buddy
This game got weird when the opponent left the pawn sitting on d4 right off the get go. I wonder if capturing the pawn on a5 around 39:37 might have been a good idea? Then the Rook would have to deal with 2 passed pawns. But the clock was ticking. Good game all things considered. Thanks for the content!
yea this game was weird the whole way through. I hung that pawn in the opening although he didnt capture I just never was able to right the ship. Of course my opponent played a great game and had a lot to do with that. Thanks for watching buddy
Hey man, I know losing hurts but you played really well. It was just the clock that beat you. That checkmate wasn't obvious and all the action was on the other side of the board. With the time pressure you were almost bound to miss it. You found a bunch of good moves, avoided some traps and outplayed your opponent. Try not to worry about your ELO too much. Easier said than done of course, but if you keep improving the results will follow.
The only concrete advice I can give you is this. It's great that you're looking for tactics ( I'm not just saying this, lots of people don't look enough) and they can appear at any time, but generally you're more likely to find them when you're pieces are developed, and defended. When you're opponent missed taking that pawn early on, spend a few seconds maybe looking for tactics but not too long. Just play c3 and connect your pawns back up. Later on just get your rooks into the game. You can do these simple things quickly and save your time for when tactics are more likely to work. Your instincts are getting better. There were a few times in this game where you could have made an obvious looking move that was bad and you avoided them all. Take a few days off if you are feeling frustrated. It's more important to keep your love for the game than to upload content every day. All the best!
I very much still love the game I just get really frustrated with myself for making such silly mistakes. I appreciate the very well thought out comment too. I think one of my biggest problems is that I do spend so much time looking for tactics not just for myself but my opponent too and i get myself in time trouble. Every move simply cant take 90 seconds and that is something that i have to get better at. Thanks for watching and the advice, man.
