  • Hello Shiny Crafty People and welcome back to the channel!
Today I'm reacting to a video I saw that shows how to make custom reversible gift bags! I really enjoyed their tutorial but I had a few suggestions for how to make the handles stronger and how to finish the interior seam so that it is truly reversible.
Be sure to check out the original video for all the details and to support their channel. Here's the link: • 🎄⭐ Don't buy gift bags...
Thanks for joining me today. Until next time, Stay Crafty!

Hi Tim, I agree with you about the handles. As a quilter and bag maker I often gift cloth bags with quilts. I use the scraps from the quilt to make a matching tote bag, if it's a child they have nice bag for taking toys to grandma's house.

I’m currently making reversible gift bags for my family (100% hand sewn). I’m using Christmas fabric on the outside and lining with a fabric suitable for birthdays. For most of them, I’m using a drawstring instead of handles.

I made these last Christmas for each family member. I left the turn-through opening at the top of the bag since it will be top-stitched anyway so totally reversible.

Tim - I have been sewing for many years. Just recently, I watched a YT video and made my young granddaughters small crossbody bags. While sewing, a couple of times, I asked myself, "What am I doing? Gram taught me better!" 😊. They turned out cute...but "I did it my way."

I agree, the handles need to be made from something stronger. It is gorgeous fabric for sure!

I kinda like using a paper bag for a pattern...that's the part that always stresses me out - the measurements! Very pretty bag! Thanks for your hints and suggestions!

Gift bags are wonderful for oddly shaped objects.

I used gift bags when pressed for time but would love to make from scratch. I did your placemat baskets last year and were a hit, made some for myself!!! Keep up with new ideas
    Have a Merry Christmas 🎄🎁

Besides a stronger handle, I be concerned about the bottom be saggy as well. I like to make bags to take to the grocery store. Beautiful fabric. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

Webbed handles or interfaced material hadles would be preferable. That material is far too lovely to restict usage by ribbon handles!

I agree with the hand stitching comment however most nonsewers won't notice that

Pretty but I think that ribbon would break

I would have taken some of the outside material, cut to length + width I need ( + seam all., with or w/o interfacing), made tube and turned to give it extra strength. Or wide heavier grosgrain ribbon. Thanks for the video Tim.

To be truly useful, it should be made of more durable fabrics and much stronger straps.

Hi Tim, I love your videos. Do you think you could make an easy reusable grocery bag. And show how to make it different sizes, with a stable bottom for groceries. Since more states are banning plastic grocery bags. Thank you for your consideration.

I would use the stabilizer to help hold heavier presents.

I watched the original video and thought it was good. This is a new one for me - a youtuber commenting on another youtuber’s video. At least you didn’t insult the person. Why not just show us your version.

I have watched a lot of YT videos making bags (totes, backpacks, etc.) and this is typical of the step-by-step directions. I am disappointed by the negativity you expressed while watching this. Nobody is saying you have to use the materials they used and nobody shows tutorials in real time, including you. Lighten up!

He is critiquing the choice of fabrics used, and giving suggestions to make a sturdier gift bag that can be used more than once or twice. I think he’s correct. Try taking a dance class to learn how to accept being critiqued.
