When you save it as assembly do parts keep its original places or do you need to mate them together? Looks like cool feature if can check moving mechanism to see if it works as intended in assembly mode since you can't do it when you model the entire thing as part.
The assembly extracted from multiple bodies of part will jut keep its original place and if you need to make animation, you will need to add suitable mates.

Thanks for the video - I am just wondering if it is possible to do this for a multi-body sheet metal parts and have them saved out but then also still being able to flatten the pieces. I have been trying to work this out but am having no luck as it coverts them only to Solid-bodies. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yes, you can do that but for Flatten you need macro or use isolated techniques. Check out the below links :

Only one issue I have. I can't edit the exported parts after saving them all. Feature Works isn't showing up??
Your welcome, you can edit the master model and It will effect on the saved bodies.

Thank you. I have a question: I have a 3d model which contains 1000+ bodies. SW detect each one as separate part even thou, many of them are the same. Can I somehow detect same bodies, so I wouldn't end up with bunch of same files.

You can try to save file as assembly and then control parts as you wish.

How can a create stepfile of Assembly which have parts saved inside assembly!?
you can follow these steps:
Open your Assembly: Launch SolidWorks and open the assembly file (.sldasm) that you want to export as a STEP file.
Save As: Go to File > Save As.
Choose File Type: In the "Save As" dialog box, select "STEP (*.step; *.stp)" from the "Save as type" dropdown menu. This is where you specify the file format you want to export to.
Options: After selecting STEP file format, click on the "Options" button next to the dropdown menu. This opens the STEP Export Options dialog box.
Export Options:
Assembly Structure: Ensure that "Assembly structure" is set to "Single file".
Output Files: Make sure that "Include all components" is checked. This ensures that all parts included in your assembly will be exported along with the assembly.
Save: Once you have set your options, click "OK" to close the STEP Export Options dialog box.
Save As Dialog: Back in the "Save As" dialog box, choose the location where you want to save the STEP file and enter a name for the file.
Save: Finally, click "Save" to export your assembly as a STEP file.

hi , I have a problem in converting weldment into an assembly the repeated body don't save in the assembly as a repetition, but it's saved as different parts for example the identical legs of a table are saved as 4 parts not as a single part copied 4 tames , is there a solution , by the way Iam using SOLIDWORKS 2019
because I need a it so save as a single part for the bom
It seems an issue in solidworks template, try to restore default settings or change this version..
