    I'm not a dancer and have only had the opportunity to see a very few ballets live in my life and I'm 60 ( I live in quite a remote area)...... But being retired now I have lots of time to study things( online) that I'm interested in and ballet has turned out to be one of those subjects that just fascinates....so this series from the Royal Opera house has been especially welcome. I knew dancers worked very very hard but this series of videos has been just so informative and instructional… I've love to everyone and learnt so much thank you you've made me really happy.

      +Warrendoe I've had a similar experience. I'm twenty-seven, have been passionate about ballet since I was three--but since I discovered The Australian Ballet's channel and their series "A Year Inside the Australian Ballet" four years ago, I've learned a TON about the different companies, contemporary choreographers (Ratmansky, Forsythe, Wheeldon...), the various companies' repertoires, and I subscribe to and watch videos from several companies: the ROH, NYCB, Australian Ballet and Pacific Northwest Ballet. It's one thing to read about the different companies and about what it's like to be a dancer--it's quite another to SEE those things, as well as the different ballets (for example, in '06, my dad and I almost got tickets to see Jewels at NYCB--a ballet that I hadn't heard of yet. In the last few years, I've watched several videos about that ballet.).

    Ballet dancers are the ultimate athletes. As a fan of all dance, and an osteopath, I applaud that these dancers are being so well looked after.

      No, they're not, not when so many of them are sneaking off for ciggie breaks between barre and centre.

    It's the least they deserve! These dancers are used to the hilt. Fine when you're in top form but very easy to overuse the body to the point you are no longer of use to the company...this is not privilege, it's a basic right for classical dancers who are required always to be on top form.

    That's absolutely wonderful to see. I teach Pilates and Gyrotonic, and I wish I knew of that when I was dancing, they are a must for elite movers.

    Great to see nowadays dancers are respected when injuries occur. In MARGOT'S and RUDY days you went home and soaked in a tub with Epsom Salts.

    Great video, Royal Opera House. It is indeed of great importance to show all the labor envolved for a ballet presentation. Ballet is a real difficult art and requires a lot of sacrifice and hard work.

    This is such a great.facility. i don't think it's at all strange for dancers to use weights - good for rehab but also good for building strength for partnering.

    This is so interesting. Ballet dancers make performing look effortless, but these people have to be strong and tough.

    I'm not a dancer but am recovering from my lower back going out and spasms, so strong I couldn't turn over in bed let alone get out of bed. I wonder how they deal with things like that.

    Very Nice. Is an antigravity room too important.....since its winter...and perhaps low sealevel. All you might need is an elevation of several feet and a 3 foot floor mat to fall or rest on. In other words, you're trying to release joints a little....and remove their weight barring for a little....bit. You had that in the past....only issue many take to flexing their back....not sure if that's a natural pose most assume with no gravity.

      @Rie Ta -san,
      Thank you very much.
      I treat ballet dancers and actors in Japan, but only a few. In Japan, there is no therapist at the ballet company.
      Japan has its unique medical sports acupuncture and sports massage treatments that support athletes, but they are not often considered. This is because “The grass is always greener on the other side”. Rather, it is appreciated by artists who come to Japan from abroad.
      I would like to treat the ballet dancers who need it with the experience and knowledge of the treatment I have gained so far. I also want to leave it to the therapist who wants to learn it.
