It sounds like your heart has hardened due to sin. Is what you are calling awful or repentant may feeling a sense of guilt or shame, or even self hatred. I understand all of these things. And I understand a hard heart. But the word Repent means to turn around and go in the other direction. Or to change your mind about sin. I believe we can repent without having a contrite heart. No that is not the ideal. But repentance is meant to be for a lifetime. That said you obviously have a contrite heart because of your bawling at home. It doesn't have to be before anyone else that you cry. I've prayed for the washing of tears many times. True contrition is a great gift from God. But even with a hard heart a person can understand their need for Confessing their sins. Is it perfect? No. But it can lead to sincere repentance. And again to repent is to turn away from sin. In order for a confession to be valid we must simply confess all our sins completely, holding nothing back, and HAVE A SINCERE PURPOSE OF AMENDMENT, (Or to never commit those sins again.) It doesn't mean we won't fall back into sin, but we must do battle with sin intentionally choosing to deny it. I think it was Paul who said "You have not yet resisted sin to the point of shedding blood". This i believe is like the grief that Jesus experienced when He shed His blood in His agony in the garden. We all need a savior. Not one of us will ever be good enough to get to heaven on our own. God forgives us so that we might be in a living, daily relationship with Him. Then it's a matter of truly entering into the sacramental life and a relationship with God. If in your situation it isn't shame or guilt it could possibly be that you may not trust fully in God forgiving you. We must come with confidence and trust to our heavenly Father knowing that He desires to forgive us. As well we must believe in the forgiveness of our sins and once we have confessed then leave them in the past and at the door of the cross of Jesus. I know a person who grieved her sins but could not bring herself to confess them. She didn't trust in being forgiven. Thus she carried those sins just hoping things would get better. In her case her father was a hard man and an alcoholic. In most people's life we come to know our Heavenly Father by the way we have known our earthly Father. And in many cases some of those father's have given their kids the wrong example of who their heavenly Father is. Thus their ability to trust in A loving God and to trust in His forgiveness can be a struggle for such a person. The Bible says "Without Faith it is impossible to please God". God wants us all to place our faith in His Son Jesus. This is why Jesus came. He came to bear our sins. Without Him we can do nothing. Our own worthiness or goodness will never be enough. One time I was wondering if feared going to hell or if I loved God and how He spoke to me was through scripture "Herein is how you know that you love Me, you keep My commandments"...... A person can do penance not only for reparation for their own sins but also to develop virtues and reparation to merit graces for the conversion of other sinners. Also the disorders on the soul, mind and body by their own sins are not usually eradicated by baptism, even though all sacraments if worthily received can correct those disorders or damage to some extent, but it is very rare that they do so fully. Penance helps correct those disorders faster than with sacraments alone. Just doing it for the greater glory of God, the development or maintaining of virtues such as temperance and purity is enough of a reason to do penance. Fasting and doing sacrifices of the self-will also helps sanctify the person and increase the effect of prayer if it is done for love of God.
@@MrMercuryW Can you give some examples of "sacrifices of the self will" that would apply to appropriate penance...it would seem to me that some lesser form, or even extreme form, of exorcism would be an option
Can anyone give some concrete suggestions on how to do penance? I struggle with feeling like I can never do enough. I don't know what is good vs. too extreme.
Talk to your confessor, you really shouldn't start (major) penances on your own. Smaller things could be simply limiting your daily luxuries, like not eating meat or very varied food outside special occasions, or not taking hot showers, or not sleeping in a bed, etc.
As someone below mentioned, things like avoiding the elevator and taking extra stairs is a good small penance. Basically, consult a priest or confessor for any penance which is extraordinary or seems extreme to you; some penances can be downright dangerous and lead to further problems and issues. Other examples of more normal & manageale penances could be things like offering up painful foot cramps without trying to soothe them, or taking painful cold showers - though if you have heart issues or other similar medical conditions you should avoid them as they can be dangerous. Another idea is denying oneself one's favorite pleasures and entertainments, fasting to become hungry and enduring the discomfort, putting tiny pebbles in one's socks or shoes, enduring frustrating things without avoiding them, etc. Remember, good works also contribute to wiping out temporal debt, so you don't have to only do difficult things whose only attribute is their difficulty. And keep in mind, penance isn't meant to torture you or make you go overboard, as God in His loving mercy also offers us plenary indulgences everyday which remove temporal debts - if you can have complete detachment from all sin (which isn't heroically impossible for ordinary lay people - among other things, it means there is no sin you're unwilling to give up, no occasion of sin you're unwilling to avoid, that you're fully willing to see sin cease to exist & no longer be attractive, that you no longer hope for or look back on sin as kinda enjoyable in some way though you hate it, etc - praying to God for such detachment would be a good idea) then you can gain plenary indulgences which can wipe away all the temporal debt. So don't be afraid and don't worry!
You could follow St Theresa's little way, little things, there are so many in a day.......even picking up a pen in reparation , for love for God. You could....skip breakfast or lunch or both, but start slow on fasts until you get used to it. You could let humiliations, humble you....like when someone does or says something to you that has hurt or offended you, try not to defend yourself but take that suffering and offer it to God instead of trying to gratify your own feelings by retaliation etc this is hard to do, ask for the grace, our Blessed Mother is most generous. Fast from TV, radio, talking, social media etc. Do things that are difficult, get up early to pray, bed early, or pray late. Push yourself, if you talk alot when in company, try staying silent and only listen. Also remember that Charity is the royal Cloak, without which, we cannot enter heaven. Charity covers a multitude of Sins, Charity is love. To pray for someone is a great Charity, to pray for your enemy or anyone that has done you wrong is even a greater Charity. Be lion hearted, rock ribbed. Also one most important thing to remember, never boast of you penances to others or you may lose the merits gained but it's ok to say you do penance. Do not forget prayer or you will not have the strength/grace to do these things. Pray the Rosary everyday. God bless.
@@caroline-9672 Thank you Caroline…well said and very encouraging…so many of us myself included see the mountain of penance and don’t know how to begin…
A troubled soul and a contrite heart the Father will not despise. We should not seek comfort in our souls because no matter what or how much we offer, pray or suffer we fall short of the perfection of Christ. Keep yourself safe and healthy, but if you're in reasonably good shape you are not fragile. Push yourself to honor the Father, repair your sins and the sins of others. Do all with love and patience. Pax vobiscum
Angle at Fatima "Penance! Penance! Penance! D-R LK 15, 1-10 it says penance not repentance as in RSV." So I say to you, there shall be joy before the angels of God upon one sinner doing penance.
It’s a race to Heaven. You don’t stop running because you think you’re ahead of everyone else. Aim for Heaven not Purgatory . If you aim for Heaven and don’t make it, you might make it to purgatory. If you aim for purgatory and don’t make it, you fall into the abyss.
Very strong message , lord have mercy on us for we not only have lost our way , but have no clue how to come back . Loved the video gives lots to think about . But how to handle one’s self in a family, that does not see this. I am a wife and a mother , am I to say no to all that is recreational? If they are not at the same place as I am ? So they are playing games I should be in my room weeping and praying , I have however started to stray way from unnecessary phone calls that just leads to over talking . But if my family, is not on the same page as me , I could lead my marriage in to a separation. Don’t I have a duty as a wife and mother ? And should I not in my alone time do this And as I work ?
JESUS said if you love mother, father, son, daughter, husband, wife more than him , you are not worthy of him. Just ponder that. Wherever you end up going, your family is going there as well. Choose wisely.
Put The Lord before everything, doing this in my family has created such a change, not gossiping or cursing not watching what people consider normal entertainment or listening to music or joining in the general complaining and all the other things, then you stand out, you are a light, it's the Lord who will give you the grace to do it and Our Mother, we live in a very sick world, we only see it when we see we ourselves are sick and need to detach, The book of heaven by Servant of God Luisa Picaretta, revelations from Our Lord will perfectly explain how to do this, live in his will in everything and pray for this grace, God bless you and help you and us all.

One can become totally one way . We must also give our time to others as well . My family knows, that I’m not with out sin , but that I will not back down from the laws of our GOD just to make them happy . I think this is what he could have been meaning as well , when he said …do not love anyone more than your father in heaven . Love is also sharing and giving of one’s self in the proper manner.

MORTAL SIN CAN BE AS SIMPLE AS CHOOSING TO GET ANGRY ON PURPOSE, KNOWING IT IS NOT GOOD TO BE ANGRY, CORRECT??? I STILL HAVE DIFFICULTY UNDERSTANDING VENIAL vs MORTAL. I KNOW BREAKING ANY OF THE 10 COMMANDMENTS IS MORTAL SIN. BUT I'VE HEARD THAT IF YOU FREELY CHOOSE TO COMMIT THE VENIAL SIN YOU ARE IN MORTAL SIN...CAN ANYONE CONFIRM? GOD BLESS. :)
Nope. There are 3 conditions to be met for a mortal sin - full knowledge, full consent and grave matter. We can in some cases only estimate whether or not we have done all three. There are complexities that only God knows about and why we commit sins may not actually be properly understood by the individual. Simply breaking a commandment is not a mortal sin of itself unless it meets the three conditions.

My preist said you don't have to go to confession but once a month, nor do you have to pray your rosary daily, once a week will suffice. I'm seriously confused.
You don’t have to do anything. But if your conscience tells you , you ought to pray more, then you probably should. Take ur worries to prayer and ask God to show you what to discern. Daily rosary and weekly confession is great, but build up to it first. It’s better you love and pray to God with ur whole heart. And any effort is better than no effort
There's a difference between what we are obliged to do vs. best practice. The obligation is to go to confession once per year during the Easter season, and one is never obliged to pray the rosary. But **best practice** tells us to go to confession once per month or more, and to pray the rosary every day.
According to the Plenary Indulgences in the current discipline of the Church you have to go to confession at least every 20 days to still be able to get plenary indulgences. Of course it's not an obligation binding under pain of sin, but if you are able to do it, try to get one each day. Of course the guidance of a wise confessor is ideal for your case. Perhaps your priest says this because it's difficult for most people to do things like a daily rosary without neglecting their duties of state in life, because they don't have good habits of prayer and are not good at managing their time. But if you are capable of doing this sacrifice and it would not interfere with your duties as a lay person, then you should do it, and you should gradually increase time for prayer every time and work towards having some time dedicated for mental prayer during or in addition to the rosary.
You men that be known from these others by your Christian profession. Take heed, you bear in mind the piety you owe unto your country and unto your fellow countrymen, whose slaughter by the treachery of the Payneham shall be unto your disgrace everlasting. Unless you press hardily forward to defend them. Fight therefore for your country, and if it be that death overtake you, suffer it willingly for your country’s sake. For death itself is victory, and a healing unto the soul. In as much as he that shall have died for his brethren offers himself as a living sacrifice unto God, nor is it doubtful that herein he follows in the footsteps of Christ, who distained not to lay down his own soul for his breatharian. Who therefore amongst you shall be slain in this battle, unto him shall that death be as full penance and absolution of all his sins, if so be he receive it willingly on this way.

You could lose it if you commit a mortal sin, like murder, stealing, impurity, homosexuality.. You lose it, you lose your soul. (There are other mortal sins so you better search or go to mass daily or every) . Blessings tho is totally different from grace. It's when we are bestowed favor and protection from God. It's when we keep being faithful to him.
@@jeshan0659 grace is undeserved favor ?
@@christopherton grace is what we lost after the fall of Adam and Eve. Its also what God restored on the Cross and His Resurrection. Yes, its undeserved. Its only through God's sacrifice on the Cross that He willed to bring us back. But we have to do our part as well to remain at a state of grace.

Ive been wondering why Mary Magdalene did all that penance? Surely she received baptism after putting aside all those sins of the flesh.
Mr. Mercury excellent response thanks.

God bless.

Thank you Caroline…well said and very encouraging…so many of us myself included see the mountain of penance and don’t know how to begin…
Why are you no longer on the rundown? I don't watch it all the time, but I do miss your imput when I do watch it. God Bless!
Angle at Fatima "Penance! Penance! Penance! D-R LK 15, 1-10 it says penance not repentance as in RSV." So I say to you, there shall be joy before the angels of God upon one sinner doing penance.

@@Alma-tz8km Good for you! Let us all be penitent.
It’s a race to Heaven. You don’t stop running because you think you’re ahead of everyone else. Aim for Heaven not Purgatory . If you aim for Heaven and don’t make it, you might make it to purgatory. If you aim for purgatory and don’t make it, you fall into the abyss.
Thank u father!
Is this not going back to works? Does it fit in with Eph 2:8 ?.
And should I not in my alone time do this
And as I work ?

Sorry I should of wrote my message differently, I do put GOD first , I talk with him , pray to our lord and our mother , saint michel and so on .
How ever I am a wife and mother not a religious sister , I can’t pray in my room all day and night . This is what I was getting at . Refusing to spend time with my family would not be charitable.
@Angel blessing thank you for book recommendation 🙏 exactly what I was praying for this evening!!
God comes first,, the Bible talks about being equally yoked my wife gets mad n says comments about me reading the Bible and mr religous that type thing I believe this is why Jesus said this you should just follow the Lord Bro if she has a problem oh well let her go if she wants too eternity aid much more important than a woman they come n go our whole lives

- Go to a shopping centre and don't spend money.

- do not eat between meals.

- put a pebble in your shoe
- make the sign of the cross every time you sneeze, etc....
One of my parish priest said that I shouldn't go to confession more than once a week?

Go to confession weekly, in the absence of mortal sin.
Ok but what do we confess. Bad thoughts?
I need to do much penance! 🙏
Who is the speaker? Is there a transcript of this talk?
My preist said you don't have to go to confession but once a month, nor do you have to pray your rosary daily, once a week will suffice. I'm seriously confused.
Satan confuses.
@@MrMercuryW the rosary takes 15 minutes but could take an hour if you do the Gregorian rosary, anyone has 15 minutes per day

Penance is purgatory.
