Ep. 1 - NP Levels
This video is ALL ABOUT NP LEVELS! A friend of mine, DaringDan, came up with an idea for FGO Video series where the finer elements of FGO's combat. I agreed with it and now it's here. This is the first in a series we call "The Drawing Board". Today, we'll go over NP Levels. Next time we'll go over the mechanic "Instant Death" and after that, who knows~ Let us know what you think and if you want to see more in the comments, please!

Ah yes, that one mechanic that hits you far harder than you can hit with it. Can ID even work on major story bosses...(even if the chance is minuscule beyond minuscule.) And how do they affect break-bars, is it really instant, just bypassing them..

I'm not rolling for Skadi for a few reasons, but she is worth rolling for if you want to use the Quick meta with ease.
I want that sweet 50% NP charge. Waver eluded me, hopefully she doesn't.

Also besides the charge is those sweet FP. No one on from my friends list use my servants. I login and bam 25 FP a day man, just cause I don't have waver. It does pick up with ECE but to like 250 thats it.

The prime reason I rolled for np2 Memelin was because 500 extra hp on his regen skill definitely helped out with stacking fp in my favor for the most part AND save my skin around important challenges throughout November onwards since I used my own Merlin from that point on.
Thank you, fellow Master Musashi and the rest of the team of Chaldea Gurus for this video. I always got confused whenever I would max level one of my servant's Noble Phantasm but it only ever went to 300% charge, not 500%. Your video has helped cleared up a lot of confusion for me. Thank you so very much for not only this video, but all the hard work you guys put into every one of your videos.

ive been playing for a bit more than two years now and just found out a month ago that leading with a buster card boosts damage. When i first started playing i just yeeted Cu alter at everything (i have an irl whale friend) and never had to learn the mechanics of anything tbh. 2 years and a fuck load of money later, ive learned a lot about this game but realized theres a lot of little gems here and there that i have no clue about. I already knew about np stuff but maybe along the way something else i didn't know about will pop up so continue with these types of videos!
I haven't told my irl whale friend about me not knowing the buster lead thing, i know hes going to laugh his ass off if i do lol.
To be fair it’s not a huge boost in dmg so it’s fair u didn’t know or care to find out
If you wanna flex that information instead, just tell him that the boost is 50% if you start with a Buster card, and an additional 20% if it's a Buster chain~
Yeah good video to see. This is what I try telling people for skadi is how they need the higher np levels for the overkill gauge need.
Also yeah this would be a fun series to see especially since all the guides are old and with the engine update coming we may see more on na sooner before Gil fest.
ivanbluecool You don’t even use Skadi for her np much lol. It’s all in her active skills. Her NP is just an added benefit.
@@davidt6814 I meant for the np levels of the aoe unit. Skadi np 1 everyone knows is the only thing needed. Meanwhile a lot of the channels ignore how you need a quick aoe np 3 with kscope mlb to skadi loop and needing the plusuit defeats the purpose of the speed clear.
But yeah highest need for quick overall as skadi needs a lot to work and I'm sure many players will get whiplash for it. Glad Chen is next year for my arts account and Jeanne archer hope is nice.
ivanbluecool to be fair chen gong doesn’t really do anything for arts the next big arts support is lanling and after that there’s nobody else
@@amari7782 lanling that saber support or lancer unit. Either way they are not that impressive overall from what I've seen especially since they disappeared from memory.
Chen is always gonna be useful to farm especially to arts players like me with Nero bride tamano waver to do farming constantly. This year it's paracesus with his np gain up while next year tamano and nero bride get buffs.
Overall arts has the most options going forward and Chen is just an example of a good low star with para
ivanbluecool lanling is the saber qin langyu is the lancer also if we’re being honest you could do the exact same team with sieg and get better results the only difference is with chen gong is u don’t need plugsuit that much
What''s interesting is that the game does reward players who pay close attention to the small details, though sometimes there are mechanics they don't talk about at all.

I'm strongly considering rolling for another Okita so I can make mine NP2 now that she's on her final rate-up, but part of me wants to save the rest of my tickets & quartz for Skadi. The difference between NP1 & NP2 is huge, though. Man, this is tough.
@Mehmet Sarikaya Nah, I didn't, though I did get Okita Alter & Skadi so that more than compensates.
I used a friend’s Arturia Archer recently and her NP span was insane! With overcharge and other effects I was able to use it two times in a row, and even without the overcharge I was able to use it every other turn. And this was without Waver or Merlin.
Anyways, I really liked this video. It was super informative and it was the exact level of information for someone who started recently but is far enough in to understand more advanced information.

I always try to chain my NPs it helps a lot... Getting more than NP1 on a Gssr requires a lot of luck and money. I have some good luck, but a lot more bad luck... Tickets have given me an NP4 Enkidu of all servants... And no it's not bragging, FGO always giveth and taketh away more. This game is a bit more complex than many might think. Anyway tickets for summer swimsuits are the way to go! :-)

Yunosuke: its not like I doont know these already, i fine it helpful to understand the basic in an more advances way og understanding it. Besides this help out all master to make better decision on team building and using SQ on banner to increase servants np. Which is why Merlin, Tamamo, Waver and Skadi are the four kings of support.

That said, sometimes NP chains aren't the most efficient way to go. I've found it better to sometimes only focus on one NP per turn. But getting off that NP chain at the right time can have DEVISTATING results in most battles. There's a reason most of my videos have me building up NP and then unleashing them in one go.
An ideal setup would be a supportive NP to start, and your offensive NP with Overcharge scaling at the end. Think Waver to lower Defense, Merlin for the buff and a bit of that Overcharge bonus for the crit stars, then a damage dealer like Cu Alter (whose overcharge raises his attack before dealing damage), Hijikata (who deals extra damage based on low HP and Overcharge level), Summer Nobu (who deals extra damage to Divine enemies based on Overcharge level), Rama (Demonic damage based on Overcharge) or Bedivere (extra Buster damage on Overcharge before damage).
Really interesting information. I never saw any video talking about this sort of stuff before.
But so basically, quick NPs are generaly stronger on max level?
I love how np3 beowulf only gets +50 damage boost at np4 and 5
I technically started playing in the last few days of Summer 1, and started actively playing daily the following New Year's (going into 2019). It was only when forming teams to grind for the most recent Christmas event that I actually realized that NP level increased overall damage, not just gave access to >100% charge and thus more overcharge levels. Legitimately not sure how I missed that for so long, I just never connected the (in hindsight VERY obvious) dots.

Only super high np levels I have for Sr or ssr not counting welfare are Vlad shuten and nitocris and papalot saber.
Overall papalot does super damage plus spam while shuten I heard gets a np upgrade so she is gonna get better.
I wish I had Kiara ce for ereshkigal to do high attack buffs but I saw a couple of nice np up ce coming up like in saber wars so it's not a big issue.
I have several DBs but I just tend to use my level 100 CEs since most of the time the overcharge bonus ain't high enough.
My high NP level SRs are all over the place papalot Edison Parvati deon Emiya Kiyohime. SSR wise I only have 2 at NP2 jack and Mordred.

Ssr just Vlad and shuten np 2 while Nero bride waver tamano don't need more levels so I'm pretty balanced overall.
Overall I would rather have many np 1 units than a few high np level units myself. Ssr wise just art units I want higher np levels for np spame once the bride and fox buffs come

@@acertainbastard5579 yeah I would too. If I could I would get Jeanne archer and space Ishtar np 2 or 3 but I'm not a high roller so np 1 would be fine for me. Rather I like kits more than no level myself.
St unit wise quantity is what I want aside fionn I would like one more on her same with Marie.
Yeah illya is saber mature because the series she was lily form useally but now she has "matured" to be adult saber so it's fun. I just wanna see the family all together as Kerry comes back home and would be great if hiroyama announced a Kerry spin off of his side of the story like a klaied zero or side where it shows him getting ride of the trash would be fun.

Tldr, just get np2 if you can and only for Damaging servants, support NP levels 🙄 is just a flex, NP5 merlin heals for 4k at NP5 instead of 2k at NP1 , also apparently sabers like me, I got np2 Musashi and Dioscuri on jp
The only support servant I can think of that really benefits from extra lvls is like prince lanling and Tamamo since at np2 lanling gives a 1k dmg cit for 3 turns and Tamamo gets more healing

This actually helped a lot for me.
With the NP chains, I always thought that it just increased the damage they do, with the effects that I saw. And since I rarely do them (since bosses are usually the enemies I can do them with since most other enemies die before I get the chance to), I couldn’t experiment with it at all.
Now that I know, I can think back to a few times where having known this would have been VERY useful in my earlier days. Like having an NP chain with Merlin from my friends’ list being last in the chain for a few times, making his turn heal stack up to THREE times during a really tough boss. That would have been so lovely...!
It’s also interesting how the NP type really plays such a huge factor in just how powerful they really are. Like it would seem at first that the Busters are the weakest, where in truth their natural 50% buff makes up for their base damage, with Quick being just a tad bit stronger than Buster and Arts (outside of Merlin’s Buster buff, of course).
I just wish the game itself actually told you some of this in some way. This is all some incredibly important stuff that can help some new comers! I’ve been playing the game for almost a year and a half and even I didn’t know most of this!
I guess they aren’t called the Gurus for nothing! :p
Small side note: An NP chain with Merlin would not affect the heal, but rather the crit star per turn effect, since that's the Overcharge effect. To raise the heal, you would need to raise his NP level (by getting more copies).
DaringDan yeah, I realized that earlier today while I was thinking about it. I was playing the game and had that occur to me, so I checked one of my friends’ Merlins, and saw the Crit Stars were with overcharge.
My mistake, but it’s still good to know how it actually is used.
@@KHMDarkness On an unrelated side note: try using a limit broken Prisma Cosmos on Merlin. Without a single face card, he will be gaining 15% NP per turn. Combined with another 5% per turn for 5 turns from the NP, you have 100% NP charge in 5 turns without using a face card~
DaringDan That is always a lovely combination, though I can’t really do it since I don’t have a Merlin. Some of the people on my friends list does, but they usually equip either the Chaldea Lunchtime on them (extra bond points is always nice, even though others have it on their Waver) or a CE that focuses on Star generation.
The only Servants I have that could really use it the most would be Mash (defense in defense is awesome!) and Lily Medea, who is a decent replacement for Merlin in a pinch.
Hopefully I’ll be able to get Merlin on his next banner. It’d be nice to not have to rely on someone else’s and hope they have a CE on it that could help me in something like a tough boss battle.
so basically the more the charge, the more the damage the NP may give to enemies (ofcourse it may depend on the servant though)
i kinda thought it depends on the level of the servant like for example, my lv.70 chacha does like 3000-5000 damage in normal moves and does 20000 damage in her NP (at 100% charge)
The NP's base effect (damage, heal, ect) is based on NP Level. In Chacha's case, it's her damage going for 300/400/450/475/500% from NP1 to NP5 respectively.
The Overcharge effect is based on the percentage you get (100/200/300%) in addition to the other effects (OC level up from Devilish Bodhisattva, or from an NP chain). In Chacha's case, it's the amount of burn damage at 500/1000/1500/2000/2500 per turn for 5 turns depending on Overcharge level (OC1 to OC5 respectively).
Instead of rolling for Skadi, I'm gonna try getting MHX alter from the lucky bag banners that'll be released. Mhx Alter was my first ever five star. And I accidentally deleted my old account. In my NEW one I have mhx. Kinda ironic, but I have to see her again.

I just realized it's theoretically possible to get a servant to 700% charge... Now imagine the damage of a perfectly executed double merlin 700% gilgamesh np. How much damage would that do to an enemy? For research purposes...
While theoretically possible, the NP Overcharge effect stop at OC5 (or 500% overcharge). Anything beyond that is ignored.
As for your question, I will assume the ideal conditions for a turn 1 NP chain:
- Gilgamesh fully leveled at NP2 (since he's a 5 star) with a max level Devilish Bodhisattva CE, max Fou'd (Gold Fou included) and 10/10/10 skills
- 2 Merlins with all skills at 10, with KScopes for a quick NP
- A Servant enemy (neutral in Class Advantage, but also receiving the Enuma Elish trait)
Based on these considerations, and if I did my math right ( imgur.com/1IiWeC1 ), he should deal between 132245 and 161594 damage on his NP.

So, say i have servant A at NP 2
Their skill is buster up 10% at np1 and 20% at np2
Does this mean if i shoot the NP at 100% charge, i got the 20% buff already, or do i still need to reach 200% charge to gain the 20% buff ?
There is two ways an effect can increase on an NP, either it is listed as [Lv. X] or . Anything with the former, will increase solely from higher NP levels and nothing else, while the latter type will only go up when you 200-500% charge(or equivalent Overcharge increases). Most NPs that give a 10% buster buff that is indicated to increase will do so with Overcharge and be marked as such. (one of the rare NPs that bucks the trend is Euryale, whose Damage is not going up with NP level at all, rather her Super Effective Modifier against Males does, which is usually restricted to Overcharge)
Wow, never knew that Quick NPs dealt the most damage. A bit confused as to why buster’s damage without Merlin is so low though.. why was quick’s damage scaled so high in the first place? It already gives more stars and NP gauge from using an NP compared to buster, so why more damage too lmao?
More than likely, Quick NP Damage is scaled so high because you can't crit on NPs. Quick does innately low damage and depends on high hit counts and crits to deal damage. Where Buster is ALL about the damage. So starting them off high when they already do damage, it'd be a no contest. However, buster damage is TOO low, I think. It's why certain Servants get NP damage up, raising that scale to be more in line with others.
Chaldea Gurus Ah makes sense. Yeah I would think that Buster should at least be higher than Arts? Seemed weird that they had the same damage output too lol. Also still think they could have accounted for the damage multiplier (0.8) of quick and made it so it did less but not too little damage compared to buster and arts...
When you look at the actual effective damage of NPs, you'll notice that Buster tends to be among the highest in practice, alongside Quick.
Buster Servants are given fantastic skills/buffs to compensate for their low NP gen (including NP battery in many cases), and Merlin on top of multiplying Buster attacks by 1.5 is arguably the best healer in the game.
Quick, by contrast, only gets Evade instead of Invincibility from their support Caster, and no heals.

I have a question . Does the first card type (either normal or np card) affect the np dmg ? For example will using a quick/arts card or np card before using a buster np ,will it decrease dmg ? Same case for the reverse , will buster cards increase other card types np dmg if i use em first ?
It does not.
NP damage is unaffected by card order... and Buster chains.
An NP will not do any more damage if it's placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, if the first card is Buster, or if all the cards are Buster.

love the video.. tho i personally wish the game wasnt so money hungry. kinda wish they changed how their gacha system works (even tho they have GSSR i wish they added in a pity system to help with people who want to get 1 coppy or even just to whale for multiple np levels - ive came very close to quitting fgo due to spending alot of money to not get anything -)
Well the game is still friendly overall. St tickets get you some good stuff every year and ssr on jp shows they are being More generous as time goes on. Na even gave us an extra one.
Overall even the 3 stars are able to help gameplay while some of the new units have to be nerfed in ways to not be broken like some year/part one units who are 3 star and still powerful.

@@ahrivixen5594 well all gacha games are like that in a way some better or worse.
But fgo all units are special and useful compared to gacha games so it balanced out overall. But i understand the pain of not getting someone you want. I saved for 2 years Merlin jalter. Didn't get either. Got tamano and Vlad instead so arts all the way. Overall the 3 stars are sometimes better than 5 stars like David to Tristan. Eryale to Orion. Ushi to Marie and Anne while the welfares are super good at times like Chloe kintoki and bb in kits.
Meanwhile I saved 1k quarts for ereshkigal and got her on a multi so luck is always subjective overall. Just gssr is worth it I have seen for a ssr gurenteed of any class

ahri vixen lots of Gatcha requries you to roll for the same units just different type wheras as each servant with their different class aren’t the same and has a unique personality
@@davidt6814 yeah fgo would say has a giant list of characters all unique in Sprite and kit. Even Gilles saber who looks like a npc is still funny at times with the Jeanne monthly magazine
Skadi is not really worth it unless you have the stuff for her set up which is expensive af when compare to Tamamo, Waver and Merlin
luckily i have all of the stuff needed for her set up so gonna roll for her
Skadi is actually worth it as a Quick Performance support. If, however, you will only be using her for the hype of NP looping, then I would question your choice. But as a support for Quick Servants, she does an amazing job: Quick Performance up by 50% and Quick crit damage up by 100% for 3 turns, a 3 turn defense down (which works just like a 30% charisma) and crit chance down by 30%, and a targetable 50% NP charge skill. Her NP doesn't look great at first, but it also offers a party-wide crit damage up (which works really well for the Quick cards that generate the stars required to crit), a 1 time proc evade that lasts 3 turns, and a 3 turn damage reduction going from 500 to 1500 based on Overcharge (the same values as Xuanzang's self taunt skill, which is a 1 turn skill). So yeah, if you see her only for the ridiculously expensive NP looping meme, then she's not worth. However, for any Quick Servant, she definitely is.

@@hikarihakai1285 From the way you mentioned having what you need to "set her up", I assumed you were talking about Quick NP Looping rather than her general use, which is quite remarkable. That was my mistake.
@@daringdan7406 what i mean when i talk about it is that if people think you could just have a Quick servant and 3 turn right away then that a big mistake
you have to have the right servant, CE and Mystic Code in alot of case which is why people should not just think you could 3 turn farming if you have her
it easier for Single Target servant use for CQ though since some have very high NP Gain like Rider Kintoki, Atalanta Alter and MHX Alter

At face value (as in the values on the wiki), yes. However, their NP damage averages out when you consider the 1.5x damage modifier on Buster cards.
DaringDan it really confuses me tbh, i thought buster NP are strong because buster cards are the one that deals damage
@@hashimalz While Buster cards do deal the most damage with their 1.5 multiplier, the NPs have been more or less evened out. This is why Buster NPs have such low NP damage modifiers compared to Arts or Quick. But at the end of the day, they even out.

@@hashimalz Buster Servants will still deal the most damage overall. Quick just edges out on NPs. Merlin is a solid support. Skadi is essentially Merlin for Quick. But that does not devalue Buster.
