I have tried quite a few monopods for video. My whole issue with most of them is that they fold down to long or are cumbersome and heavy.
I found the most simple sirui monopod, it's super short at 42cm, so will fit inside any generic backpack (so not obvious you are about to film) and is pretty simple and light. It also extends to 160 cm. Of course, it has more sections and the screw releases, which I also Don't like. But for my run and gun hiking style, it beats most hands down!

I have a problem with the lock buttons of the iron legs at the bottom. When I press the button, it stays inside and the legs doesnt lock and floats away. I think the reason is that the coils inside do not work.

They also make a Flip Lock version.

Yeah I also have the flip lock version, it also has a different mechanism on the tripod part on the "legs" (Sirui P-424FL)

Just a note. When using this monopod in an actual photo or video shooting you hold it in a vertical position and usually you keep one hand close to the camera, on the side that has no knobs. With the other hand you unlock the knobs by holding them between the thumb and the index. Doing this there is no chance to unlock two knobs in the same time. At least this is my experience, and I’m using a Sirui monopod since 2018.

I just bought a latching one for the reasons you mention.

I've been using this exact model for over six years now - mostly pro filming, plus some photography. It's amazing. The bottom rubber end doesn't stick out too much, I haven't changed anything, so not sure why you had that issue. It also just fits my suitcase for travelling. Top product!

Right pronunciation. Just heard an Australian born Chinese photographer pronounce it.
I’ve used one for years. Quality product like the other Sirui products., ballheads, tripods & today’s purchase a Sirui gimbal. Only gripe I have is the price these days. They used to be cheaper but now people have discovered the brand & they’re charging accordingly. I haven’t had your experience when extending it and the feet are fine. Only had one screw come loose but I replaced it with one I had around the house.

You have to use this monopod to appreciate just how brilliant it really is.

Just tighten those leg screws to take the slop off and it actually accomodates the rubber on the bottom.

Thanks for this review - based onm what I've seen here, I wouldn't buy this, and I also see it's discontinued. Have they fixed any of the issues in the newer models?

Excellent review! I wish more people knew how to actually review effectively and not just read what the manufacturer stated in specs. Me being a farmer that deals with old machinery, the slap in that bottom piece is something I just can't get past. I came looking for a monopod to put my RS3 on for travel overseas (I know that's not what they are for but whatevs lol) . Any thoughts on a product that I could get away with doing that?

I never have a prblem with the locking mechanism, To be honest I think you are making an issue of something that doesnt exist. Very pedandtic. Sorry, you are out of order with this gripe.
BTW It is a brilliant, well designed piece of kit.
