I know this is a year old, but is still perfect for the XTS5000! Reminds me of a previous life where I was a 911 dispatcher (16 years) and being a ham I also helped the radio techs. When we moved to a trunked system I programmed a couple hundred mobile units by hand with the DOS based CPS. This windows based CPS sure beat navigating the crazy menu system in that old CPS! Great job simplifying the process!
Thank you I greatly appreciate your kind words. That was my goal is to make it as simple as possible and pass the knowledge along. I know it's cliche but knowledge is truly power. Thank you for watching.
Great video! Just picked up an XTS 5000 and set it up following these instructions and it is working perfectly. So much better than a scanner. I do have one question though. I have it set up on the Simulcast site which broadcasts most of the traffic I want to hear. However, there is a city on the edge of the county that does not appear to broadcast through the Simulcast. Instead there is a site located in that city which seems to carry almost all of their traffic. My question is, how should I handle this in my programming? Do I create another trunking personality?
Great video! Especially the information of preventing the radio from sending information to system, and not transmitting. I have a question, can you make a video or explain how to set up the scan on/off, and channel select with knob etc... Thanks again!
@@BlackburnInTech the only question I would like to know is if I have a code plug from one of my old xts2500 800 MHz radios in trunking non-affiliate scanning format I was wondering if I can take that file and drag and drop it to the new xts2500 I don't know if that's possible or not to basically import the old file to the new radio that's already setup for non-affiliate scanning from a friend of mine who created the file on my behalf since he knew what he was doing so all I would have to basically do is write to the radio if I can do that I don't know if it will brick it
Do you know what feature set or flashcode you started with? When I started I had 240 channels deleted all fpp except for the 1 that you cannot was left with 17 conventional personalitys ! Wanted to start with whatever codeplug you had so I don’t mess anything up. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
Do you have any tutorials on programming a XTL for non aff scanning? I'm stumped and sure it's a simple step I am missing.. but then again I could be totally wrong.
Unfortunately I haven't. I personally don't have an xdl radio to experiment with and try and get it programmed. More than likely it is something simple.
All depends on the feature set on the radio. I have one that will not let me set it. Also I'm not familiar with that radio The only one I've used is XDS 5000s. Thanks for watching be sure to like and subscribe
Under the system you had the control channels. If you're using radio reference they are the ones that are in red just do not add the c after them. It will tell it what other frequencies to use. Thanks for watching and be sure to like and subscribe.

If it is a p25 programming just in the VHF spectrum. It will be the same principle just instead of putting the 800 megahertz frequencies tab you'll click on the VHF tab and put in the receive frequencies. To the best of my knowledge. Unfortunately there is no VHF p25 in the area that I'm in to test and verify it works that way though. Thanks for watching
Can you do a video on how to add a channel from start to finish. I have watched both your videos and im losing something in the translation or gap or your screen. Im a retired ff/medic but trying to lean the radio system and how it worked, Thanks
I am trying to do this with an xts 5000, but I keep getting an "invalid" when trying to save and write to the radio. I am modifying the file from the radio so CPS will quit being unhappy with the serial number not matching issue. I have the file from our dept radios as well.
I have all the channels set up. How can I use this to program a different radio. Can I change the serial number in the program to reflect a different radio. Can I duplicate the frequencies to program the radio I just bought? Can I wipe the new radio clean. Banging my head on the desk. I have 4 XTL2500's 2 Astros and 2 XTS 5000 I don't want to keep putting in frequency's for each radio
i'm having a really hard time getting everything set up perfectly, i am able to receive some channels but i don't think my scan list is changing when i change the channel knob. everything is mapped correctly so personalities 1 mapped to 1 and scan list 1 to those personalities. i cant figure this out
Can you do one for programming 700 mhz p25? Conventional. I’m pretty well versed in Motorola but for some reason I keep getting invalid fields that don’t tell you why they’re invalid. Tried radio reference but got the “just buy a scanner” treatment.
I did this but the radio lags and misses calls. I've tried programming it many different ways but it still misses calls. I'm disappointed in using an XTS as a scanner.
One area that I would check would be to make sure you do not have too many frequencies in the system area. Also depending on how far you are from the transmitter you might need an external antenna
I noticed they took the site down I'm checking to see if I still have a copy of it laying around. If anyone does feel free to message maybe we can make it happen for everyone else
I am not sure I haven't found a use case for it here. If you do try and set it up be sure to post in the comments I'm pretty sure other people would like to know that answer as well. Thanks for watching be sure to like and subscribe
On the system you would need to enable sites and then put the site IDs associated. When you're entering the frequencies you would need to map it to what site the frequency is associated with as well.

So the CPS has to have the system key FIRST before I’m able to enter talkgroups?
