As a former rail engineer I had to take the train to Battambang. Was it worth it? I guess so. It was slower than the bus, but you got a chance to see the real countryside, which is nice. The price is almost a joke, at 8 dollars. The trip takes more or less 6 hours. If you are going to take this train, bring snacks, as the stop at Pursat has local street food only (think food safety) and the stop is very short. Bring EAR PLUGS! The train engineer basically lays on the train whistle/horn for about 75% of the trip. It can get bothersome. I did it, and unless I am taking someone for the experience, will never voluntarily use that wonderful relic train again.
