That's awesome. I've often thought about trying to figure out how to get into RV transport. I have a remote job, so I can work from anywhere, and it would be a neat way to travel and make money on the side. I just have no idea how to go about getting started. Especially being based in Canada. Great stuff! Looking forward to more videos!
Thanks for the comment! Yeah I’m Not sure how that would work if you’re a Canadian citizen. But there must be transport companies in Canada or perhaps some of the US based companies will hire Canadians. Might be worth a google search!
If you find a company you'd like to drive for you can get in contact with their recruitment office. The recruiter will walk you through the process to get setup.
@@adammiller8533you can google “Rv transport jobs” and some should come up. The big companies up there are Wave Express, Indiana Transport, and Horizon.
I’ve been driving for Horizon Transport 3 1/2 years. They are a great company and yes there’s a lot to learn as far as becoming efficient and profitable. It’s hard to get it all down the first time but after six months I had it pretty much figured out. Yes I do drive to 7.3 gas Godzilla on a 2020 F350. One thing I will say as far as RV transport companies is that you are a contractor and like all contractors and all industries we’re supposed to come to this game knowing what to do so there is a lot that they don’t tell you upfront and everything you should know. Obviously I didn’t know alot and that was thr learning curve I had to go through.
Yes you do. Unladen liability insurance and damage insurance for your vehicle. That’s on top of the DOT insurance that your carrier will have when you’re running under their numbers.
I wanted to get into this but the insurance not to mention health insurance and retirement and the end of year taxes i just couldnt get past that buddy of mine did it and loat a motor within a year and warranty wouldnt cover it now hes stuck with a 90k loan lol it just seems to risky to me
Exactly! When you do all the math out it doesn’t make sense, unless you have extra income coming from somewhere else. I’ll be doing a more in depth video soon
Just like anything else, the net profits are at the top. By the time everyone's paws have hit the contract pay, you're left with table scraps. Keep in mind, NET. Gross figures always sound good. Diesel is the only sensible work poweplant. I recently first experienced diesel ownership after retirement. Two things in life I regret. Not going military, and not owning diesels. My one ton powerstroke is the best vehicle I've ever owned. Fuel efficient and the consummate workhorse, ironically that doesn't even have to work. Looking back at working a gas engine is just plain dumb by comparison. Dumb! Now at 524,000 mi, its time for injectors. I'm forced to my backup gasoline rigs. And I hate them now. Gas is just plain dumb!
Have you been pulled into a DOT inspection yet? You sleeping in the truck opens up a whole bunch of regulations you have to follow. Don't ever admit to sleeping in your truck and don't leave your bedding out for a DOT inspection to inadvertently see.
Thanks for the comment. Have not got an inspection yet. Is that a problem even if I log off duty and not sleeper berth? I sleep in the bed of my truck and have window covers. There is no evidence in my cab of overnight sleeping in the truck so it would be very hard to tell.
@@powerstrokemaintenanceI looked into RV transport a couple years ago and investigated sleeping in the back seat, and the customization required to make that legal was way too expensive. I didn't look into sleeping in the bed, I was going to haul 5th wheels. Back then DOT regs on where and how you can sleep were strictly enforced and the fines were crazy if you got it wrong.
Bring it on, I am interested in seeing how it all works out for you.
Thanks for watching!
Thx for the explanation. Yes, tie in the transport life with Mx on the rig. Enjoying the content.
Thanks Paul! Will do!

So how does one get started with RV Transport?

Do you need commercial insurance for hauling RVS? If so what kind?
Yes you do. Unladen liability insurance and damage insurance for your vehicle. That’s on top of the DOT insurance that your carrier will have when you’re running under their numbers.
More RV transport details please.
Can you provide the transport company name, I would like to look into doing towing. THANKS!
Wave Express or Horizon Transport
Yes I would love to see you install the HitchHiker Camper & how that would work out for you!
Video forthcoming!
Is it common for individuals to pay full amount to transport a camper state to state ?
No, I just transport them from the factories to the dealers
I really want to get into the RV hauling industry. Is it profitable?
Not really haha not unless you own a truck outright and do your own maintenance
hows the RV transport industry right now? I was thinking about getting into it. would love to see the country.
It's busy right now but I wouldn't do it unless you own a truck outright
@@powerstrokemaintenance is it the rates being low or the fuel being high?
Both! It’s tough to make any sort of profit, especially if you’re setting aside money for taxes

I’m afraid I do not. You may be able to find an independent driver who will do it for you

No way! I probably saw you on the hill in October 😂

@thomabb interesting. It doesn’t seem to be a huge issue these days but perhaps DOT adjusted their interpretation of the law to be more lenient
