    Hi Becky, I remember using Derwent 60 years ago, and I always enjoyed using them, It's amazing how many colours they have now, I haven't done any drawing or colouring in for many years, always enjoy watching you, and seeing how many things have changed over the years, have a great day hugs Sarah, 🥰❣️

      Derwent has really come a long way over the years, and they have so many different sets. It is great to see a company still going strong, like they are! The coloured pencil industry has just gone crazy in the last few years; so many new companies and sets popping up, it's hard to keep up with them all, haha! And thank you! ❤

    It seems like there are so many more options than thirty or even twenty years ago. In the '90s, I used Prismacolor pencils which were vibrant but expensive. Now, hardly anyone talks about them and there are dozens of other sets from various brands. Thankfully, you're here to clear the confusion!

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The coloured pencil sector has just exploded in the last couple of years especially! I have numerous other sets queued up to review as well, lol! I should actually also review the Prismacolors. Future Becky can deal with that, ha!

      There are plenty of videos focusing on prismacolor pencils and content creators/artists who mainly use them.
      Prismacolor are still highly sought after in other countries, despite how expensive they can be. Unfortunately their quality has decreased since the 90’s.

    I have tried both colorsoft and procolor 12 tins and I prefer the colorsoft. They are more easy to use and have a higher lightfast rating over all. They do remind me of the prismacolors to use. I have a mars staedtler 180 crank sharpener for all my pencils and they can handle the colorsft and prismacolor no problem, touch wood.lol. But thanks to your video on derwent lightfast I have now purchased a 72 set and I love them so I will not be buying any big sets of colorsoft I may cherry pick a few colors. Thanks again Becky another great video always a pleasure to watch.:) OMG 3k Congrats.

      Pencils are so incredibly slow when doing realistic drawings! I enjoy using them in colouring books too, which is a bit faster. But I thought I would try and draw something this time with these ones. 😄

    Congrats on 3k subscribers! That's amazing!
    I only have a few pencils of the Colorsoft and haven't used them for years but I remember that I wasn't that keen on them. The Procolours are also not my cup of tea. Some people love them but they feel to me like they are not very pigmented.That's not true, only my feeling. I like the Lightfast, Luminance and Polychromos.
    But to be honest I haven't worked in CP for almost 2 years. I used to do a lot of pet portraits, sitting there for 20, 30 hours. Now I rather use pastel pencils, they are easier to blend and quicker to work with.

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! It was nice to wake up to that milestone this morning. 😊 I am still somewhat tempted to get the Procolours but it is more "For The Channel" than actually needing them, lol. The Lightfast are vastly superior! ❤️💜 I can't be sitting for 20-30 hours on anything; I have not the patience for it. 😱😂

  • @NaomiCoutureArt
    @NaomiCoutureArt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Congrats on 3K!!! So exciting ❤️ I have never tried the color soft pencils before, I have heard they are even softer then prisma ones. I really like how your kingfisher came out but I;m like you where if I do the main subject first I rush and other elements to get it done because I don't like doing them as much lol.

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I have been watching my counter for days! 😂 Haha yeah I tend to get impatient, especially with coloured pencils because they take so long, lol. But I still enjoy using them...I might need to do a direct comparison of softness between the Coloursofts and Prismacolors because I feel like Prisma might be softer again but I honestly can't remember. They do feel quite different from each other though.

    In terms of feel (softness, thickness), how similar are these to the Drawing pencil line? I love the Drawing set and they are fairly soft, but was wondering how Colorsofy compares.

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kind of similar but the Drawing pencils are quite unique and feel a bit more pastel-like when compared with the Coloursofts.

  • @AlexisCassandraArt
    @AlexisCassandraArt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    First of all, congrats on 3k!!❤️❤️ that’s so exciting and I’ve seen your channel grow so much in the time we’ve known each other on TH-cam! Second of all, I’ve only tried a few individual pencils from this set and I felt like maybe they were too soft and didn’t have enough “traction” if you will? They definitely glide over the paper but maybe too much. Then again, I’m not a fan of ultra soft pencils like these and prismacolors, so I’m biased. The color range looks nice and bright though and maybe it’s a good palette for coloring books! It also seemed to be a good palette for the kingfisher since its so bright, but yes I have qualms with Indigo to begin with as you might remember (grrrrrr) and that indigo is too vibrant and not deep enough! I definitely would choose them over the procolours. Those were hard with a capital H!

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! It's fun watching our channels grow (you have done amazingly well with subscribers!) and I hope we both manage to keep going with it next year too! The indigo is definitely too bright and nowhere near dark enough, and I agree with the "traction" thing. Great word to describe it, by the way! I put the Coloursofts into the "I like them well enough but they're not my absolute favourites" category, lol.

  • @Elvraie
    @Elvraie 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello Becky, I really like the coloursoft. I don't have a set, but a few colours and found them really soft and vibrant. I have one Procolour pencil and find it 'harder' than the Polychromos and I'm not keen on it. Lovely drawing, by the way. See you, Valerie

    I love the Colorsoft pencils...they were some of my first "professional" colored pencils and I really like them. Also I bought a set of the Procolor Pencils and in my opinion they are horrible! The Procolor pencils are so hard and you really have to push hard to get a good color pay off...they are so hard and cheap that when coloring with them they actually squeak when going back and forth on the page, like smooth hard plastic...So yea in my opinion I dont think anyone should spend their money on the Procolors...Im sorry to sound harsh and cold but that is my opinion, i dont mean to offend anyone and I appreciate and understand all opinions and like and dislikes. These pencils are perfectly acceptable, as are any of the other Derwent pencils of professional grade, for doing pro artwork. If you want lightfast artwork, then you use Lightfast pencils. For anything else that you might sell or hang, just create your work and then scan it to make a print. Though, if you want to have a lightfast work in these pencils, just use those lightfast colors. I sometimes think that too much is made of lightfastness when it comes to creating an artwork. It all depends on how you want the final piece to be represented and what you want to do with it.

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes that's very true. I don't worry about lightfastness very much, I just include these observations in my videos so that people can make up their own minds as to whether the product might be suitable for their type of art. 😊
