Ahhhh, takes me back to the 70's. I had a LH SLR Torana, but it had a 308 with Auto ( Trimatic, but I changed it to a Turbo 400) Same colour as yours, though no flares. Main thing I really liked about them was their handling. Even at 200 KPH, it held the road really well. And I enjoyed the acceleration due to it's light weight. And in 1983 I sold it to a mate for $7K and bought a 77 HZ Sandman Panel Van for $8K. I wish I had either these days.

And at Barbagello Raceway, Western Australia, I was quicker in a stock car. You could make a 4.2 quick, but better off getting the 5.0 or bigger. Cheers

@@farmerman7947 all GM cars are built to be totally safe going around corners and in the wet.
It’s impossible for them to be insane cars.
The gears cause the car to drop revs to a low level which PREVENTS ALL WHEEL SPIN from happening.
Most torana owners WANT the Ford driving experience which is high revs and throttle steering.
It’s actually VERY boring driving a torana. Going round corners at half throttle knowing that the engine revs are too low to spin the tyres exiting corners.on the straight, you’re waiting for the motor to pull the car past the other drivers.
It’s NOT intuitive to drive a torana and that’s why most toranas have had their engines ripped out.

@@farmerman7947 do you realise GM wanted the 2020 corvette to be sold In Australia but they told Holden what price it was to be sold at and Holden told them to go shove it, and so GM got rid of Holden.
Australians sabotage the lives of Australians. That’s what living on an island does to you.
Only ford has sold their mustle car here.
But, there’s nothing wrong with that cause the USA is full of big freeways and Australia isn’t. We don’t need the freeway car called nova, cause Australians only drive to shops and back home. The Australian Holden and ford was perfect for the job.
But thank god there was always a slight variation on the USA model cause the world got more choice.
The car the torana was designed from is TERRIBLE.
As a designer, you want more jobs! You want to improve the concept.
Unfortunately Australians have gone mad, selling fewer items to fewer people. Going insane on an island is completely normal.

Add on gauge drilled into the dash as well. That carburettor is WAY TOO rich. Being strangled by the driver.
The motor has NEVER BEEN TUNED from factory.
Turn the power down and it’ll come alive!
It turns out after all these years GM was right and all the guys who went for the mods were idiots.
The smaller V8 was perfect for the street race. The LH 6 cylinder was perfect for every day sports racing and CRUISING on freeway. It travels 4 times further than the V8 models.
The car always stays in third gear which makes it THE BEST DRIVING EXPERIENCE. It was what ford has built the whole mustang race car around. THE THROTTLE DRIVING EXPERIENCE.

@@dreyn7780 I have seen on here so many LJ,s or LH,s think one LH had a big block V8?? Why does anyone feel they need that much???? You could not use it the street! The A9X,s and SLR5000,s were good looking cars and plenty quick enough! Remember that the LJ Torana was only a four cylinder Viva originally so with a triple carb six in there, well it was quick enough for Brocky.
These days so many LS swaps are around even the yanks are sick of it now. 308 or injected 304 for the LH, for the LJ i think the red six is not too bad, seen a 202 LJ do the 1/4 mile in just under 10sec! Unyet ''turbo taxi'' barely manages 11,s!! From what i have heard the early Mustangs are a dog to drive, but they look soooo good!

      @@barryphillips7327 yeah, I agree.
Early mustangs had power steering and my cousin had 1. He thought it seemed loose to steer the car. He also softened the suspension.
But that all plays into the ford design.
Softening the suspension is a time delay effect for tyre traction.
The Mercedes TH-cam instructional videos teach us, all tyres are sliding during cornering.
A single carburettor Holden 6 just needed a radius ground on the inside of the manifold at the 90 degree bend to solve all its air flow problems.
Once that sharp edge is rounded, all 6 cylinders get perfect air flow and metering of fuel.
The outside 4 cylinders normally get 8% air and fuel, but after the radius is installed by grinding, air and fuel flow increase to 100%.
But that tells you the big motor 173 was depowered by the manufacturer for fast cornering at 30km/s per hour. So it behaved similar to the smaller, older torana.

@@barryphillips7327 the V8 is just a 4 cranks motor, the same as a 4 cylinder motor. It just has an assisting motor attached on the side.
All these Holden guys are just taking out everything Holden put in to the car. All of the BETTER HANDLING, BETTER ROAD FEEL, ADJILE PERFORMANCE, ALIVE STEERING, etc... is all being destroyed by owners.
A9X and SLR 5000 are tuned for higher speed performance.
You drive to chadstone shopping centre slightly faster With dead steering performance and burn more fuel as a result.
Unfortunately we can’t drive them on a race track cause they’re closed all the time.

When you’ve only got a dual motor /4 cylinder car, it consumes lots of fuel and you don’t travel very far. They needed the spare motor assist cause there was a big mountain to drive up which is the perfect motor for an hour of going round and round in circles. The tank was very popular back in the day but now guys are realising GM was right all along NOT to put it on the cars for street driving.
What came out of the factory were the perfect cars.

@@bloody_rc2318 yuck! GM was right to reduce the motor cause racing is all about small motors and high revs with lots of explosions in 1 metre of travel.
Once you install a big motor, your still limited by gearing.
All the gears must be rebuilt and then you kill the brakes and engine braking is dead.
Stage 2 cam doesn’t help you at all. Cause the car is over engineered. They must be depowered, to get faster lap times.
Engine torque settings are for corner enter speeds.
If you want to exit corners faster you ADD MORE EXPLOSIONS.
The middle of a straight road isn’t where racing cars win races.
Small wheels which all toranas have is all about corners enhanced steering feedback.
Why design for enhanced road feedback and then kill it with a big motor?
The street car doesn’t have swaybars so it corners faster and in a smaller Turning circle.

@@dreyn7780 have you ever owned a Torana probably not you don't slam Toranas onto a race track they are show cars not cars you put on a NASCAR track or bulshit like that the Torana that we spent $70,000 on repairing from scratch it was a lot more faster then the original motors in it it had sport braking as well but everything you said he's like you don't understand the way Toranas are like at the moment we are doing up a special HR 2 speed power guide 6 cylinder 186 and if you think that you know more about Toranas you can contact me on Instagram
@old_hr I would happily discuss that all the things you said are incorrect

  • @dreyn7780
    @dreyn7780 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

When in mid corner, the Holden /chev must be set at MID throttle. The gearing will cause the engine to be LOW in revs. All of the takeoff power comes from the engine building up revs.
The motor is over engineered and needs to have its extra power tamed. 4 extra explosions causes wheel spin exiting corners. The heavier motor and more power V8 sends the car off the road entering corners.
They must have restricted exhaust to have a tiny amount of engine braking to stop running off the road entering corners.
If you’re changing gears mid revs, you need another brand of car. And that’s Dodge Charger or Plymouth cuda.
Ford is high revs and throttle steering.
GM wide pistons and small cranks ruin your driving technique.
    You’re suited to mopar.
