Really helpful vid, thank you! I own basically all the english shogi books that I want already, so the next step for me is japanese books I suppose. Again super well made and clearly explained, really enjoying your channel thus far.
Hell, I've been under the process of Google translating the only book I could find in my area into individual sticky notes per page on brief summaries of what's shown
good vid yeah there are no problems with understanding exercise books sadly the situation is very different with joseki books :( since a lot of the time the comments will have a huge impact, without them you won't know if sente or got is better or if it's an even position, difficult to play for one side, easier to play for another etc so if you want to learn josekis from japanese books you will have to follow them with an engine or maybe self analysis if you're really good at it but even then it won't be as good as the book itself (since you will lose all the author's personal opinions on the positions)
The title is misleading. It should be: Basic Japanese you need in order to read Shogi notation. It is not possible to read and understand Shogi books without knowledge of Japanese.

Great video as always! :)
This is an amazing resource. I have been figuring them out and the using a shogi engine to see if I was correct which is a pain.
