Overall, Unity. I love rogue for the fact that not only do you get a ton of weapons, but the extra challenge of being hunted by assassins both in free-roam and the story makes it so fun.
The French Revolution is also the PERFECT setting for an AC game. It defines everything that the Brotherhood and Templars would be involved in. Lower class mobbing tyrants. The trailer also showed the true spirit of AC. Assassins hiding amongst the crowd, destroying gates and weakening defenses so the angry mob can take the credit and they can continue to hide in secret and just overall shaping history as it happens from the shadows.
Unity had everything: great characters, good plot ideas, great graphic and gameplay (once you fix the bugs), great city and open world, THE MOST PERFECT TIME PERIOD EVER SEEN FOR AN ASSASSIN’S CREED. How they managed to screw everything up with the most boring, uninspired, and predictable story ever is still an amazement 10 years later. They conpletelly wasted the setting and for what? A love story? This is supposed to be an historical game with sci fi elements. All the historical figures you could have interacted with instead of chasing Elise. All the historical events you could have been part of. Plus they made the ending of Rogue completelly pointless.
i feel like it was also the time when execs started fucking devs over you can tell unity has real effort and soul put into it, ubisoft's devs poured their fucking hearts out to make a game based off their own culture and country, shame that the higher ups forced the game to come out before it could've been fully finished and polished, otherwise we'd just say "unity is the best ac game" rather than "unity is underrated", i wanna live in that world.
@@bit_ronic This is revisionist history. i remember when this game first came out and people were getting sick and tired of the same ole Ubisoft format and Unity was a step backwards gameplay wise compared to Black Flag apart from the backlash against glitches.
I'm not a hater of new games, i played Valhalla and i loved the locations, the exploration and the raids at Wardruna songs. But i tried Mirage at a friend's house and it felt really dull, they failed to bring back the old AC vibe. I may still buy it later on sales for 15€ tho
Bought Mirage on Friday - Played 2 hours and gave up on it - complete rubbish and not worth the money even on a sale. Picked up a physical copy of AC Unity today, runs 60 fps on PS5, plays beautifully and the story is night and day compared to Mirage.
AC unity was hands down a great game even though i came late into the game when i got an xbox one and was blown away by what i saw. The city, the graphics, the parkour, the stealth was next level it was fun going around using the disguise ability in restricted areas to get close to someone or plan out attacks. Some might not agree but i thought the ai was more aware in this game then any other AC game, the way bandits would talk shit to you in public if they spot you made it a good excuse to blend in with the crowd like a true assassin and the Napoleon soldiers would react to you if you were doing something you're not suppose to and come towards you issuing a warning (most of the time in certain games they'd either ignore you or full on kill ya)
AC UNITY was a masterpiece when I played it back in 2020 and I still sing its praises to this day as the best of the 'classic' AC series before they became RPGs. I know that the game's failures were due to a lot of AC fans (including critics and reviewers) bemoaning its incredibly buggy state at launch and its failure to deliver on some very optimistic feature promises, the fact that everyone was exhausted with classic AC's repetitive gameplay loop and the fact that the game didn't run decently and properly on any platform except the most high-spec'ed PCs of the time...but by 2020 nearly all of those issues had been addressed and when I played it, it was a mindblowing experience. But here's something that I think encapsulates why AC UNITY is the last good game of the classic series and also why the design ethos behind AC is why ORIGINS is the only truly decent AC RPG game as well - both games are 'hand-built'. AC UNITY's depiction of Revolutionary Paris is probably the series most deeply and accurately researched setting they've ever made. Having been to Paris and been a student of history, architecture and art history, I can say that the amount of detail and effort the team put into creating Paris of that era has NEVER BEEN SEEN SINCE in an AC game (with the possibly exception of ORIGINS). And you can tell, based on later entries in the series, that Paris in AC UNITY was built by hand, not procedurally generated. The whole city was built on maps from the era, many of the major locations and streets where built using paintings from the era, and the whole game's design ethos, art direction and aesthetic is accurate to French culture, French history, French architecture, French fashion and French aesthetic preferences. Which isn't surprising given Ubisoft's French influences as a corporation, naturally they wanted to do their own culture 'right' and they knocked it out of the park. The hand-crafted, built from scratch, aspect of UNITY is why the parkour is so good, the animations are so seamless, the combat is so smooth and perfect and fun. It's a process of refinement driven by a desire to make something 'the best it could be' for - what arguably must have been - their greatest AC title they were ever likely going to make in a long time. The game's crowd simulation is also jaw-dropping and actually makes the stealth - finally, after all these years - feel powerful and realistic. And yes - you are correct - no AC game since Unity has attempted this kind of crowd simulation. AC SYNDICATE's London was a ghost town, when in reality it should have been TRIPLE the amount of NPCs you see in UNITY. They seemed to have made a half-assed attempt at some crowd density in ORIGINS, but you see that by the time you get to ODYSSEY they dialed it back and when you get to VALHALLA the population of the entirety of England seems to be around 1,000 people. The tiny pathetic crowds in AC games, post UNITY, are the most immersion breaking aspect for me and it SUCKS HARD because the maps keep getting bigger and bigger and they're full of fewer and fewer people and creatures. Story - sure, I reckon that's very subjective. I know some people didn't like the characters. I personally did, but I can't argue that they're objectively great or anything. And UNITY - for me - does fumbled where the RPG games didn't: they put you in the middle of history, but if you don't know the history of the setting then all these ultra-famous figures are just meaningless NPC's. The story of UNITY doesn't do enough, sadly, to really convey the genuinely amazing and terrifying story of the French Revolution which actually would give your missions HUGE consequences historically and profound meaning. I think it drops the ball there - AC fans and gamers were very ready for the Discovery Tour version of AC; but Ubisoft didn't figure that one out for two more games. I would love to see an AC UNITY remaster or even a Discovery Tour of the game because I think it would just round out the whole experience and make AC UNITY that rarest of things: a peak perfection moment of the video game artform; something that will never really age because everything is so carefully hand-crafted, hand-built and refined from a place of genuine passion and love. I mean, shit, when Notre Dame burnt down, they got the lady who built the AC UNITY version of the cathedral to help in its reconstruction. By contrast, SYNDICATE is the perfect example of a game that isn't hand-built and is emblematic of a company's "path of least resistance" in game design (that you see slowly infect ODYSSEY and completely destroy VALHALLA). We know more about 19th Century London than just about any historical city from that period in time. But SYNDICATE's 19th Century London is procedurally generated - it doesn't match ANY known map of the city, the different regions all have similar architecture, there's only about 3 dozen types of buildings and a handful of building textures repeated ad-nauseum (to the point where you actually find identical houses side by side in places). The city is a ghost town, none of the NPCs do any interested animations or interactions, hell characters in the game don't even remove their hats when they go indoors which is a major no-no in the time period. Because the city wasn't designed by hand, it was all procedurally generated and then tweaked where it needed to be in order to fit missions. The game is ugly, it feels like you're playing a game instead of time-travelling to a real place filled with real people, shit they didn't even design the rooftops in such a way that you could parkour properly -- a problem that UNITY saw and overcame by building the rooftops by hand. UNITY and ORIGINS are reflections of a super-ambitious, hand-crafted, history-first, immersion-first, approach to game design that is clearly hard, expensive and time-consuming and something that Ubisoft immediately course-corrects by the next game through automation and doing things half-assed.
You forgot to mention the historical and cultural accuracy! It's a modern AC game that still feels like a well researched love letter to its time period and culture. Maybe even the last one to do so. The RPG AC games are obviously pure fantasy, but even the "real" AC games aren't much different now. Mirage feels more like Aladdin than an actual historical setting.
You forgot that ubisoft also made the prince of Persia. They already made games on Arabic themed games. Also ac1 also Arabic themed, mostly fantasy. So I am not surprised that they made that theme
AC Unity was the last time Ubisoft tried to push the envelope in every department. Real Time Global Illumination, The cloth physics on every character, the Hair Rendering, The facial rigs, the sub surface scattering, They developed a mesh clustering method ( akin to nanite in ue5) to push way more stuff ontu the screen, they had cloud shadows, and volumetrics that were affected by the sunlight, THE EYE TECH THEY DEVELOPED was lost until like last of us 2.. It was one of the PBR games, their animation system was complex and hard to work with but holly crap it paid off, its the perfect blend between ragdoll driven body physics and IK. Its basically the 2nd Crysis and even today can hold up to most games. Small neat titbit to why the game still looks so.. unique and amazing. They did get PBR ( physically based rendering ) online until fairly late into development. Meaning the entire games materials ( normal, colour map, ao = material ) were built on the old pseudo PBR system games used back then, which is why older games had that slight hyperrealisticy crip comic look kinda thing. And AC Unity, is the perfect missing in between step which we lost when we moved everything to PBR. Unity blends the old way of texturing and making materials with PBR in some accidental way and it gives unity that depth and cripsness in the textures.
I've been an AC fan since day 1... unity continues that feeling and movement evolution from the orginal ACs for sure... plus its stunning! I'm also a major nerd of the french revolutionary history. This game was prefection to me.
They recently skipped over this to patch Syndicate up to 60fps on consoles, when that is exactly what we want for this older AC title. Syndicate was 2015, a year after this game. Surely Unity can run between 50 to 60fps on current gen consoles, with VRR to smooth out any framerate drops.
Unity was one of the first game which got released with bugs, and I mean huge ones. Nowadays we got used to it and don't hold so much grunge over bugs (as long as they get fixed), but for some reason Unity still get a bad rep because of that. Maybe because it was the first AAA game like that? Now, the developers really tried to push the engine to the limit with the number of NPCs and it is the reason why they can suddenly appear and disappear in the screen, but that's such a minor flaw when comparing to the legions of little details included in the game. The dialogues were crafted so that you can stay near two speaking NPC and follow the conversation. The conversation will loop but each response is a natural answer of the previous one. For the first time, everything was to scale and so Arno can enter any open building without the need of a transition screen. That renders the parkour much more interesting. Every corner, rooms..etc is filled up with people doing something, it is such full of life. Graphics are amazing: textures feels real, the streets are crooked, Paris alternates rich city houses in this sparkling rococo style with muddy wooden barracks. The costumes are very rich. In addition to points made in this video, the stealth in this game is also incredible once you properly gear up and learn how to use darts, smoke bombs and crackers. The attempt of multiplayer mission was a nice idea, perhaps needing a bit more work. The only real beef I have with it is that the menu was clearly not finished. You cannot start several session, you have to delete all to replay the game, and once you started your session, the only way out is to stop the application. You cannot go back to the main menu. At the end of the day, this is what one would ask of an AC game: entertaining parkour, satisfying combat mechanics, a working stealth, the correct amount of gear and collectables (those RPG ones are good games, but way too much equipment to collect and craft), a storyline with a real interaction with the creed, historical monuments to explore, a few riddles in addition to assassinations. It got all of those points right. It is, I find, the most fluid and enjoyable one of the series.
@@pascalg16 At its release, Unity had cut scenes where characters were not even displayed correctly. skins were missing. Those are the bugs I am talking about. The huge ones. I don't know what you were playing, but the cartridge games I purchased in the 90s and 2000s never had things like that (I mostly played console). Minor stuff where the character was not responded as expected in some exceptional conditions, yes. Some weird behaviors when you went at the very edge or specific spots of the maps, yes. Huge bugs in cut scenes like that, no. The frequency of collision bugs in Unity at first was also way too high. Being released in 2014 as the first AC of the PS4, the expectation was much higher than on previous platforms and it was clear that the job wasn't completed. Because once cartridges or CD were printed on previous systems, developers couldn't fix issues, beta testing was more necessary. Since the time we can connect to internet and download fix patches, some studios seem more inclined to push things onto the market before absolute completion. So, not that there were no bugs before, what I am saying we got use to now is that it is not uncommon to play a AAA game right at its release and experience things which shouldn't have passed the beta testing. Our current expectation is that it is going to be fixed. If that creates a lot of noise by the players who bought the games, it is then forgotten by most once those bugs gets fixed. An example which comes to mind is Cyberpunk 2077. It almost destroyed the studio and got a lot of gruntle at its release, but now that everything is patched, it's almost as if nothing happened and it sold 25 millions units. Unity however still gets remembered and tackled for its bugs. Watching videos from players trying to rank all of the AC, many downgrade Unity because of bugs while in fact, today, it doesn't have much left. I played AC III remastered for PS4, and it was more buggy than Unity on the same console and yet AC III does not have this reputation.
I just started getting into AC and I chose unity as my first game, best decision I’ve ever made coz I love this game so much. I did try origins before starting unity but I didn’t get past the prologue coz it wasn’t what I expected from AC (still a good rpg game if you’re looking for those). Rn I’m playing through Mirage and I’m enjoying it but not as much as I did Unity.
Black Flag has cool stealth with many options, very easy combat, and a beautiful open world. But it also probably has the most mature story in the franchise.
@@Final_SC I finished unity a few weeks ago and preferred it even more than BF. Even though the story wasn’t as good (still a great story tho imo) it’s gameplay is 10x better. Ac has always been the type of game where I listen to music while playing so all the dialogue and stuff I miss anyways. Hope you enjoy it
This game is a masterpiece, the most beautiful assassins creed in every aspect, im close to platinum it because im addicted to this game. I've played all the assassins creed games, but this is my favourite one, and Assassins creed II, Black Flag and Origins in the second place. Great video, I agree with you in all. Let's hope Assassins Creed Red (Japan) will be on another level and a truly next gen game🌠🎮💪
2014 was a weird year for new games in general, but for many people it had a lot of bugs, but none that really bothered me. They fixed a lot of the bugs so the game has become a lot better, but back then it might have been too late and people had kinda given up on it. For me unity is the best game to roam and run around in. It has the best city landscape, there's a lot of life in it (npc activities, origins and especially oddesy feel dead in comparison) and I enjoy the side quests (especially the murder mysteries and the puzzles). Since I've started replaying the game I have also appreciated and enjoyed the main story, which I didn't really try to understand the first time I played it, but back then I didn't find the villains to be especially memorable. (I never played the co-op quests much because I play on ps4, so I don't have much opinion on those), People also like to complain that Arno was supposed to be the "next ezio", which I don't really think applies. Ezio is almost the perfect character, and his mistakes never have consequences, and if they do, someone else seems to be at fault. Arno has very many flaws; brash, a little arrogant, puts his personal mission over that of the brotherhood, and his actions get him expelled from the brotherhood. After the main game he kinda becomes a grumpy, lone wolf. He is his own character. I think many peoples dislike of him is because they wanted another ezio, but he didn't become the next ezio in spite of them having similarities in their origin. All in all it's actually my favourite ac game to play, especially now since they fixed the bugs. Because of the bad press back in 2014 its probably the most underrated game in the entire series.
Just played this for the first time and beat it today. Overall, I would give it either a 6 or 7. Above average because I felt like they did do some good improvements compared to Blag Flag to things like combat, graphics, and the parkour. The menus and customization all work great (except the map, TOO many things on there with no prioritization shown). BUT I was finding it frustrating that whenever I wanted to actually go fully stealth through a mission, it's just too difficult because there's always like 40 guards on your way and they spot you from a mile away. There's not enough mechanics to hide properly, the disguise skill felt super awkward, and everything always ended up as a huge fight again the same three enemies instead of an awesome sneak through the mission area. After having just played Deus Ex Mankind Divided, there's no comparison on the stealth. In that game, there's so many alternative paths and ways to go about your objective, that you can go through a place without killing anyway and literally being a ghost, where it feels next to impossible sometimes here (certainly not like a master assassin should be.) And while the combat was improved compared to Black Flag, it does get repetitive after a while. It's more challenging than before which is nice, but it still pales in comparison to something like the combat from Batman Arkham games. And there's always TONS of enemies everywhere, so you see the limitation of the combat pretty quick. PLUS I felt that the story was confusing and forgettable. All the voice acting and cutscenes look and sound great, but I didn't really understand why I was killing these people or what their importance was. In the end, it was just a revenge story and you kill a big bad templar guy or something, I don't even know. Honestly, the most memorable parts of the game were the cool glitch missions like climbing the German occupied Eiffel Tower or running through the sewers of early industrial France. Finally, the side missions are not worth doing in my opinion, maaaybe I didn't do enough to warrant saying this, but I'm pretty sure they are all just the same as what you will find in the main story, but without nice cutscenes or any plot points. And there's WAAAY too many in the game, everywhere you go, there's like 5 missions around every corner. Quality over quantity I would say. RDR2 understood that, so I played all the side missions in that game and loved pretty much each and every one. But here, they seem like just ways to get some more skill points or gold. If you are a big AC fan and have never played this, give it a try, but if not, you can probably skip this without any regret.
Combat is bad, but parkour is smooth and has an enormous skill gap, something unseen in other AC games. The combat animation is however way cooler then all other games and the concept of danger in it is great, rewarding you for staying clear of it. The game is written very well in terms of that. The story is a let down however. Every other aspect is great 👍
Ok tu dois avoir 12 ans maximum pour dire un truc pareil. D'autant plus que Valhala est un des top3 plus mauvais. Les 2 premiers AC définissent le genre.
This game is criminally under rated.i felt like I was the only one at launch that loved it and to this day the game holds up real well. This is probably the best game in the series but people will over look it because the game had tech issues at launch but go back and play it today and you will love everything about this game it's incredible
The side missions and detective quests were nice too. Heavy weapon animations are crazy as well. I just love the late European Middle Age setting of the older games.
Loved this game. Pre-ordered it but didn't play it straight away when it came out, because I was still playing Shadow of Mordor at the time. So began playing it 2 or 3 months later while most of the bugs were luckily already fixed. Just started it again on my PS5 because of the Olympic Games and it holds up so well! My advise is to set the spoken language to French as it adds much to the immersion.
The game was unplayable, It had breaking bugs everywhere, crashed a lot and took months until It was In a playable state. Were It not for that, people would take about this one a lot more fondly.
I was 12 when Unity dropped and wanted to play it for so long, everybody hated on the game but I still wanted to play it. Now in a decade later as a 21 year old I’m playing it for the first time and it’s so far my favorite out of what AC games I’ve played.
Currently playing through it and yes it absolutely holds up. The city feels so immersive so vibrant it's actually incredible. If you speak even the slightest amount of french I also strongly recommend playing the French Dub
Watched my uncle play AC 1,2,3 when I was younger, bought Valhalla after it was released, loved the open world on it but I wasn’t getting the same feeling as when I watched him, so I watched some of your videos last night and ended up buying unity for £3.50, loving it so far… black flag may be my next buy though🧐
I played Unity years ago (bought it as soon as it launched) and AC is one of my fave franchise - so i also bought and played Syndicate, Origins, Odissey, Mirage, etc. And finished them all. Btw i haven't buy the last AC Japanesse one - a.k.a Shadow. I could say that Unity is one of the best AC i've played so far. For 2014 game it has a wonderful graphic, smooth parkour, good stealth, various battle's animations (just like you've said), various approaches the target and even co-op.
Just got this for like 8 bucks on the steam sale. It's actually staggering how good this looks. Even tho it's baked lighting (limiting to non dynamic day/night cycle) it's absolutely gorgeous, and like you said, the crowd and detail density puts a lot of current games to shame. Hoping i connect with this one more from a story stand point as i never ended up finishing it back in the day. I played syndicate like 7 years after its release and it's honestly my favorite next to brotherhood, so hope this one can hold a candle too.
I got loads of games from my best friend and unity was one of them. Never played it and I haven’t played an AC game in years so I guess it’s time to give this one a go
4:12 Yeees, that's a very good point. Just running around aimlessly just to get into fights. I'm honestly amazed by how good this game is. My 1st AC game.
7:32 the reason people gave bad reviews to the game is because it had a really poor launch with lots of bugs and glitches. This was probably due to how ambitious the game was, but once the bugs were patched out the game really started to shine
Yes unity had a rough launch but playing it now after everything has been smoothed out, the game is so different. It is the MOST complete AC hands down. Combat, story, graphics, parkour, everything. And I say this as an Ezio Trilogy fan myself. You covered everything in this video perfectly.
I love how the movement further characterized Arno like in his assassinations you see that he uses momentum to land finishing blows or hidden blades like he throws himself at people because he has a smaller frame since he isn't a brute like how Edward or conner was its just a little detail that I can appreciate
Got this with the Christmas bundle Xbox one when it first released and I fell in love with this game even though people shit on the story line and the bugs I never had problems with either of those things and this game will always hold a special place in my heart I’ll always have this game in my back pocket when I get bored with newer releases
Hot take, Unity is a top 5 AC game, and is at it's best when you have 4 friends to play with. It allows for the most freedom of any games for your assassin. If you want to lean into combat and be an enforcer, only utilizing stealth to get in and thin the herd a bit before striking, you can do that. If you want to be a trickster, using poison and smokes to help your dedicated true assassin from a distance or even give them more opportunities, you can. Want to lean into stealth and be in and out before you're even noticed, you can do that. Do you want to utilize range and help pull targets away from you stealth team and even assist the enforcer when the crowd gets too think with difficult units, you can do that. You truly have more freedom in this game for your own assassin than any other, and playing with other people makes the game even better. I wish they made another Unity like game so you can be an assassin with your friends and even make your own assassin squadron with your friends. It was, and would be so much fun. Not to mention how great parkour felt in that game. The only issue was the horrible state the game launched in, but if they made another game like it and let it really cook for the right amount of time, it would be great.
Just bought this for PS4 in the store for $4.50. I have such a backlog of games, I get em way late and cheap. 1/2 way through the vid, I clicked the purchase button. Thanks. Will try to remember to come back and confirm a matching opinion.
This is probably one of the best games in the AC franchise; second only to Black Flag. It got bad reviews when it first released for a couple of reasons. One being it had bugs when it launched; two being that the game was ahead of it's time. Ubisoft wanted to push the limits of PC's with this one and even high end gaming rigs at the time struggled to run it. Every building had open windows to go through, and they intentionally loaded this title with many more npc characters than anything before it. They wanted it to really feel overcrowded like revolutionary France.
What people underappreciate is how good it was artistically. They studied old paintings, which is evident in the color scheme and how well they baked global illumination into the textures and added light effects. It looks incredible.
The combination of 1:1 Paris architecture, no holds back visuals, dense crowds, and realistic animations truly inhibits the feeling of stepping into a Time Machine and being transported back to the French Revolution. No other AC game has that same feeling. You play them and you feel like you’re playing a game. Unity is just crazy immersive.
No but this was my first AC back in 2016, I was IN LOVE with everything about it. I got so obsessed that I even read the sketchy book about it and saw every documentary on the french revolution just to get more of the game. Imagine my surprise when I found out people didn’t liked it. And then when I played syndicated and the parkour wasn’t nearly as good. I was flabbergasted
5:30 I absolutely loved the "glitches in the matrix" parts. Especially the part where you walk into a sewer and come out into Nazi invaded Paris. That. Was. Amazing.
I remember everyone was complaining about glitches at launch. I think the dev took too long to fix it and the change to impress had withered away by that point.
The only assassins creed game that I have ever played are Bloodline on the PSP, Black Flag and Unity on release and I must say that I am pretty lucky to have only played the golden gems.
Going to give this a try for sure! I loved Origins and Odyssey , Valhalla was ok, and then Mirage was just went off a cliff. So bad. I only played like, 1 or 2 hours of it, but maybe I need to go back and really pin down why the movement and combat felt so poor, as well as how the story kicked off. Thanks again for the vid mate.
I love the way people talk about unity now compared to back then. When it first dropped everybody clowned on it for the bugs but I appreciated it. The coop online with friends and free roam. The ambitious number of npcs in one place pushing the boundaries of that current gen of consoles, the new combat parry system, the parkour in which they motion captured off real stuntmen. None of us realised we’d be looking at the last good AC game.
I just bought this game for about £2.56 and will play for fun as it looks good and haven't played an AC game in long.Looks really good gonna try out when its done downloading
I still can’t believe how immersive the NPCs were like you listen to their conversations and see what they get up to on the streets. Other AC games they’ve reduced NPC activity
I was absolutely blown away when I downloaded this just now after YEARS of sitting in my owned games, and the movement, combat and everything is 1000000 times better then mirage
As someone that played at release I can tell u why it wasn’t well received: bugs. Many. Was literally unplayable for many including myself. Falling thru the world map. Getting stuck randomly and having to restart. Straight up crashing. It was really bad for many and got some major at the time deserved backlash. Came back half a year later to most stuff fixed and have loved it ever since.
I'm currently playing this after having just finished Syndicate, which I absolutely loved, and while I'm enjoying it I find that its dragging on too much! Paris looks amazing but the map is a cluttered mess with far too much going on that makes it hard to see where the important quests are, when you can actually find them! I played Syndicate to completion without playing a single other game at the time yet I find with Unity I keep getting bored and going back to other games until I feel like playing it again.
I wanted to play this since 2017. I'm not a videogame person. I heard about the game when Notre Dame fire happened. I'm also history lover. Maybe this Chritsmas I finally buy it!!!
The game is also my favorite because it offers a lot overall. A good story, interesting murder investigations, main mission can be approached in different ways etc. After that comes Black Flag for me. The Ezio triology naturally has the most exciting meta story. Have to play Unity Again
I’m starting with unity. I’m also new to the stealth genre in general so my honest opinion is after about 30 minutes of play. It’s a little slow so far I’ve only just got to the palace. I don’t understand the story. 8/10 so far but I haven’t played enough for a actually valid opinion
I really enjoyed this game, especially about a month after it came out. The hate stemmed from its poorly optimized release and being required to download an app on our phones to 100% the game (that app went down in 2015 I believe). Lastly people complained about the controls (I always liked them). Glad people are starting to open their eyes and appreciate it.
So this was one of the first games I had when I bought my ps4. I remember playing only about an hour of it and stopping because it completely crashed my brand new fresh out the box console TWICE! It was to the point I got warning screens about data corruption….. don’t get me wrong I loved what I played of it but wasn’t about to risk buggering up a new console for it. Would love to go back and give it another go though.
The take on the combat i have to add a bit, i do love how heavy and how impactful every hit feels in this game. The pacing aren't as quick as the other AC games but that what makes it so good imo.. it made every swing and block feels way more meaningful rather than just keep parrying + execute or spamming the attack button. Although i wish it had more variations with the weapon choices...
I’m loving this game. The acrobatics, the camera and graphics work for me. It feels like a big open world. The stained glass is crazy when climbing some churches. Fine detail. It seems a little limited in some ways, but I can’t speak on that being new into this one. The opponents aren’t overly easy to battle, which I like. I’m in the beginning though. This might be the best ac.
This is my favorite AC game even when I played and got the platinum in 2014 I didn’t have game breaking issues like the reviews made it out to be going to redownload it and replay it in my PS5
Played unity in 2014 at age like. 9 or 10 and never beat it despite the amount of times i played it. 9 to 10 year's later ive returned to beat this game after beating its predecessors
I totally missed this gem back in 2014, but i found it in gamepass last week and gave it a go. With Series X fps boost this game feels really good. Of course there is still minor bugs occasionally, but overall it is best AC game hands down.
I loved this game when I first played it in 2015. I'm pretty sure I got into it after they fixed many bugs so I didn't notice anything wrong and it's definitely in my top 2/3 games of Assassin's Creed!
Haven't played any ac in like 12 yrs, just bought myself a gaming laptop after years of not playing and I think it's reasonable to go for older games, and your vid just made be but this, last ac was ...HM AC 3, let's see, cheers for vid, I choose unity over rogue because of you

Odyssey and Orgins

Shame they wasted the setting.

@@bit_ronic This is revisionist history. i remember when this game first came out and people were getting sick and tired of the same ole Ubisoft format and Unity was a step backwards gameplay wise compared to Black Flag apart from the backlash against glitches.
unity feels newer than mirage
I hear that👍
I'm not a hater of new games, i played Valhalla and i loved the locations, the exploration and the raids at Wardruna songs. But i tried Mirage at a friend's house and it felt really dull, they failed to bring back the old AC vibe.
I may still buy it later on sales for 15€ tho
it also feels newer than Shadows LOL
@@energytrail315 just started playing again lol shadows looks like shit
Bought Mirage on Friday - Played 2 hours and gave up on it - complete rubbish and not worth the money even on a sale. Picked up a physical copy of AC Unity today, runs 60 fps on PS5, plays beautifully and the story is night and day compared to Mirage.
This game is still unmatched with all the NPC's it has. Love it.
I can 100% agree with that. I noticed right away how much harder the stealth was when playing this.
It's good you did as it was polished from bugs.
"a student of history" who actually believes Ubisoft helped Notre Dame reconstruction. This is a silly myth.

@@Haiyaaa2352nah forget that if only people read this and understand
A+ on your essay. As a casual AC fan, you just made me buy Unity on PS5
I'm an alternating current fan. DC sucks. AC is better.
Ac origins world setting is accurate and phenomenal , nothing stands against it , origins only lacks a good parkour
It makes sense seeing as Ubisoft is based in France.
Syndicate is pretty accurate too. As a former London motorcycle courier I can navigate to any of the landmarks without needing the mini map!
Yes you should play Assassin's creed unity even in 2050

@@emanuelldavid607 the story so bad bro
They recently skipped over this to patch Syndicate up to 60fps on consoles, when that is exactly what we want for this older AC title. Syndicate was 2015, a year after this game. Surely Unity can run between 50 to 60fps on current gen consoles, with VRR to smooth out any framerate drops.
I got this game a couple of days ago and I've been really enjoying it. 100% recommend.
im gonna buy the game tomorrow.... wanna grind together?
WTF are you talking about? Bugs were very normal in the 2000s. They're becoming less and less acceptable. The game came out in 2014.
@@erwantanguy8361 You're goddamn right. Our standards are super low now.
I really want Ubisoft to bring the old blackbox assassination missions back to the franchise... but we all know that will never happen anytime soon.

I just started getting into AC and I chose unity as my first game, best decision I’ve ever made coz I love this game so much. I did try origins before starting unity but I didn’t get past the prologue coz it wasn’t what I expected from AC (still a good rpg game if you’re looking for those). That’s great to see!

Black Flag has cool stealth with many options, very easy combat, and a beautiful open world.
But it also probably has the most mature story in the franchise.

(I never played the co-op quests much because I play on ps4, so I don't have much opinion on those),
People also like to complain that Arno was supposed to be the "next ezio", which I don't really think applies.
In that game, there's so many alternative paths and ways to go about your objective, that you can go through a place without killing anyway and literally being a ghost, where it feels next to impossible sometimes here (certainly not like a master assassin should be.)
And while the combat was improved compared to Black Flag, it does get repetitive after a while.
Imo, Unity is the best AC game, the best animations, combat, stealth kills, etc
No Valhalla et bien meilleur sur tout les points unity et un ac qui a régressé un des pire comme les 2 premier qui sont médiocre

Happy birthday, lil man.
This game is criminally under rated.i felt like I was the only one at launch that loved it and to this day the game holds up real well. This is probably the best game in the series but people will over look it because the game had tech issues at launch but go back and play it today and you will love everything about this game it's incredible
I just downloaded it after playing mirage and valhalla over again. It feels really nostalgic tbh reminds me of good childhood memories
The side missions and detective quests were nice too. Heavy weapon animations are crazy as well. I just love the late European Middle Age setting of the older games.
The events take place in the Renaissance but I get what you mean, we can see Paris had still a lot of medieval buildings back then ;)
@ it actually plays out in the French Revolution. The Renaissance led to that point. You know what I mean yeah😂
Unity was seriously overlooked when it came out.
Did you not see how bad it was when it came out? It needed a 40gb patch just for bugs
Chaaracter models didn’t even have skin on their faces when it came out. It was like playing a game on a bad acid trip.
The game was unplayable, It had breaking bugs everywhere, crashed a lot and took months until It was In a playable state. Were It not for that, people would take about this one a lot more fondly.

That's your opinion, AC2, Black flag are way better imo. Even Syndicate holds a more special place in my heart than Unity.
I had such a blast playing this game back in the days.
I never hated the game because I never got the bugs. I love this game! Peak AC.
The graphics still hold up!
Currently playing through it and yes it absolutely holds up.
The city feels so immersive so vibrant it's actually incredible. If you speak even the slightest amount of french I also strongly recommend playing the French Dub
It's such a shame we shat on it when it came out. Sure it had its graphic glitches, but it really pushed the tech at the time.
Minus the insane amount of bugs and server issues, this game still holds strong. Hard to believe it's been 10 years
on ps5 (ps4 version) it doesn't look so good unfortunately
Watched my uncle play AC 1,2,3 when I was younger, bought Valhalla after it was released, loved the open world on it but I wasn’t getting the same feeling as when I watched him, so I watched some of your videos last night and ended up buying unity for £3.50, loving it so far… black flag may be my next buy though🧐

You convinced me to buy it. I finished Mirage few months ago and I really enjoyed it. Let's try this out!
I was shocked playing it on my Xbox Series S. On the current gen consoles it looks like a solid remaster.
7:32 the reason people gave bad reviews to the game is because it had a really poor launch with lots of bugs and glitches. This was probably due to how ambitious the game was, but once the bugs were patched out the game really started to shine
Imagine what the ratings would have been if there was no bugs 😲😲
It’s like cyberpunk but the difference is Ubisoft doesn’t care for its consumers once it fails on to the next one
@@Soni_cs well Ubisoft actually fixed most of the bugs in this game which is why it’s so good. Butt you’re right they probably wouldn’t do that today
Finally after 10 years I'm able to play this masterpiece. Great review! Just Subscribed.
Just started last week for the first time. Completely hooked.
I still find myself once in a while coming back to Unity, the weapon variety and the customizations are awesome.
I needed this .. cheers !
ive started playing this. im enjoying it thus far
100% agree , i just downloaded it after not playing it for years and this was my exact reaction
What people underappreciate is how good it was artistically. They studied old paintings, which is evident in the color scheme and how well they baked global illumination into the textures and added light effects. It looks incredible.
Initially it suffered from bugs but what I like is you can play coop with your friends
Just platinumed the game, was on my backlog for years,i was surprised how great the game is,played over 100 hours
No prob man!
I read somewhere that 'true greatness stands the test of time'
AC Unity has done that. I play today and dont feel that it was released long back
Once you add ACUFix mod and a reshade to fix the pop in and make it look crispy this game is forsure the best in the series
Already playing it and it's fantastic definitely it feels more like assassin than newer games it's more realistic
The issue back in the day was they heavily advertised the multiplayer aspect over the main story aspect. It was solid overall really
I just bought this game for about £2.56 and will play for fun as it looks good and haven't played an AC game in long.Looks really good gonna try out when its done downloading
Nice, thanks for the review. Got a crazy Rod On from this.
😂
@@L321 wow!! 7 month ago and you're still replying!! i'm just following for that dedication!!
I agree with all you mentioned, Unity is by far my favorite AC game with Origins and Revelations.
👌🏻👌🏻
This guy is now my favourite ac content creator ❤
Appreciate that!
I’m starting with unity. I’m also new to the stealth genre in general so my honest opinion is after about 30 minutes of play. It’s a little slow so far I’ve only just got to the palace. I don’t understand the story. 8/10 so far but I haven’t played enough for a actually valid opinion
The story in Unity is actually really cool. Arno is an awesome assassin.
Would love to go back and give it another go though.
its almost new years eve 2025 and just start it playing it and got to say man!its such a good game so far
I didn't finish this game, will try to play Unity again, hoping that my saved game from the cloud is still there.
Unity is by far the best assassin creed game I’ve tried all the assassin creed games and I’m still playing unity
Although i wish it had more variations with the weapon choices...
the fact that they used AC Unity’s architecture for the rebuild of Notre-Dame after it burned down is mindblowing
I love unity, maybe doesn't have the best history but gameplay, graphics, and co-op it's just peak in the franchise
Arno likes to spin alot, you can notice it in his animations
