  • @skilledwarman
    @skilledwarman 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    On the "Did Han know?" thing, you guess forgot a moment I think is very important: Han talking to Maz.
    Because in the castle when Rey walks away and ends up finding the Saber Maz looks at Han and gives him a "you're hiding something from me" look and asks "Alright, who's the girl?". Han gives her a grimace and it cuts away. Then the next time we see Maz she had followed Rey down to the relic basement and seems intrigued by the saber calling to her. Now that part could just be a general "oh the force lead someone here" then "oh the force lead YOU specifically here".
    So between the knowing looks at Rey that Han gives and the Maz thing I do think that JJ was trying to set up that Han knew more than he let on

    Q&A Hey I have a question for you guys
    If the Rebel alliance were so short on manpower to fight against the Empire why did they never try and reactivate some battle droids from the clone wars to fill out the ranks a bit.
    Obviously the real explanation was battle droids didn't exist yet but I was wondering if there was an in universe explanation.

    • @ianscultgaming3601
      @ianscultgaming3601 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most of the battle droids were decayed by the time the Rebellion was in full swing. I think they said something about it on an episode of the behind the scenes for Rebels. A droid landed a head shot on Rex’s helmet and it didn’t kill him because the droid had decayed

    • @flamingbunnyrabbits
      @flamingbunnyrabbits 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In Fallen Order we see how quick they were to scrap even republic ships, so I wouldn't be surprised if battle droids were scrapped en masse. Of course there were so many they couldn't all be scrubbed away, as we've seen battle droid bits as far as the sequels. I don't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure other than that the only times we see battle droids are ones being used by people who can afford to have newer or preserved droids.
      As for manufacturing new ones, we know the factory on geonosis was destroyed, so its safe to assume that as soon as the CIS was defeated the droid factories were destroyed so that a group like the rebels wouldn't be able to use them.
      But then by the time of the Mandalorian, we see that the New Republic is using new forms of security battle droids, so it was definitely on some ones mind. So I wouldn't be surprised if there were stories at some point about some Rebel cells using repurposed battle droids to fight the empire.

    We all know that the story was changed, but I think for the better, when it comes to Rey. The fact she’s a Palpatine, just makes her a m ore interesting character. It also leaved The Mandelorian open to going somewhere that explores the early days of her and Ben’s life. He is five in the current timeline, and she will be born in five years, which can be accelerated with time jumps between each season. I think they should bring back Rey, but at the right time. I also think it should focus on a different storyline, but one that has some connection to her bloodline. She also has those Journals of Luke’s, and all the Jedi scripts, which could lead her to all sorts of places.

    I truly believe J.J. had the idea of Rey being related to Sidious while working on TFA. Of course he didn’t planned to make it happen as such back then since Trevorrow was director of IX in that moment. But back in early 2016, media asked J.J. if he knew something about Rey’s parentage. His response was “I know some stuff”. I can safely guess he had this idea of Sidious around, probably left it in writing for directors of VIII and IX as reference whether they would develop the idea or not. When he was offered the opportunity to direct IX he might’ve seen the chance to take his own idea and develop it himself. So this is all wild guesses, I know. But I believe there’s plenty of room for believing J.J. had Sidious in mind as ancestor of Rey from the very beginning.

    The major hint that Han knew who Rey was is when Maz asks him, "who's the girl?", which is immediately followed by a cut. When I first saw the film, I assumed that he knew who she was because of his knowing looks and oddly uncomfortable behaviour. But it works equally well if he didn't know to be honest, as him knowing or not doesn't really end up mattering.
    The bigger question is when Leia and Luke found out, because I find that difficult to track. It was *clearly* decided in the final film, but so was Luke and Leia being siblings in RoTJ, so it always seems lazy to just say that! JJ co-wrote both TFA and TROS so it seems plausible that this was his plan from the start.

    • @kungolaf4499

      I feel like Leia knew from the moment she saw her walking from the falcon... And that is 80% of the reason why she went to hug her. A lost and confused girl who's force has awakened but who is yet innocent and unknowing enough to be good... and she sees Palpatine's spirit right through as well. She is smart enough to know that shunning and individual because of their lineage and darkness isn't the right way to go about it so she gives her a tight embrace instead.
      So she goes to embrace her, right away, to offer her unconditional care and love so that this being with a dark past wouldn't go dark. She also is compensating for the loss she endured, she knew she failed Kylo after she felt him kill his father. She didn't offer him the home he needed, she wasn't there for him. So she embraces Rey, as to state that she won't make the same mistake again.
      Luke got a scent with the scene where he says _you went straight to the dark_ . But he figures it out when he reconnects with Leia, remembers the light and hope she brings and goes to help the galaxy fully believing in Rey even with her past. _I will not be The Last Jedi._

      It was more plausible before the Disney buyout since we already had the Infinities series with Episodes 4, 5 and 6. With the “new” canon, I think Disney will want to keep the lore consistent and not want to confuse people with What Ifs.
      As big as the MCU is money wise, it is still tiny lore wise when compared to the amount of media Star Wars already encompasses: comics, TV, film, video games, books, all with different original characters like Doctor Aphra, Sabine Wren, Kal Cestus, Alphabet Squadron.

    QA: why do the sith follow the rule of 2? It doesn't seem very selfish planning ahead for 1000 years for someone else to have power.

      Read the Darth Bane Trilogy....

    • @comicop2513
      @comicop2513 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's not how the Sith think. Their greatest goal is immortality, so first off they're not even concerned about who's in power 1000 years down the line, because they want to be that being, live that long and more. Secondly, they may be selfish but they're still smart, and religious. Low numbers ensures their strength gradually increases with no competition, and they can remain in hiding from the Jedi. Sith are forced to have an apprentice for their religion to carry on. If the last existing Sith died, their religion dies with them. It's not as simple as me selfish, me no teach!

    • @nickkenter7551
      @nickkenter7551 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      At first they didn't follow the rule of 2.
      When the sith were only bringing eachother down for power, a sith named Kaan created the Brotherhood of Darkness. Basically it was a power grabbing "jedi order" using the dark arts. However, what would happen, is that the weak would gang up on the strong, causing the weak to survive. This was ofcourse weakening the sith order. Darth Bane saw this happening, after obtaining knowledge from a holocron he realises something: There should only be 2 sith. One with all the power and one who craves it. If the Apprentice is able to take the mantle from the Master, it means that the Apprentice has grown stronger than the Master (by killing the master). By doing this over and over, the sith grow stronger and stronger. I think almost every sith master (aside Darth Bane) think they are the Sith'ari. The Sith'ari is basically the one who will wipe the jedi out according to Sith legend. So whilst the Sith are plotting to take down the Jedi (which are automatically linked to the Republic), I don't think they are doing it for further generations, but actually for themselves (because they think they can do it in their lifetime).

      I know this is intended for Star Wars Explained, but I just wanted to give my two cents. Since no one knew Anakin was having twins, if they were separated and one was found, Vader and Palpatine wouldn't expect there to be another child out there. If they were together and were found, Vader might've sensed that they were both his children and that Padme had twins.

    • @arafat9828
      @arafat9828 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Here's my list of ultimate what if's??
      1. What if Qui Gon Jinn defeated Maul at Naboo. Would the Jedi Council have allowed Obi Wan to teach Anakin then? ( I always considered them allowing Anakin to be trained as complying to Qui Gon's last wishes). This raises an interesting prospect. Would Anakin have turned to the dark side then? *Would Qui Gon have joined the Separatists as claimed by Dooku in AOTC* ( Qui Gon was Dooku's apprentice)
      2. What if Ahsoka never left the Jedi Order. We can all agree that she represented his good and caring side, probably more than Padme. Would he have joined the Dark Side if she was alongside him. Sidious would know that she was a theat and try to remove her so, that would be an interesting dynamic.
      3. What if Luke listened to Yoda and Obi Wan and decided that killing Vader was the only way to defeat the Empire, instead of trying to turn him to the Light Side. Would he have been killed? Or, more likely, would he have been turned to the Dark Side as well????

    I don’t think Han knew, I think Leia figured it out. Given her previous life as a politician and a royal. She probably would have heard talk that Palpatine had a son got married and a child. And suddenly the family disappeared. And when Rey pops up with this dark power , along with the curious fact that she comes from a back water like Jakku yet sounds as if she comes from the aristocracy. She just put 2 and 2 together. And figured this was Palpatine’s grandaughter.

    Q/A Counterpoint on the Sith being quiet for so long: Would be weird that a bunch of Dark Siders are so selfless and disciplined that they would not want to have power for themselves but would work for a next generation. Doesnt vibe with Ambition, Passion, etc. Question being: would it not make more sense that there were more attempts at a Sith take-over but that they failed? It would also make a lot more sense for Jedi to be still running around with Lightsabers in a galaxy of blasters-only.

  • @connerclark3678
    @connerclark3678 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m hazarding a guess Luke was able to “see” who Rey was in the rush of emotion when he walked in on her and Ben. He couldn’t have seen it during “Lesson 1” ; he was much too shocked she leaned into the Dark Side. The one time he name-drops Darth Sidious he doesn’t seem to grimace or hesitate either, so I doubt he knew then.
    As for Leia... her knowing/seeing right away in 7 would have been intense enough to be why she ignored Chewie. It’s possible she found enough clues (maybe from talking to Lando) to know some Palpatine granddaughter was out there and possibly on Jakku, Ochi’s last known location.

    As far as other Sith trying to overthrow the Republic, it's important to remember that it takes way more than one chancellorship to take down a whole Republic. The Sith would have built and strengthened a whole massive system of corruption and darkness and passed along the names of corrupted people and worlds apprentice by apprentice. Then finally when they felt they were ready, a lone Sith lord could attempt to infiltrate the highest levels of power and throw the switch.
    Beyond that, I would also assume that some Sith lords were relatively non-interventionist and more interested in pursuing the mysteries of the Force and their own philosophy rather than taking an active role in the age-old 'let's destroy the Republic' wishful scenario.
