We don't have as many brands as you have over there but there are certainly other things you could try, like everything on our midsummer/christmas/easter dinner table, every cinnamon bun from every café or every meatball from every restaurant, every candy from the candy wall in a grocery store, everything from a local fast food chain like Max Burgers, or maybe you could make additions to your previous rankings with local brands from wherever you visit. Either way, I'm really enjoying these rankings. Keep it up!
As a Swede I agree! Stewed Macaroni with Falusuasage/Swedish meatballs, to the flatbread with mashed potatoes and suasages, IKEA foods and so on. So many fun and silly dishes and candies to try. Semla, Kroppkakor, Rotmos med fläsklägg, Ärtsoppa och pannkakor. THE OPTIONS ARE ENDLESS!
*Wipes tear from eye* Our Babish is expanding. He's on his way to Bourdain and Zimmerman land. You mentioned Italian heritage, so that has to be a go to. The tour of Asia is also an option, because somehow you didn't do a street food ranking video. Of course you had to feast, but that would be amazing ranking content as well. A street food ranking conquest would be so fun to watch as viewers tbh.
The fake grape is 'Methyl Anthranilate' and the 'green grape' as you called it is actually Muskat.
naaa, the fake grape is vynil glove juice ;-)
@@avelord6135 nile fans are everywhere lol.
He’s also wrong about it being a fake flavor. It’s natural, Methyl anthranilate is the main flavor giving chemical of Concord grapes. It’s real grape flavor, just not from the grapes we eat.
@ashergs1237 i eat concord grapes and the fake grape flavor is not the same, just like vanilla doesn't taste purely of vanillan
@@melikecomedy probably because its not a purified and processed chemical. its the same deal with raw milk(if i were you. raw milk isnt worth it. the cons of it outweigh the pros. the cons being raw milk can go bad faster. is more expensive. and not really legal for certain parts of the world but also very risky)
Travel/ranking food ideas:
Charcuterie tour of Europe: get your fill of nitrates while ranking jambon, pršut, speck, brési, salami...
Mexican street foods in Mexico: elote, Sonoran hot dogs, churros, tortas, vasos de fruta, tacos...
Fruits and vegetables of the Amazon.
Desserts and pastries in Amsterdam.
Wild game of US gulf states: head to Louisiana or Florida and sample the abundant wildlife. What ranks higher: possum pie, fried alligator, nutria sausage, curried iguana, snapping turtle stew...
Fried chicken in Hawaii: the confluence of cultures in Hawaii means you have many types of fried chicken available: fast food, Korean, Filipino, Southern, local/Hawaiian, Japanese...
The two mystery cans you had were "amazake" or sweet sake like the off camera person said. You just got two version, one with ginger (the first) and one w/o (the second).
I love that at the 37 minute mark, you can Tommy Lee Jones on the ad for Boss Coffee, looming over Andrew's shoulders
the whole boss commercials with him are their own drama series, it's amazing
sadly he's no longer the mascot for them :\ so modern products of theirs just have a non-descript dude depicted now.
In case you're wondering, the 2nd sandwich at 37:08 is Pork Tenderloin. Katsu sandwiches are all pork where the other variants like chicken are in the name.
There was a banana on the front of that carton of fruit milk! I think maybe the worry about whether something contains bananas should come before you drink it, not after.
I love that you filmed with Connor! He's so fun.
Frasier : Well Niles, it doesn't look like anybody is leaving; why don't we take a table outside?
Niles: Why not? I'm feeling al Fresco.
Frasier: Oh, how does Mrs. Fresco feel about that?
Feel free to come up to Scotland for your next trip Babish!!
Babish seating on the same bench in the park I used to eat breakfast in the morning and drinking at night when I was visiting Japan in May with friends is bringing a tear to my eye.
I wish this was like 2 hours long!!! Love these videos 👍
How is no one mentioning that from 39:17 to 39:27 there's a loud high pitch sound similar to a mosquito device, I almost couldn't hear Babish over it and my cats went crazyyyy
I'd really love to see the BCU team explore the food culture of a country I am less familiar with and that gets featured less in these type of videos. I think that Ethiopia has some amazing food and I've never seen a big TH-camr talk about or explore it before and I would absolutely love to see a video there. If also love to see y'all visit a place where human civilization started so you can really see where all of our food culture was born. Keep up the great work! 👍
That super high-pitched noise around 39:20 had me lookin around like a dog would. Beware headphone users with sensitive hearing.
man it looks like yall had a great time, im very happy for you, BCU!
Comeon Babish, don't humble yourself. You are the pinnacle of crunchiness meets tenderness ma' Boi!♥
I went to the top of Mount Moiwa near Sapporo in the middle of winter, and there was a vending machine that sold hot creamed corn in a can. It sounds weird but it really hit the spot.
Come to the Netherlands and rate all the snacks that come out of a wall, and our fish stands (gotta do the raw herring!). Also, pretty much all our grocery stores have a machine to make fresh orange juice. Best thing ever!
lol no
I love constantly looking down at the label to see what's in it despite never being able to read any of the containers.
32:10 you're thinking of Methyl Anthranilate, gotta thank NileRed for this one.
He turned plastic gloves into grape soda and that's the chemical he made by the end.
Last I checked plastic gloves don't have grapes involved much in their production beyond any employee maybe snacking on some grapes while making them so that's the most likely candidate for the grape flavor that has nothing to do with grapes.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of NileRed!
The story, with a deadpan to the camera and saying "Let's see what's inside" SENT ME
Actually 8:22
That’s a Gashapon
It fill a mystery items you’ll get so it doesn’t really count as treats or snacks but you’ll get cool items inside of the machine
Plus I got one of those at my local game store that has those
It's loot crates in real life?
@@donwald3436 Yep! It's kind of like a big gumball machine, you put money in and turn a mechanical clicky dial... but instead of gum you get a plastic capsule with stuff in it.
man vicariously im really enjoying this experience through you guys. Really hope to go one day
Andrew, did you know Bananas without the B is just pineapple?
My suggestion? Take a tour of the open air markets in Madrid or Barcelona (especially La Boqueria) and go from stall to stall finding the best oysters, the best empanadas, or the best paella!
a wild connor has appeared!
Jeff Goldblum with Babish wound be gold
"it's horrible, does not taste like Grape juice. Tastes like cough syrup." - Babs
"No wait. I love it, it tastes like Candy." - Also Babs
japan is my home away from home and despite having spent an entire month there this year... you're still making me miss it so bad!!!!!
"Know what I'm saying?"
*camera nod*
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I love the creepy corner. It's so sketch. Also, like, three blocks from akihabara and the final fantasy cafe.
Hello babish! I love your books ive adapted them to work with my microwave, airfryer and little oven and ivve really made some bangers ! Thanks from uk
MAN REALLY LOVING ALL THESE JAPAN VIDS!
Day 28 of asking for a video called "Botched by fans" where Andrew tries to fix the suggestions the fans made in "Ranking your strange recipes"
“A nice can of panda.” If that’s not the cutest sentence ever. 😭🥺🐼
33:04
Real recognizes real
Above all, I'm glad you all had fun in Japan. Seems like it was a great trip!
Those German cookies with chocolate you were thinking of... Liebnitz is the brand. I love those. As for high-quality European milk chocolate... I personally would not put Cadbury in that category at all. Germany and Switzerland has it beat, by far.
I realize I'm 2 weeks behind on this, but all the talk of Katsu makes me want to see you do the Wurst tour of Germany!
6:03 I'd like to point out that Dr. Pepper, at least to me, tastes like candy. It's the only soda I can think of that has a "candy"-like flavor.
I think of it more as a "spiced fruit" flavor, but I can see "candy" working, too.
Hey Babish, huge fan!
I was thinking, Iran has such incredible, unique cuisine that's largely unexplored by the Western world. From the vibrant stews like khoresh-e ghormeh sabzi to the delicate pastries like baklava, it's a culinary treasure trove waiting to be discovered.
Imagine a series on Iranian food - exploring the history, the regional variations, and maybe even trying your hand at some of the more challenging dishes. I think it would be an incredible and eye-opening experience for both you and your viewers.
What do you think?
i guess its a bit of a reach but germany during christmas time. or rather a few weeks before to explore christmas market food!
id recommend the christmas market in nürnberg!
calling pocari sweat "just Gatorade" makes me seriously question your pallet 😂 😂
Hi Babish and team, so happy you're making videos in Japan! For your next videos, please remember to avoid (a) drinking and eating while standing, (b) obstructing the vending machine area/any public domain that many people would engage in. You can buy the items from the vending machines then find a park to consume and rate them. Thank you!
Andy missed the opportunity to channel Charlton Heston when he ate the squid chips, "the squid chip is people." Thanks to the Babish Crew for getting rank so I don't have to
16:58 both cans say amasake. Only one uses all kanji and the other has hiragana. Both the same drink
the fillet cutlet, or hire katsu, is made from pork tenderloin! Also the green bits in popping shower ice cream is mint flavour, not sure how you missed that 😅 Its probably the most popular baskin robbins flavour in Japan, although I’ve only had it freshly scooped at baskin robbin stands
I love these Japan videos! I think I had heard about the raw meat vending machines on "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me." Did you have any difficulty avoiding bananas in the vending machine smoothies due to the language barrier?
Melon Creamy Soda is one of my childhood favorites from shopping at Japanese supermarkets around LA!
