Why you should read books 1. Increases your vocabulary 2. It stimulates your mind and improves your mental health 3. It makes you more empathic 4. Reading can be transformative 5. Reading helps in stress reduction 6. Reading helps with depression 7. Reading helps build discipline
While reading is great, it’s only one part of the equation. Reading is the consumption while writing is the production. This isn’t to say that you have to strive to be a novelist, but if you exercise writing your thoughts about what you read, it builds understanding and helps you to develop key ideas. Writing and reading go hand in hand. When done in concert, you maximize the benefits from both. If I read something that strikes me, but never write the thoughts down, then it is lost, never to be articulated.

True words my friend, I recently got back into reading and realised how much I missed it. Such a simple but effective and enjoyable way of attaining new perspectives knowledge, and education.
I stopped reading books around my senior year in High School, devastatingly so. I simply couldn’t focus. The story couldn’t hold my attention because I was too distracted on life and what was going on in my life outside of school. I lost my imagination. I’m 24 now. Around 22 I started reading comic books and graphic novels. I really fell back in love with reading good compelling stories. A couple years later, I’m reading Stephen King books, Ernest Hemingway books, Arthur C Clarke sci fi books, William Gibson Sci Fi books, Phillip K Dick sci books, Grant Morrison comics, Frank Miller comics, Alan Moore and many many more writers. I must say I’ve completely fallen head over heels in love with reading again, and it’s all I want to do now a days, get lost in a good book. Reading can be challenging, but that’s the fun part of it. Getting through a dense story can be very rewarding. Reading is underrated af and I hope people give it a chance again.
Keep it up. I too want to go back to reading. I love children's story books and I miss the short stories in my Filipino and English textbooks when I was in elementary and highschool.

I got a secret! Lol I taught myself how to read as a child. It was a " Cinderella" story that I rememberd by heart. Unfortunately, I only got a 1/2 year of kindergarten. I taught myself to read by repetition, sound, and a great memory. This is why I watch people lips for vowel sounds. Now, I am good at word articulate because it had to be developed. I use to watch newscasters to learn language sounds. I love reading to this day.
Thank you for this inspirational video for promoting reading! I especially love the moment when the young man reads a Ukrainian dictionary at minutes 2:44-2:46! Being a Ukrainian, especially during this dramatic time for Ukraine, means a lot to me! The Ukrainian language is beautiful, and I love when foreigners speak in Ukrainian. The accent is pleasant to hear. Thank you!
I started reading because of LeVar Burton's Reading Rainbow TV show back in the day when I was a youngster, since then it's always been truly fundamental!
If you think reading is boring or hard, read old books. They might still be hard, but they won't be boring. Reading is a workout for your brain, like a bike is a workout for your body. You can take your favorite routes, or go where you haven't been before.
@@hisakiasakura480 your opinion must be respected but read ''On the wisdom of life: Aphorisms" By Arthur Schopenhauer you can never find something like that on internet to change your life, its a philosophy btw
Reading was a big help battling my depression. There were times I wasn't able to get out of my bed and thought about commiting suicide in an endless cycle. My brain just never stopped thinking about it and it was truly exhausting. Then I began to pick up books and when I read it was the only time my brain shut up thinking about suicide and how worthless I feel. The different perspetives of characters also animated me to see my own problems, thoughts and life from a different point of view and so reading books finally kickstarted small impulses of changing my way of thinking, getting help, leaving my bed and so. Now, after many years of therapy and conquering my depression I'm still reading a lot. Disappearing into the world of books is my safe space and I'm highly grateful for it.
I've discovered that whenever I see a movie that was a book adaptation then I make it a point to read the book first and discovered there was more to the story in the book then there was in the movie. For example 2001 A Space Odyssey had a lot more to the story than what you saw in the movie.
Its one of my favorite books. It really explained the the first part of the movie involving the apes. Pretty cool. The ending was more intense as well.
What can I say, reading is quite “magical” to me. I read for entertainment (yep, purely for fun) when I was little and never expected any effect on me, yet at this age of my life I do give credit to the past reading experience my inclination to think, to write, to reflect, and to be optimistic. Recently, I have experienced some issues with money, self-improvement, and office socialization. When I got fed up and pick up a random book for a quick “escape,” for some reason, there’s always something in the book I picked that day that would speak to the circumstances I was bothered by: it could be a Confucius quote on point, it could be a fictional story where the heroine has similar struggles, etc. I found myself question: huh? Do books have their own mind and know exactly what I need?! Lol! Yeah, when in doubt, go read a book 😉
Through books, you can learn anything! Just choose what you want to learn and search the best books on the subject. Then, find ways to apply what you read.
Reading improves imagination/visualization, in movies director does the visualization and you just see the output without having to put your brain. As said at last part of video, reading maybe the way to be part of billionaire club. It is as important to read the correct book instead of something, if you want to improve.
Trick I use - Read in 20 min cycles. If you can get through the first 2 you will most likely capture enough information that will make you go another 20 min cycle. For fiction books this can really get you into a storyline . For non-fiction books it can simply help you keep progress over time if you're intending to read and take time to digest a chapter or two over a given time frame.
Reading is so powerful, it allows to go to the unknown, aquire new ideas ,gain from other experiences. It shows intelligence, lucidity. Have a book, read and nourish ur mind. Finally, it enables you a global vision, it stabilizes, it offers peace
Yeah. My elementary school (I'm 22 now) made me hate to read. We had to read 1 book per month and then write a report as 10 years olds. I know it was with good in intentions, but I hated it. Also I have mild, but noticeable dislexia which was completely ignored (nobody's fault). So that resulted to me hating the very mental process of reading. I'm trying to break it now and this video helped me to find motivation. So thank you.
It's wonderful the way we can exercise our brains, expand the way we see and do things, learn from the experiences of others, travel to new places, discover new cultures... **
Great video, thanks! I would only add that it’s important to read book from authors who speak a different language than yours. I think that reading a translation is still an awesome way to read a book in a different language. Having read for quite a while I feel like many books now are nothing more than tv shows or movies in written form and I think that is still ok, but you can get a lot more value from reading a book that was not mass marketed initially.
There's a guy by the name of Stephen Krashen who talks about learning foreign languages through reading. I read short stories and novels in Spanish. I learned more Spanish through reading than trying to pick it up through hearing native Speakers speak and asking questions. If you want to learn a foreign language, reading is like putting a jetpack on your language learning. If you incorporate that with listening to native speakers, you can learn a lot in a matter of months. I truly think you could reach near native level within 5-10 years depending on if you need to learn a new script.
Journey before destination. Reading isn’t about getting to the end. I’m in no hurry. I read each word for itself. I soak it in and enjoy it. I love the small moments and the big moments. And between audible and my kindle… I read ~9 hours per day. Audible for 8 hours during work (I work 9-10 hour shifts). Reading and chess have helped keep my brain sharp. I had a year or two in my late 20s where I didn’t do reading and/or chess, and I noticed a significant decline in my ability to focus. The brain needs exercise.
I started my new years resolution back in October to read more books ( specifically wealth building books) and I've been loving it. Readrich dad poor dad, richest man in babylon and now started your money or you're life. Good stuff.
Same here, January I started reading wealth building books, Started with Rich dad poor dad and now I am reading Think and Grow Rich.I now enjoy reading.
It takes a big ego to read, it can be very hard work! I accept this and I also love to read. Concentration is a virtue and power. I try to read from the heart, which can be very slow reading, picking up the fragile thread and not losing it till the end.
Awesome!! I really love reading, because it helps me to learn more words and also to get some experience that it would take me years to learn, so reading improves our life. It reminds me about the first book I've read, and it was Jeffrey Archer. Since that time, I haven't stopped reading. That's the best video I've seen so far about the importance of reading!! Greetings from Brazil, São Paulo.
This video seems to argue why reading is useful as apposed to why reading books is useful. I find that whenever people say reading it's too focused on books specifically despite there being many other forms of literature aside from books. My parents keep imploring I read books, and they say I spend too much time on my laptop despite the fact that I still read paragraphs worth of writing from websites, articles, other pieces that draw my attention, and even reviewing my own pieces of writing. I find reading to not introduce as much vocabulary as people may think. I read several book series growing up, and what I got from them was not a broad vocabulary. Reading will allow you to understand new words, and help you to understand unknown words in the future, but being able to recall them at the drop of a hat requires you to practice using them. This is why I find writing to be a much better substitute to reading to widen your vocabulary since it causes you to use new words as apposed to just reading them.
After reading Rich Dad, Poor Dad by R. Kiyosaki, my life has completely changed. It is true that one can chart a new course in their life by reading a book. Had i not read that, im sure I have a completely different mindset today.
Also, really good books can encapsulate a subject with much more thought, love and effective design embedded in it than some quicker product devised by a TH-camr in a few hours. Books more often have layers of meaning that inspire a wider array of thoughts. A podcast can get several messages out very quickly, and you get a sense of the personality of the people. But if that podcast were an edited and designed narrative, it would actually save you time, and provide greater value, as there would be no pointless misunderstandings between the speakers, and the author would raise and answer the interesting questions that come up, which in podcasts are often touched on briefly, or trail off and disappear in order to move on or be consumed by an ad. Rather than focusing on particular identities and characters, books highlight the idea of the Author of that microcosmic world in the story.
I actually read The Hunger Games AFTER seeing the motion picture. Seeing the The Hunger Games on screen is actually what made me decide to read the books.
I work with someone (actually this is the second guy I worked with) who said - "Books....books are stupid!". The most recent one also said reading books will make you go crazy or become a psychopath..........I have no response to either of these ideas.
The one who said books are stupid, is one himself if he is a book. The other bloke who said reading books will turn the reader into a psychopath or a lunatic must be into video games and dating and hook-up apps. I wonder what kind of logic they possess and which side of their families did they take after?
I started reading a few months back, I had never read before. It feels really good after reading your first book. I completed my first book in 3 months but time reduce with the next one. Next time, I'll also make sure I'll read instead of watching a video to know the benefits of any think :p .
Yo thanks a lot for the video and thanks a lot once again because this channel lets me practice gratitude love you and I haven’t watched Game of thrones in my entire life i am in the 1% bracket
All true, yes. More people should read more often. One slight thing though, is that video games do help with reaction times, critical thinking, etc. depending on the game, so it does have it's benefits as well.
Is this a plug for Ben Carson’s book? He doesn’t seem like the brightest crayon in the box. And reading puts me to sleep almost instantly. I think I’m moving more towards the audible stuff
it is really daunting tasking for me especially reading big topics such as economy, politics etc... fortunately, I love reading novel.. I read English novel to keep up my vocabs so it doesn't dissapear from my brain because English is not my first language
when reading you control the narrative more than watching a movie. it tends to be more creative but it's mentally demanding. in video games you control the narrative even more. but the narrative is always an aggressive one, so it's a more limited part of mental experience than what reading can bring.
The best way to make it as a habit, is to "take titration dose" of reading. Because still, you can't suddenly change your habit, you have to trick your brain to get use to it. Here's how it works: before you go to sleep, read for 10 minutes. Do it for a month, then the nexth month 11 minutes.. it keeps going, just adding +1 minutes after every month. After a while, now I read 30 minutes per day before sleep, and I feel something is not complete in a day if I don't read.

Thanx man...I started with non fiction, but it was hard, now am doing fiction + non fiction+ audiobooks, this really helps
I need this so bad. Too much on internet. Was told by my doctor to read books to build brain cells.
You can learn stuff or read stuff in internet though....
But yeah it can post as distraction...
Reading is exercise for your brain
@@hisakiasakura480 your opinion must be respected but read ''On the wisdom of life: Aphorisms" By Arthur Schopenhauer you can never find something like that on internet to change your life, its a philosophy btw
Great video. There's great utility in reading and it's no surprise many successful people are also avid readers!
I love reading since I was 4 years old. And I was inspired by my parents
I've discovered that whenever I see a movie that was a book adaptation then I make it a point to read the book first and discovered there was more to the story in the book then there was in the movie. For example 2001 A Space Odyssey had a lot more to the story than what you saw in the movie.
Always. They can only pack so much into a movie.
More details are in the book that you get to envision in your mind
Its one of my favorite books. It really explained the the first part of the movie involving the apes. Pretty cool. The ending was more intense as well.
I am a reader and I have podcasted the books. Thank you so much your sharing.
I read a book on how to build an audience and now I’m applying it to my TH-cam channel ‼️👍🏽
Good for you!
Please share the book
I think reading is quite difficult before, but I'm gonna to change my mindset! I really wanna to instil the habit of READING!📚
My 3 favorite books are Rocky Mountain Christmas by Johnstone, And Then There were None by Agatha Christie, and Code of the Samarai.
Yet we choose to watch why reading is good for us than reading about it 🤣🤣
Dont be fast to judge friend! Someone might decide to pickup a book after watching this vid
LMFAOOOO
@@marvineldon9284 Exactly!:)
Reading books makes you more interesting....
Today 16/8/22 I started to read a 1st page of my book .
Thanks too all positive comments.
Love this comment
Great video, thanks! I would only add that it’s important to read book from authors who speak a different language than yours. I think that reading a translation is still an awesome way to read a book in a different language. Having read for quite a while I feel like many books now are nothing more than tv shows or movies in written form and I think that is still ok, but you can get a lot more value from reading a book that was not mass marketed initially.
Proud that I'm from a family who don't read
And I turn out to love reading
There's a guy by the name of Stephen Krashen who talks about learning foreign languages through reading. I read short stories and novels in Spanish. I learned more Spanish through reading than trying to pick it up through hearing native Speakers speak and asking questions. If you want to learn a foreign language, reading is like putting a jetpack on your language learning. If you incorporate that with listening to native speakers, you can learn a lot in a matter of months. I truly think you could reach near native level within 5-10 years depending on if you need to learn a new script.
Reading also helps to increase empathy!
One of my resolutions for this year to read 20 books 📚

Thanks for good advice. Yes, reading improves our vocabulary n widen our knowledge. Thanks alot.👍
Collecting books to read and reading the books is two different things. And I am doing the former.
I READ AND TAKE NOTES ON WHAT I READ IT INGRAINS WHAT YOU ARE READING, AND IM GOING TO START AGAIN KEEPING A JOURNAL...
I read the bible during this looooong video. Reading a book on being concise would be my suggestion for the authors
Even God loves to read. Reading is good. It makes you smarter.
Matthew 4.
It is written.
Thanks for sharing.
Reading is so much fun!
A wise man once said 🦉
Reading is Fundamental 🌿 🤓 👓
Thanks so much for sharing with us😀.
"The foundation of learning is reading"
Read is like breathing for the body
I must be an alien.
And the brain 🧠
*Reading.
If I don t read, I suffer. That s a fact in my life. If I read l, I feel happy and calm. It s amazing yet a real fact.
Simply put, reading will change your life.
After reading Rich Dad, Poor Dad by R. Kiyosaki, my life has completely changed. It is true that one can chart a new course in their life by reading a book. Had i not read that, im sure I have a completely different mindset today.
Hello, you should check out millionaire fast lane by mj demaraco and unscripted . These books really changed the way I see things
Applied knowledge is power
I would imagine that similar statistics to the US one, would apply to adults here in the UK.
Stay till the end, super worth it!
readers are leaders📚☺️
I actually read The Hunger Games AFTER seeing the motion picture. Seeing the The Hunger Games on screen is actually what made me decide to read the books.
Here to convince myself to start reading habit in 2021. Hope gonna make it.
everyone is busy but everyone can manage their busyness also
I work with someone (actually this is the second guy I worked with) who said - "Books....books are stupid!".
Visual media promoting reading!Reading is steady stimulator where as visual media is lightning.
I started reading a few months back, I had never read before. It feels really good after reading your first book. I completed my first book in 3 months but time reduce with the next one.
Next time, I'll also make sure I'll read instead of watching a video to know the benefits of any think :p .
I love to read articles, news and books as well if its interest me.
Me too.
Yo thanks a lot for the video and thanks a lot once again because this channel lets me practice gratitude love you and I haven’t watched Game of thrones in my entire life i am in the 1% bracket
I haven’t watched it either. When people ask I have no idea what they are talking about. Lol 😂
Dear person reading this you deserve a round of applause!😃
Great video. Good information.
Very informative video.. Thank you.. 👍
it is really daunting tasking for me especially reading big topics such as economy, politics etc... fortunately, I love reading novel.. I read English novel to keep up my vocabs so it doesn't dissapear from my brain because English is not my first language
Excellent video
when reading you control the narrative more than watching a movie. it tends to be more creative but it's mentally demanding.
in video games you control the narrative even more. but the narrative is always an aggressive one, so it's a more limited part of mental experience than what reading can bring.
