Dude, you justifiably have PTSD from that crash. Rejoice because you are and have overcome so much. Low speed confidence on reduced traction will come.
Hello internet! Welcome to today's episode of Moddy Boots. It's great to see you working your way back - physically, mentally and emotionally. I keep thinking about the movie What About Bob? Baby steps back to riding. It's a process and you're making great progress. That exposed cut edge on top of the boots bugged me too. With a 3D printer, all problems suggest 3D printer solutions. Would you like me to 3D print a black rubbery TPU edge finish for your boot? If it was my boots, I'd have a U channel that slides over the top, half an inch tall, with a double row of holes every 3/8" to lace it to the top of the boot with heavy carpet thread. Tie a square knot inside every set of holes or two to prevent a single failure from unraveling everything. An awl should work for heavy fabric but you might need to drill holes for any plastic sections. Let me know how wide the inner gap should be to accommodate the boot thickness and the total circumference or diameter, or feel free to convey the design of your preference, and I'll get it shipped to you ASAP.
Your friend with the hiking boots is doing it right. I would put the lightest boot possible and put an rubber sleeve over it and call it a day. You only wear cumbersome ridding boots when you have a flesh leg to protect, not for looks. The easiest and lightest the gear, the faster you can enjoy the bike.
The difficulty of cutting this boot up makes for a great advertisement. Do you reckon you'd still have your foot if you were wearing these T7's at the time?
@@MotoGiant I don't wear a helmet because a bad crash would break my neck anyway. And loud pipers save lives. 😛 I bought a pair of MX boots soon after your crash (not a coincidence) but after wearing them around the house for a few seconds, I mostly convinced myself that the lack of mobility would cause me to wreck, in addition to making what is already a lot of work just riding into a lot more work. I have no doubt the boots would do a great job of protecting my lower legs but I'm not convinced they would improve my overall safety. I'm reluctantly leaning toward not wearing my new boots... for safety. :-(
@@Liberty4Ever same reason I did not wear my "safe" boots on my last adventure - discomfort, restriction of movement, etc. My issue is I am running low on feet now :)
@@MotoGiant - I saw where some Japanese scientists are working on a way to stimulate teeth buds to grow new teeth in people. Break a tooth? Stimulate a new one and your adult tooth falls out like a baby tooth as its replacement appears. Frogs can grow entire legs. Maybe humans can be coaxed to grow new legs too some day. Remember the movie Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, where McCoy was in a modern day hospital and treated an old woman who later excitedly claimed, "Doctor gave me a pill and I grew a new kidney!"
must be nice to be able to take you leg off to try on shoes! hahahahahaha! I think that Richard probably has the right idea but at the same time modifying a boot like your doing is probably better since I'm sure different thicknesses won't make things any easier. I'm sure you will find what works best for you. I haven't seen you throw in the towel yet.
@@MotoGiant lol a ural is a motorcycle. With a proper custom made boot it could fit perfect could get it made exactly how you want. But hey if you want to stick with cut up mx boots thats fine too. Just dont let them be the cause of the next crash.

All joking aside. You're doing a great job.
I'm not surprised you got this man, you're very resilient 👍.... I can't even imagine the mental n physical challenges you are having
buy some foam pipe insulation - the slit tube type - to slip on the thin metal part of your leg to fill out the top of your boot. Two dollar at depot.
Nice engineering, glad you’re feeling more comfortable!

I will make another (hidden) video for you this morning!
Richard isn't concerned with being stylish. Moto Giant has to be "stylin" when he's ridin'. Matching boots is a must.😊😊😊
I would say Richard is WAYYY more styling than me....but I enjoy walking on a level platform....and being sexy :)

Yeah, the boots are HEAVY.
@@MotoGiant The price was right though.
Attenbough was good but i think Julia Childs would be funnier. :)

Maybe....... Maybe it would have ripped my knee off?
@@MotoGiant, exactly the first thought that hit me! I believe with all my heart one of those truck or trailer tires got you.

Looks like you could have used a filet band saw for that job. An 18 tpi band would have been a good choice.
my fishing tool shop is sparse
@@MotoGiant But redneck engineering came through.
Might want to look into getting yourself a ural with a side car. Maybe a custom made pair of boots.
But, I like motorcycles? AND, my boots ARE custom, now?

😮 You'd better duct tape that it might fill up a water.
Seal with radiator hose or band clamp
Too bad you don’t know anyone with a band saw
