yup a good idea. u can do the albums and series consecutively so you can get a grasp of what went on with each era/album. u should start with their debut album if you’re going down that route! and there’s bonus content too aside from the deleted scenes 😊

Please know that the Korean ages are different to international age. JungKook was only 13 when he joined BigHit and 15 when they debuted. His parents lived in a city about 6 hours away from Seoul. All the guys came from areas outside of the capital. So the older boys really did raise the younger ones. Even getting them to school, feeding, etc fell to Jin.
Korean Age vs International Age - difference is 1-2 years depending on if their birthday has been....
Rule of thumb - if it's before their birthday - subtract 2 years to get international age. if it's after their birthday - subtract 1 year to get their international age.
When you are born you are considered 1 year old. Then on 01 Jan every year you add another year to your age, no matter what your birthdate is. ....
      EG: TaeHyung (V) born 30 Dec 95 ...... current International Age 26 (Korean Age 28). ... 2 years difference
So Tae born 30 Dec 95 is 1 year old, then on 01 Jan 96 he is 1 more year older (so they would say he is 2 years old, when we would say he is 2 days old.)
So he was considered 28 in Korea since 01 January, we would say he is 26 turning 27 in Dec.
EG: Hoseok (JHope) born 18 Feb 1994...... current International Age 27 (Korean Age 29)... .currently 2 years difference
He will turn 28 on 18 Feb - but will still be considered 29 in Korea (the difference is then only 1 year - until Jan 1 - then back to 2 years difference)
It's a different way of looking at age, from new years day - JHope is living his 29th year (since conception) - instead of - he will be turning 28 (since birth)....
EG: Jeongguk (JK) born 01 Sept 97...... current International Age 24 (Korean Age 26)... .2 years difference
He was considered 26 in Korea since January, even though we would say he's 24 turning 25 in Sept.
So JK started with BigHit in 2011 at 13, but he would say 15 in korean age.
At BTS debut on 13 Jun 13 JK was 15 in international age (17 in korean age)
International Age at Debut on 13June13 (Year and age became trainee)
      Jin - 20 (2011 - 18)
      Suga - 19 (2011 - 17)
      JHope - 19 (2011 - 17)
      RM - 18 (2010 - 15)
      Jimin - 17 (2012 - 16)
      V - 17 (2011 - 15)
      JK - 15 (2011 - 13)
In this series they are giving Korean ages so you will need to adjust.
      Hope that makes sense!!

I think you will enjoy this amazing series. Aneesa, the creator of The Rise of Bangtan is a OG Kpop fan and loved and followed BTS since pre-debut. She tries to give an overview of the KPop history for those who are not familiar with the industry. She uses clips from different video clips of other idols/journalists interviews to try to give a broader perspective of the industry. You have to understand that the way she had edited the content is to show how the industry works in South Korea and how BTS and Big Hit are different from the norm. It's sometimes very subtle how she shows the contrast. Her skill as a professional video editor really shines through. Amazing work! She doesn't try to interpret what "she thinks" BTS is trying to say, she just shows the viewers exactly what they said and shared about what their thoughts were at the time.
She also shared that BTS has been the light in her darkness for many years now. She also shared that she has been working on this series (her labor of love) for almost 4 years! She is taking viewer on a journey step-by-step from BTS' perspective not looking back on their days but living through them (with them). She edits their content to allow BTS to speak their thoughts, through their experiences at the time because BTS has been documenting themselves since BEFORE their debut, so there is A LOT of material to edit down to tell their story! She does all the editing and has a team of volunteers who does the translations. She posted Chapter 20 a couple of weeks ago, which is the beginning of the last season of The Rise of Bangtan. We don't know how many chapters there are left to this last season, but we appreciate every chapter she makes!

As you’re watching these, remember that when they say their ages they are talking about their Korean age* which is 1-2 years older than how you and I count (aka international age). The “just graduated from middle school” Jungkook was 15. Their international ages when BTS debuted in June 2013: Jin 20, Suga 20, J-hope 19, RM 18, Jimin 17, V 17, Jungkook 15. They all joined Big Hit at different times and their ages ranged from 13-18.
*Korean age: You’re 1 on the day you’re born and then turn 2 on January 1 (everyone advances on January 1). Taehyung aka V was born on December 30 so he was 2 days old and 2 years old at the same time.

I think the beginning of this series was meant to show the differences between Bighit ent and the other kpop companies and how they treat their artists. Bighit right off the bat was different because they gave BTS artistic freedom. Even for dance practices, they allocated the entire day just to practice and took out all other schedules, this was so smart because they honed their craft to a T and you can see their efforts right from debut that they never lacked in any aspect of their performances.

    • @barbaraburrell5618
      @barbaraburrell5618 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

THIS! Not only did Bighit give them artistic freedom, they encouraged them. They wrote off their 2 to 3 years of training as development expense and did not make them pay the company back for the teachers, equipment, etc. Unlike the other big 3 agencies in SK who would make the 'idols' pay those costs back , in addition to taking their percentage of the artists' earnings.

V was a secret member, he wasnt revealed until music video was out. Sometimes kpop companies do this kind of thing to hype the debut. It was a surprise for predebut fans and he was like secret weapon to attract fans cuz of his visual, duality (unlike his cute appearance his voice is really low) and his funny personality that was unique than others in humor sense.

30:50 when it comes to their personal dating life the answer is: we don't know. The only thing we know is that back in the day Bighit said they don't have a dating ban (a lot of companies have a dating ban.. that is also often broken, mostly relationships are swept under the rug). So honestly tomorrow any of the members could say: "hi, I just got married and have a kid on the way, love you" and no one would be too surprised.. which ACTUALLY happened with a few idols so this isnt a joke quote... fans often find out about relationships when the idols are already engaged/married with a baby on the way or recently born.
So yeah. I am personally happy we have zero knowlage of their dating history, because that means they have their privacy that a lot of western celebrities arent given

They've lived for almost 10 years now and their bond, friendship and camaraderie is really something else. They have learned to love and accept each others flaws and differences. They treat each other as family. Now they live in a huge house where they all equally own and share. Tho RM is their leader, Jin rules the house (being the eldest). Suga and Jin would cook most of the time for the members and the others would do their part in other household chores. I'm happy they get along pretty well. What I love in this group is whenever they performed they don't see each other as their competitor but wmthey do compete within themselve and do good. They don't have any jealousy at all as to who has got more lines in a song or exposure. They are more than happy and proud to each one's contribution in a production. You can see that they are genuinely happy as a group and sincere with their brotherhood.

Keep in mind usually when they say their ages it's their Korean age which is 1 or 2 years older than their actual age. So their ages when they debuted were Jin 20, Suga 20, J-Hope 19, RM 18, Jimin 17, V 17, and Jungkook 15. V was the 6th member to join BTS, actually Jimin was the last member. But they kept V as a secret member until they debuted, they never really specified why, some have said it's because they were afraid other companies would try to lure him to their company. V actually went to a an audition to support a friend and one of the staff members asked V to audition too. I heard he had to call his parents from the audition to get their permission to audition because he was underage.

It is so amazing how hard these guys worked and from such a young age. JK was only 13 when he started training. Jin, as the oldest in the group, could drive, so he drove JK to school everyday and picked him up and made his lunch. They really did help raise him - but they were so young themselves. It is fascinating how much they share with us.

You need to watch Run BTS show, you can see the funny and chaotic side of BTS. While in BTS Bon Voyage show you can see them in their international travels, how down to earth they are, what they does as a group while on travel, even tho they are now big artists. In their show In The Soop S1 & S2 you can see a more laid back BTS, it features more of their domesticated side. They are so humble. You can see their bond and how genuine they are towards each other.

  • @Mark-vj7zd
    @Mark-vj7zd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Bear in mind that when the members talk about how old they are they almost always use Korean age. For their international age you have to subtract one, or more usually two years. Jungkook was 13 (international) when he joined BigHit. When he said in the diary that he was 16 he was actually 15 (international), which was his age on debut, and he had been away from his family for two years. The other members quite literally raised him - which is why he has said that he sometimes feels like a synthesis of their characters. I would say that he has come into his own over the last three or four years.
Dating etc…. this is very tricky ground. They haven’t ever really talked about dating, except in very general terms (and that was early in their career) or defined their sexualities. Straight or gay shipping is common in K-pop fandoms, and sometimes can get out of hand, to the point of being genuinely dangerous for the supposed significant other of an idol. Same sex fan-service is a thing in the industry as a whole and it doesn’t help. It’s kinda odd because Korea is a pretty conservative society and homosexuality, while not illegal, is definitely not celebrated.
Jimin in particular struggled with the way he was perceived (he received death threats over his supposed ‘femininity’). He’s been much happier since he stopped trying to be hyper masculine. Since 2015/16 they have gradually (almost) eliminated gendering from their songs. Even when they use a word like ‘girl’ you can’t take it at face value because sometimes that will be because it works better in the structure - an example of this is their classic song ‘I Need U’, where the original lyric ‘I need you, friend’ was changed to ‘I need you, girl’ because it sounded more emphatic, or ‘Dimple’ which relies on the wordplay illegal/illegirl.

The one nice thing about going through this Rise of Bangtan Series is you kind of get to know the members, the music and their growth, their relationship the same way the ARMY did so it’s kind of nice to mix it in with listening to their albums in between. I’m looking forward to your reactions but feel free to take your time.
They are really cool and humble guys. even just recently there was a clip of them taking a car to the American Music Awards and one of the members mentioned how they aren’t celebrities. And people may laugh at that, because they’re one of the biggest bands in the world right now, but the thing is, is that they’re just not part of that celebrity culture. They don’t go to after parties after award ceremonies, they come back to their hotel and get on V LIVE and live stream with ARMY instead. They aren’t like any band that I’ve ever seen before, they don’t let that whole rockstar persona go to their heads. And tbh I don’t always blame celebrities for having an ego, because I don’t know that even I would be the same person if I got that rich and famous, so it’s beautiful to me to see the way that they are as such gracious and humble people today despite how big they really are.
    RE relationships:
The guys don’t really share their personal relationships publicly and if they are in any they keep it low key because none of us know if they are or aren’t. ARMY are really big on respecting their privacy, even to the point once back in 2019 when they were here in the US, they ate at a restaurant and the manager tweeted about it while they were still there in the building but ARMY got him to take the post down because it was a danger to their safety.
Also some of your questions about V will be answered next week.

33:35 I suck at years and remembering dates, so dates maybe aren't accurate but the order is: 1. RM joined in 2010, 2. Suga joined in 2011, 3. JHope joined 2011 around Christmas, 4. & 5. Jin and Jungkook, there is a debate on who exacly was first because they were only like 2 days apart. Jin says he visited the company two days before JK, but JK moved into the dorms first. 6. V joined. The last 7th was Jimin. I am pretty sure Jimin said he was only a trainee for 8 months, so he joined at the end of 2012.
V was a secret member PROBABLY as a way to make fans even more curious about him and to make him stand out and be interesting and different. (Jin & JK stood out as the oldest and youngest, RM & Suga as known underground rappers, and Jhope&Jimin as amazing dancers).

Who won't love a person who is very professional of his/her job? No one cares of their sexual orientation though. We are just happy to witness of their growing, living at the same era with them. The narrator did not say PSY "started it". He said PSY was the first to capture the attention of a global audience. And that's true. Before him K-pop was mostly consumed within Asian markets.
Seo Taiji is not hard to say. It rhymes with 'pot of tea'. And they didn't go away, they just broke up. Seo Taiji became a solo artist who still puts out music today, and one of The Boys founded YG Entertainment...
The talent show loss is a common scenario and part of a lot of people's story. Let's say Company X produced Superstar K. All the other companies are watching and waiting to see if the people they like don't win. And since part of the score is audience voting, the best often get eliminated. The voting public are not talent scouts, and don't always know how to spot potential. JK was only 13 when he was on that show, so he probably was not expected to go all the way. But the scouts could already see what he would become. They were probably celebrating his "loss" lol

No wonder why Suga and Rm are your favourites, they're the pillars or bts's music. They've openly spoke about how their relationship was kind of troubled at the very beginning, how they fought many times, which I think is absolutely normal being teenagers with such different personalities who suddenly have to share spaces and time. They (and I think the same process happened with all the seven of them) learned how solve their issues (bang pd did a great job teaching them about it) and to respect and love each other. The two of them have also a song called Respect where they speak about it. They love each other as a family and they learned how to do it day by day, that what makes bts special: their bond is true and it shows

I am sure they are not saints ( they are human) but they deserve a private life. There has not been any confirmation on any relationships or gender preference of the members - I am sure all true ARMY would support the guys regardless and want them all to find true love and happiness. BTS does not have a dating ban imposed by their agency - they are allowed to date if they chose. Some idols have a clause forbidding dating in their contracts. Even dating rumours can be problematic for idols.

Fun facts: Suga's nickname comes from shooting guard. He also was told he wouldn't have to dance. Jin was approached twice to audition but wanted to be an actor & was in college. JK had many companies offer him deals but he went with Big Hit because he thought RM was cool! 😆 which IS true...

RM is my bias but when I first started getting into BTS (just back in September) I thought that his hairstyle in 2013 was silly.
But then I read a post that put it all in perspective. RM became a trainee at 16 years old, knowing that he was the first member of the group. He stayed even as his friends/fellow rappers came and left, some of whom made fun of him and rejected him for staying. After that, he had to build up the team dynamic as new people came as trainees with different abilities, interests, and experience. Over his years as a trainee, he learned not only other skills that he would need, like dancing, but he and the others worked to create their own vision of what they wanted to be and the music they wanted to share to connect with the world.
At just 19 years old, he debuted as the leader of a group who looked to him for leadership in situations none of them had ever faced. He debuted knowing that not only his future, but that of his friends, rested on him in many ways. He also debuted knowing that Big Hit was a small company with limited finances and wouldn’t be able to support them if they didn’t do well. There likely wasn’t a back up plan. And finally, while all of the members are technically colleagues as well as friends (which can change the way some people interact), RM had the added barrier of also being the leader. I beleive it was JHope who stated once that he never feels 100% comfortable with RM despite calling him his best friend, because a small part of him also respects RM as the leader he is and the role he has. RM is intelligent in many ways, and his emotional intelligence is one of them. I’m sure it is something he was/is very well aware of.
The post concluded by saying that if having his hair in a Mohawk and wearing sunglasses made RM feel comfortable, we should all embrace him. With everything else he had going on at 19 years old, how much does his hair actually matter? From then on, I adore 2013 RM because he did what he had to do and he did it in his own way, Mohawk and all.
Sorry this was such a long post. It’s just something I think about a lot when I see RM and read his lyrics. ARMY, please let me know if anything I said was wrong and I will correct it: I’m writing this based on memory.

Finally got a chance (away from ‘adulting’) to watch the beginnings of your reviews of the Awesome “The Rise of Bangtan” series! TYSM for your time n efforts! Ok! Commenting as I watch!
    1. Yeah, most companies put their trainees thru hell. Mr Bang (Founder of BTS & Big Hit) took a different route!
    2. Of course BTS members have girl friends! We Are talkin to you aren’t we?! Yaaah! :]
    3. Bangtan’s phenomenal resolve, grew their strength, work ethic, and single minded purpose, overcoming set backs, godawful treatment from local media etc,… Sometimes, literally~ through their own blood, sweat, and tears,.. and to always rise again!

a great approach is to do a full album reaction to each album they are working on during the timeline of the Rise of Bangtan series so that you can mirror where they are (as people/artists) to the music of that era of their music. It gives you a full picture of their growth and development as young men and artists through the clips and music together.

Something to mention about the ages of the members and how age is determined in Korea is that their ages are not calculated the same as ours. There is the "international age" which is how we do it (ie. you become one year old after you have been on this earth for 1 year after birth) and "Korean age" which is how they do it (and they often will specify which they are referring to...if not it is often the Korean age they are referring to). The difference is this: In Korea, the day that you are born marks your 1st year of life (ie you are 1 year old, even as a newborn). So, lets say you are born on Dec 31...on Dec 31st you are 1 year old but JAN 1 marks year 2 (everyone moves up 1 year at each new year) so now a 2 day old baby could actually be considered 2 years old. So when you have a Korean say they are 15 they may ACTUALLY be 13 (international age) depending on when their birthday falls. Example: JK was 13 when he became a trainee and moved to Seoul into the dorms with the other guys (actual international age) and 15 yrs old when they debuted. So, if you hear that he was 15 when he joined and 17 at debut that would also be correct in Korean age since it is calculated differently. So anytime you hear a Korean talk about age keep in mind that they may be as much as 2 years younger than the stated age. That is also why they often refer to themselves in terms of the year they were born...EX: "the 95ers" or "95-line" or just "95's" etc to designate the year they were born.

One big thing about this first chapter is that they are trying to show the contrast between big hit and the other entertainment agencies(the big 3)…although bts still had to go thru a ton of training for years and still had to deal with a lot, bang pd and big hit weren’t as strict- they gave bts members much more artistic freedoms and with a lot less money.
Imo these chapters get increasingly better so I hope you’ll stick with it. There’s so much material that’s straight from them, so amazing.

  • @cmdlr2575
    @cmdlr2575 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Unfortunately all the bts members had to go without their families since a very young age because they had to move from their provinces into the city of Seoul for training. The members have talked many times before (in their music and interviews) about losing their youth. It’s really sad to think about, but they have also mentioned that that’s the price they paid for reaching their dream.
They all love their blood families, but they had to find a new family in BTS. They have also talked about how all the members are closer to each other and know each other better than their families do. They had to take care of each other when living together in the city. The oldest members took on the responsibility of part time jobs while both going through training and highschool/college. Jin (the oldest member), would often drive Jungkook to school every morning and make sure all the other members were taken care of and made dinner for them. Suga (the 2nd oldest member) would often chip in his money to buy food for them, and even then, sometimes food was scarce and so he would skip meals in order to feed the young’ins instead of himself.
I think it’s learning little things like this, that lets fan’s see why they are so humble and makes us love them even more. Fans also quickly fall in love with their bond, which is something most people wish they had, especially in the western world where our culture favors individualism instead of collectivism

  • @ruthfischer7615

JK is from Busan (like Jimin) which is the second biggest city in the country but on the other end of SK from Seoul. Seoul is really expensive... so his family didn't move (and he has an older brother so there was that, too). They also payed a lot for the school JK went to.
The creation of BTS is somewhat chaotic as they were first to be a Hiphop group created around RM. But those people left. With the competition came Suga who had heard of RM in the Underground circles. On Xmas Eve 2010 Hobi moved in. At that time there were only Rappers in the group. But when Big Hit looked at their finaces they came to the conclusion that the only way to go was the founding of an Idol group and not a Hiphop group. They lost more trainees. Now we get the vocal line coming in: JK (one of the companies asking him to join was JYP - one of the Big 3)and Jin (who was studying at an an exclusive acting school where he was an early admission) were taken in at almost the same time. Months later Tae followed after being asked to audition when he wanted to see if a friend had made it. In 2012 Jimin made the auditions. He was the closesed to be thrown out (multiple times). He must have slept only 2-3 hours a day (he had school with Tae). When the last non-debut member was let go Jin hadn't quiet moved in and Jimin, Tae and JK were sleeping on the floor (the label had no money). The reality of being a trainee in a small company. I think after they moved to a slightly bigger room: 3 bunk beds and JK's mattress.
Hiding V was a marketing strategy. They needed as much material as they could get so people would talk about them and they wouldn't have to disband. Mr. Bang thought V with his charm would take the fans they already had on his side soon, too.
What you should not forget that that number of fans was pre-debut. No one knew where they would be going with their first official music, yet. And if I remember correctly there are over 60 million subs on their youtube channel... upper guesses for Army are at over 200 million worldwide.
JK was protected by the other members. Jin bought banana milk for him and made & packed his lunch for school (Suga and Jin also drove JK to school). Suga worked part time and Jin went to acting school. JK says that he became who he is through being around the others members who kind of raised him.
    Borahae! 💜

I reckon one giant takeaway from the Rise of Bangtan series as well is to think about how BTS is a band that would inspire a single fan so much to edit these ridiculously good videos together for no profit, and how Hybe doesn't try to take them down - like where else can you find fans that will put this much effort in to promote the story of anything and have the owners etc not try to ruin it

Just a thought, although it’s good to watch these documentaries, you should dive into their music first because this is like a shortcut. And sometimes, whether you’re conscious or not, you are being heavily influenced by the own perspective of the creator. You should have your own view of BTS. Just like when I was first starting to get into them, there were no documentaries like these before. I focused on listening to their music, watching dance practices and even watching their own variety shows. I think you should prioritize their official contents to get a better view of them because this has also been a problem to other reactors before. There’s an unofficial introduction video that categorized them into a single personality. Like saying Suga is a cold person and the members are scared of him. When that’s not true at all. And everyone is having that misconception of him because of that video.
BTS has so many great music and I would love for you to react on their albums and music videos! Then, you can dive into their other official content if you want. Still, I appreciate you being open minded with your reactions and getting into them.

Also keep in mind that they were all 1-2 years younger than they stated in this video. In Korea you are considered 1 year old the moment you're born and then no matter when your actual birthday falls, you are 1 year older on Jan. 1 of each year. So for instance, Jin was born 12/4/92 so though he doesn't actually turn 30 until 12/4 of this year, he's been considered 30 since 1/1/21 and now is considered 31 in Korean years.

This is really THE thing to watch to get to know bts. I have become jaded towards videos that give the author’s speaking narration/commentary because those have birthed countless misinformation and just plain annoying mischaracterization of the members. I really love that Aneesa the editor of the series decided to let BTS and people seeing them to speak for themselves.
It’s I think important to be aware of how some episodes have a thematic background and how she uses contrast of BTS vs what other industry people/other people have experiences and think. With critical thinking and paying attention I don’t think you’ll have problems truly *getting* it though.
I think it might be fun for you to listen to the albums in order as they go in the show actually? This first episode doesn’t show their debut yet so maybe I’d watch 2nd episode and then check 2 cool 4 skool album. Maybe later down the line you’d want some army to pick away the pop songs (? not sure, but that’s my impression that you’d probably just better skip the genres that you just fundamentally don’t enjoy, although who knows BTS even rapline who write/compose/produce pop genres too, might make you more open down the line, and ofc if you can just,,,listen to their pop music just for the lyrics as well.) but for the early albums theyre mostly rap-heavy hiphop and rnb so you might just wanna listen to the albums as theyre pretty short anyway.

I wouldn't be surprised if at least a couple of them have been/are in a serious relationship. The whole "they don't have time for that" thing doesn't land for me. They have families (of which there are almost no pictures/video of), but they exist obviously. They have also maintained long-term friendships with people both in an outside of the industry, so we know they are capable of being in relationships. Also, with the size of the crew they are around, it would be quite easy for a significant other to blend in, particularly since the staff's faces are blurred. And finally, I suspect they have more downtime/ time in place than we're let on. Of course they have their busy times, but I feel that with COVID, and quarantine in Seoul, and things being able to be pre-recorded (and the ability to pre record multiple things in the same time-frame, but released slowly), they can have a romantic relationship for now, at home in Seoul.
But whether they are single or not, I hope they are happy and surrounded by authentic love always.

    • @coomacp9194

I agree. I mean they would not be as busy now as their pre debut and early years. And as busy as they may be they are still human. Non celebrities /idols have busy jobs with long hours, but still have relationship etc. It totally makes sense to me that they would tell a white lie that they are not in a relationship or don't have time for one just to actually maintain their privacy - where is the benefit to them or their partner in admitting they are in a relationship or dating. I mean I guess it's a price you pay being a celebrity but I wish interviewers, reporters etc would not ask questions about that and let them have their privacy. Its no one elses business and has nothing to do with their job as singers / rappers, same as any celebrity 🙄
Whatever the case is, I hope they are able to maintain their privacy and respect when they need it and that they are happy. 🙂
I believe that a lot of ARMYS are respectful but it seems many are not. This is why I hate disgusting TH-cam channels like that Dave Disci Vlogs. Seems he claims to be an ARMY, but if you were a true fan you shouldn't be making the kind of videos he does which are very much click bait, but also help to spread toxic fan behaviour and encourages fans to disrespect artists privacy. You are correct that V was the secret weapon. The real reason why Bang Si Hyuk (Founder of Big Hit) said in a Rolling Stone interview that V was a hidden member because they felt BTS needed momentum to announce that the team called BTS was finally complete. V had great charms in terms of appearance and personality, so he thought it would be impactful when he was revealed last. It was an effective strategy in forming the team's overall image, as well as leaving an impression of each member.

Edit: * When I mention "no dating" being written into contracts, I was going off of things I heard from various sources. I'm not going to do any in depth research at this moment, but if it is untrue, please disregard. I do try not to make comments that I haven't verified, but I'd seen it enough places that I assumed it was a universally known thing. If it is incorrect, I apologize. *
You asked about girlfriends/wives. When asked that question, BTS usually deflects or say they don't have time to date (which could actually be true...I mean they didn't get to be with their families for the holidays since their debut until this past year). There is not even anything officially stated about their preferences in dating (girls, guys, etc), although there has been LOTS of speculation and a few possible hints dropped by one or two of them. Kpop artists are pretty much expected not to date.... it's like they are supposed to belong to the fans. Most companies even write no dating into the contracts. Big Hit did NOT do that with BTS. However, due to the craziness of Kpop culture, if they have dated, they've kept it tightly under wraps. Rumors float around over the stupidest things like "A BTS member was standing next to at an award show and they smiled at each other. They must be dating!" or "A BTS member wore something really similar to just two days apart and posted it. It's a secret hint that they're dating". The problem with this is that even those who have just been rumored to date one of the boys, have sometimes received death threats... because some of the really crazy fans literally think BTS belongs to the fans (or to them personally). So... yeah... they might be dating (RM has even been rumored to be married), but we'll likely never know unless they make an official announcement. And most armys feel it's best to let them keep their private life private until they're ready to share.

And the only thing I've ever seen them say is that they are too busy (or tired) to date or they deflected away from the question. Which I take to mean... they want to keep their love life (existent or otherwise) private. But, yes... it would be weird if they weren't dating, but not necessarily impossible.

if you noticed V was missing and there was only 6. Big Hit Entertainment hid him as they were afraid other agencies will scout V (steal him). it is a well known fact for armys.

I'm confused why anyone would have said This is BTS by XCeleste was not the up to date version, maybe they just meant some details aren't up to date. 🤔
If you look it up you will see there is only one version and it is from August 2020.
For the most part I think it's made in a way that it can't be outdated as it contains facts and some clips but there is a little bit of outdated references. Eg. I think it does refer to their 'last album' as Map of the Soul 7 which is not their last album anymore, since BE was released in November 2020.
Ida S's video introduction to the 7 has a 2021 updated version so perhaps this is what was being referred to. 🤔
Anyway my vote is still for you to watch her video to know each member better even with watching Rise of Bangtan. Just make sure it is the 2021 version as per the name below.
An introduction to the 7 members of BTS (2021 update)
As a reminder the other xCeleste videos are:
This is BTS ARMY | Introduction to BTS fans
BTS HARDSHIPS 2013-2021 | Racism, mistreatment, accusations + more | Struggles throughout the years.
I'm sure you'll really enjoy This is BTS ARMY Introduction but the hardships video is hard to watch and makes you angry and it covers hardships over periods of time. You will get to see some of the hardships in The Rise of Bangtan as well. Honestly in my opinion I would leave hardships video till much later, you still need to really get to know them more before going into all that as it is really a lot.

I was one of the many people who recommended the documentary series. They're so good that I just wish each episode could be longer.

I absolutely love this series!! It gives context on the situation/condition BTS were in during a certain "era" and how it affected their music and mindset. Then, as the series progresses, you really see their growth as artists and as people, the message they were trying to convey, the self reflection and realization. You can literally see the Rise of Bangtan, like you're in a journey with them. I cannot stress just how much I love this! Thank you for reacting to it. I hope you'll understand BTS more as you watch further. 💜

@DestructiveMedia There are major differences in the way Bang PD and his Big Hit company approached "raising" / "creating" BTS compared to how all the other "big" S. Korean music label companies. Bang PD's philosophy (and the motto of Big Hit Entertainment): Music and Artists for Healing. Bang PD talks about how as a young man, he experienced his "aha" moment when watching Live Aid. He saw musicians from different countries and cultures, singing in different languages all together - all for a good cause - to heal a part of humanity that was in great need. That established his philosophy and that is what he infused in the BTS members from the very beginning. Also, his approach to how he mentored and guided them: they were not "manufactured". They were given freedom (within a structure so they wouldn't lose their way and develop bad habits - like drugs, alcohol, etc.) - freedom to develop and grow, freedom to enhance their natural talents. They had to have a structure though because as you can see, in the beginning they were all very young, living away from their families and ultimately - Bang PD was responsible for them. He wanted to develop a group that was authentic, yes were profitable, but that prioritized music and storytelling with a goal of helping others, conscientious musicians; and that is what we have in all 7 of the BTS members today. That's what makes BTS so unique and why they resonate with so many people of all different ages.
