  • We test the Dodge Durango, Ford Flex EcoBoost, and Honda Pilot to see how different large crossovers can be.
    So: a wagon-like Ford, a car-based Honda, and a truck-based Dodge? Yeah, that's pretty different.

I couldn't have said it better my self. You hit the nail on the head, as I get the same thing with my Flex.
People hate, I make them drive and people envy. :)
This is by far, the nicest driving 7 seater ever in my opinion, and one of the nicest driving vehicles on the road.
As you can tell, I also love my Flex.

13 years of mini van ownership...migrating to cross over and just purchased Flex AWD with eco boost. Very nice ride, power when needed, low height for ease of entry for grandparents and modern styling. Love the sun roof and sky lights in rear. I wish this was available 13 years ago :)

    • @johnmartin560
      @johnmartin560 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@@romangod18There's probably a boost leak somewhere then because they are not slow.. I just bought a 2013, and it was quick, but not fast. After digging into it a bit I found that the o-ring on the charge temperature sensor by the throttle body was broken when it was first installed at the factory. No check engine light, and no signs of a problem other than lower power output. I replaced the o-ring, and tightened a few clamps here, and there, and now it's a rocket..

2013 fully loaded Flex with Eco boost, just took it for a day long drive up in the sierras. This is an awesome car, I can haul ass with 5 people in it hanging corners like a sport car, and this thing is a lot of fun! Tons of power and hangs corners like it on rails without breaking traction with full control. Ford did a great job with this Flex so appropriately named to. The name says it all very flexible and what family car with this much room has this much power and capability..Thanks Ford!

I've owned my Flex fir going on 8 years. Hands down, best car I've ever owned, period and I've been driving for over 45 years. I can tow two Electraglides on a trailer and all my riding gear and still have enough room for a pile of camping gear and beer. You just need to take one long trip in this car and you're sold. Oh, BTW, $39.5K Brand New, out the door Ecoboost, AWD, leather interior, 5K lb tow package, giant moon roof. Love the car!

I have been reading the reviews on several sites and everyone has glowing positive reviews just like yours. I plan to tow a camper and also a kayak carrier (not at the same time) and this looks like a winner. People say it runs well with no maintenance problems which is what I read between the lines of your 8 years of ownership.

Imo the ford flex is better then the ford explorer as the flex handles better by aerodynamics and the flex is quicker as well, we have the 2011 Dodge Durango as it was 50k out the door which was pricy but at the time the most luxurious interior in it’s class and the comfort is a good balance, the durango was a pretty safe suv with different safety features etc, the v8 hemi was a sleeper as it beats every suv i have raced against and it’s good when going through the hills and mountains and the handling is A+ as it can hang with some Mercedes E550 around corners, and gas mileage isn’t bad especially for being a v8.

@@coolsquad7428 we sold the Flex to buy an F250. The camper we wanted was just too big for the flex. The truck does the job easily but I've never owned a more versatile car than the Flex. The only car I've ever owned where seven adults can ride comfortably.

I have been a huge fan of Explorers since they debuted and have owned 3 (well, two and one Mountaineer). The fifth gen Explorer is not true to it's roots and is less a family vehicle and more a soccer-mom run-around. The Flex is a throwback to the Chevy Nomad in styling and has all of the comforts of a Yukon (weird I am using Chevy as the base for my argument here) - but it is such an incredible family vehicle. Love the Flex.

My wife and I just ordered our 4th flex, my original flex a 2009 had 552,000km, we just had to scrap it due to my wife hitting an animal with it...
in two weeks both my wife and I will each have a Flex, I regret nothing of them, so much so that my buddies all have 1.
I dont have kids, its just my wife and I... Along with Charm, our doggo. So a disclaimer, i have only ridden in the back once, when we purchased the last one (limited) to see road noise etc.
second disclaimer, my first one was an SEL, the other three, limiteds, and the one that is about to be traded in had some mods, lasted 237000 km with 550hp at the wheels with no issues.
just remeber, if you get the big boys, eg srt hemi, and ecoboost engines, you will drive them hard, whether or not you intend to... you will.

Looking to do the same. The one thing I note from reading reviews on Edmunds and Cars.com is that Flex owners absolutely love their vehicles and many have purchased two and one person three in a row. That is a pretty good testament and the owner ratings are the highest I have seen on any car. While Ford seems to plan to discontinue the Flex the engine and guts are on many other cars so I don't worry too much about servicing in the future.

Today I just got the 2014 Toyota Highlander XLE model (sunroof and leather).
Awesome! This accelerates soo fast (3.5 L engine) and smoothly because it has 6
speeds that 80mph feels like 55mph.
    PROS:
    - Beautiful shoreline blue pearl color
    - Voice activated commands for dialing a phone, playing a song, etc.
    - Double wishbone rear suspension means better handling and 3 inch wider interior in
3rd row. We hardly felt speed bumps.
    - Shelf for cellphone, Bluetooth, hands-free
    - BIG 8inch GPS screen and backup camera and apps like Accuweather, etc.
    - side mirrors have turn light blinkers
    - Sexy styling (looks a little like Jeep Cherokee and BMW X5) with chrome accents on
the roofline. Integrated rear spoiler. The door's body tapers in toward the glass
window as opposed to the usual boring glass and body flushed against each other.
    - 11 airbags (includes driver's knee)
    - traction control, stability control, ABS
    - sliding 2nd row seat makes it easy to get to the 3rd row
    - 3 ac outlets and a 110V outlet
    - Small turning radius of 38.7 feet
    - BIG 245/60/18 tires
    - Auto dimming rearview mirror
    - Easy Driver Speak to amplify driver's voice to the rear passengers
    - 3 zones a/c system and controllable by 2nd row passengers
    - Fog lights
    - Daytime running lights
    - Rear glass on the tailgate opens
    - 1 push window down for BOTH driver and passenger
    - Power tailgate
    - Push button start
    - sunshades in the 2nd row
    - garage homelink
    - heated side mirrors
    - heated seats (I live where it's hot so I don't really care about this)
    - windshield wiper deicer (I live where it's hot so I don't really care about this
    - 24 months free Toyota maintenance like oil changes and tire rotations.
    - Toyota has the highest resale value
    - Toyota reliability
    CONS:
    - Tailights are not LED.
    - White LED light in front is only in higher models like LIMITED.
    CONCLUSION: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Flex is not for everyone, but when called to the task it offers great roominess, easy enter and exit, great visibility-turn around those back windows are huge and level with front door window line. And finally the last but not the least- Value! Do your research.

NOT! Even though he flex has a smaller tank, omg the gas is not a drinker, it is a slow drinker like one drop every 3 hours! Just saying but my list for cars are:3. Dodge, 2. Honda, 1. Ford Flex!

It seems to be acceptable to drive super ugly cars now a days because that's all I see people in. I see guys driving their family around proudly in a girly looking Hyundai Santa Fe or Sorento all the time. What's the point of Ecoboost when all family men drive slow as hell?

_ Kass I agree with you on your comment.
The only thing I would say is; did you try the Flex SEL or the Limited?
They actually drive very different, as the Ltd has bigger and more sporty wheels, along with an upgraded suspension from the SE or SEL.
I'm not saying it's better than the Dodge. Just if you haven't tried the Ltd. I would give it a go, as it is a fun sporty drive. (Even though it's a wagon)

      No.....it's not
The Flex rides on a modified version of the Freestyle/Taurus X platform.......referred to internally as the D4 platform. The Explorer (which came 2 years after the Flex) uses the same D4 platform.
And they're not incorrect on the Honda Pilot platform either as the Accord and Odyssey share the same platform

But being someone who owns a Flex (hurst lol) the styling grows on you a bit.
But the main thing is, you have to drive one. You'll fall in love with it.
