This seemed rigged against the Ford from the beginning. The Mazda looks like every other SUV (or whatever they're called now) in the market. I don't have either vehicle, although I am considering both for my next purchase. I'm leaning toward the Flex with Eco boost.
The Flex is a great vehicle, handles the highway so nice on long trips. It's low, wide and stable. Not to mention it's a cool looking vehicle. It's like a retro station wagon. Plus they are locally assembled not an import. You are providing work for Americans and Canadians. : )
This seems somewhat biased. I have a Ford Flex and it's awesome! The second row seats do in fact scoot forward and backwards. A lot in fact! about a foot to be exact! And the car has plenty of space if you know how to pack things. After all, it is a 17 foot long car! and finally, at the end of this video, he says something about the car not revving high and being somewhat slow... Well, my flex has plenty of power and speed for a 5000lb car. And as far as modern goes, NOTHING else looks like it!
Ford Flex looks cooler, gives more cool features, has more interior room,is more luxurious, more quiet smooth ride, has a more powerful engine than the Mazda
BUT, the Mazda is MORE reliable, if it matters to you. Japanese vehicles are GENERALLY less troublesome, Toyota, Honda, Mazda are at the top of the most reliable vehicle list. Ford, not so much, they have slipped quite a bit in recent years.
It's worth pointing out that the Flex is available with captains chairs in the second row, and these *are* sliding. It looked like you only needed a couple inches, and the flex has 4.5 inches more rear legroom than the CX-9. You could have fit that stuff in a Flex (granted, in 4-passenger configuration) while still having more leg room than a CX-9 in an actual usable configuration.
They are doing something wrong. Especially sleeping in the back. I put a fridge in the back of my mkT and that's with a sloped roof. The Flex is a damn box. So yeah, this had to be biased.
you do an unfair job of not mentioning the important powerfold 3rd row of the Flex, now everyone thinks it's difficult to fold the seats. As a U.K resident of never having anything like it before, when I recently went to the U.S my hire car was a Flex and the seats were easy to handle first time.
if you realized that they cheated with the mazda, then how did that waste your time? you came out of it realizing your own truth from their deception tactics. that is not a waste of time.
Max towing capacity on the Mazda with tow package is 3500 lb max towing on the flex is 4500 lbs plus as people have said the middle chairs do move just saying
To me this flex is a better looking car but the Mazda seems more practical for moving stuff. On a side note when I got my wife her 08 KIA Rondo I was pleasantly surprised out how much cargo room and the storage features they put in such a tiny car.
i have a 2012 flex and the 2nd row seats do move backward and forward.. i find it very unlikely that the newer models wouldn't do it,seeing how that is a very big selling point..
Really not informative at all. The Flex and CX9 are pretty different vehicles and the seat configuration they showed for the Flex was impractical. Seemed more like a commercial for the Mazda and the "tests" were silly.
If you are going to effectively render the second row unusable, what is the point of this exercise? Either both rows or stow the last on in a fashion that leaves the remaining one useful.
The Flex is the better vehicle with a small built in cooler in the back row...Also, equipped with Ecoboost, which = 365hp and all wheel drive... I've driven both and the best road car is the Flex!! However, the best sedan for the road is the Audi S8, that is another story!! Just wanted to share!

The funny thing is that the SIMPLE instructions to put the back seats down on the Flex are in very visible lettering at the bottom of both seats. It takes an adult of average intelligence about 20 seconds to figure it out. Either these guys are that dumb, or they are being paid off. Either way they just gained a thumbs down, and an unsubscribe from yours truly.
As usual, GREAT review. I would like to see more of these - how much can you squeeze in the trunk type reveiws. Especially for hatchbacks and other SUV's. Keep up the great work.
So much positive reviews for the flex, I wonder if the same people would feel the same way if they knew the internal structure and overall mechanical capabilities of each. Would never get a ford, ever.
Nice video review. I would like to see a similar review. Taking your old SUV vs a modern one. For example, I own a Land Rover disco 1, put that against perhaps a ford explorer or something within the average budget for a modern yet economic SUV. Keep up the great vids! Cheers!
why didntt you take out the 2nd cooler, then put the smaller cooler ontop of the cooler in the front, then put the wnd cooler back in and continue loading
It does they obviously don't know how to work the vehicles features. The second row seats slides forward and without loosing any leg room. Also the guys were laying the wrong way, their heads were supposed to be by the second row dors and feet by the tail gate and their legs wouldn't go up. The 3rd row of seats also comes with an auto fold option, to fold seats with 0 effort. Very bias video.
Why didn't they instead sleep with their heads on the elevated part? might not be comfortable to have raised legs, but it's fine with a raised head. Only reason I can figure they did it like that is because it wouldn't be as easy to film.
hey greetings from germany great video i love the ford flex but in germany i can find no information about htis car can you mak information video of the ford flex please
There is no suck thing as ecoboost for Mazda. Mazda and Ford have cut ties because Ford wanted to go ecoboost and Mazda wanted to go skyactiv. The thing about the CX-9 is that it still offers the 3.7L V6 which is a Ford/Mazda collaboration engine.
Butt , if you watched a little bit more it said the Mazda had 17% more space than the flex. But yeah Mazda is way better and it's reliable , and as a high school graduate I need a 7 seater crossover instead of a 4 door sedan.
Any engine (large or small) benefits by allowing freer flow exhaust. Remember an ICE is really a heat pump. The quicker you get rid of the hot exhaust the more power is produced.
thanks guys, this was a very good test/review in my opinion. im thinking of living in a car for a while. and this clears alot of questions without going to the dealership
The Flex borrows the interior design from the Ford Freestyle (remember those ?). The Freestyle used a "Halidex coupler" for the AWD system and also had a Volvo platform.
CX9 of course, looks much better than flex, more space and comfortable. Try to search for Cx9 acceleration videos it takes approximately 7.5secs from 0-100
Better then what ? Look same like other Mazdas CX-5, CX-3, CX-7, almost like small Honada HRV. Flex is different thats why its cool ! I have MKX but always dream about FLEX but is really hard to get one in Europe.
@@ekosystemy The Flex front end resembles late model Chevy pickups, which IMHO are the best looking pickups. The rest of the Flex resembles a pickup with a permanent topper.

Doesn't matter Ford Flex looks super cool and offers twin turbo very good awd and day to day more practical.
Who takes that many coolers camping?
People that drink alot of beer!
They can allways go to shop ;_)
I know right, you only need one drink cooler and one food cooler. You keep the extra beer in the cases and just fill the cooler as you need it.
The Flex does have the option of the 3.5L V6 Ecoboost engine. My friend has one.
The Ford Flex is better
Still, I would prefer the flex. Looks like Nathan got bigger since 2013?

This is literally the worst packing I’ve seen in a long time...
I’d rather let my kids toss everything we need in for better results....
There is also a lesson to be learned here. If you want to camp, get a camper.
My flex seats fold totally flat and it has massive space. You can sleep in it very comfortably. My year is 2010 so maybe it was different in 13.

Hello romanmicagearguy...When are you going to review Mazda 6 2014 ??
more premium, great for engine sound, styling. it doesent essentially help preformance much but its easy flow on the engine and makes for good sound.
A 2016 Flex has a very inefficient cargo design for packing some things. The width is only 41 inches until you get over 8 inches off the floor.
