X2 varies in roughness far, far more than any other coaster in the world. I'm *not kidding* when I say it can be either the roughest coaster I've ever ridden or smoother than Scream depending on the circumstances. As for how to get smoother rides (and the reasoning behind it):
The wing-style seating naturally means that the riders farther from the track will experience more bumps. This should make sense intuitively; any imperfections in the track will be magnified the farther away you are- of which X2 has a lot, because, y'know, Arrow. :/
It's rougher the further back in the train you are, just like many other coasters; more jerk puts more strain on the trains which makes the ride rougher. This affects X2 even more than the average coaster because of the mechanisms in the train also getting strained.
Full trains will be much smoother, simply because a train with more momentum will resist being jolted more. Conversely, a train that's nearly empty will jackhammer significantly more and beat the everloving crap out of you.
X2 has 2 different trains, aptly named Train 1 and Train 2 (it actually has 3, but Train 3 hasn't been assembled in many, many years). From what I've heard from maintenance workers at Magic Mountain, Train 1 is significantly smoother than Train 2-likely because whenever X2 is running one train, they use Train 2. So, if you see X2 only running one train, it *will* be rougher if everything else is equal. If it's running both, there's a 50/50 chance that you'll have a much smoother ride, all other factors equal.
And finally: sometimes X2 is just grumpy. The trains are so mechanically complex that they just are rougher occasionally for no discernible reason. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think an option to add 4 across surf coaster trains with the suspension on the seats to standups would be a great option for parks keeping the first time draw and uniqueness for the gp whilst simultaneously making it more enjoyable for everyone.
Yea that would actually help a lot. I don’t know if it would revitalize the standing though, the appeal of standing up on a coaster is nonexistent these days, that’s why I think the surf coaster is gonna be a dud.

I rode X2 on the left side in row 2 inside seat and it wasn’t too rough. I really enjoyed my ride in that seat and that made me think that it was the best in the park. However I rode it in the left side row 5 inside seat and I got a headache. It was mainly from the final turn into the brake run but it was shaking like crazy. But I would suggest left side row 2 inside seat if you are not a fan of roughness.

fun fact, my first time at magic mountain, I went the whole first half of the day without taking off my glasses, and they broke when I went on riddlers revenge so I went the rest of the day without being able to see 10 feet ahead of me.

Viper front row no rattle no headbanging just beautiful and graceful and extremely intense on the loops. I found that when I ride it, I don’t get head banging left or right into the harnesses. If anything I hit my head on the seat back during the third loop. It must ride different for everybody depending on their height but for me my shoulders are not going anywhere and those are strange. I’m 5 foot 11
I haven’t ridden viper in the front row yet, interesting I’ll try it. Though I wouldn’t say there was any head banging in the back rows (I’m taller than the restraint) but even the rattle is a turn off for me 😅
For me Tatsu is easily the most intense because the entire ride is on the same level of intensity as Scream or Riddler for me but then you get the pretzel loop. Sorry for the run-on sentence. I enjoyed the ranking and outside of Tatsu’s placement I can get behind a lot of your points.
Oh hey it’s you :) I can see the intensity on Tatsu but idk if it comes close to riddlers especially if your not talking about the pretzel loop (love your vids btw)
@@RCETown Much appreciated. Riddler is pretty intense, but I think the flying coaster model just works for me more than it does for most.

For me the pretzel loop isn’t that bad, it just pins your head back into the seat from the G force but for me it only lasted half a second
Would you consider tatsu to be extremely scary ride the entire way through? I want to go on it but lowkey scared I’d pass out because I’m not the best on rides lol
I can tell that you hate viper but its my favorite coaster and also There is a space next to viper that's not in front of it behind it or next to X2, it's on the other side That inverted boomerang used to be And they could fit a coaster in there

For me, the roughest ride was by far tatsu. I legit nearly blacked out on the pretzel loop.
You might have come close to GRAYING out because of the positive g’s which make the loop very intense. It being rough will not make you gray out. A ride is rough when either the track profiling is bad and the elements don’t flow well. A ride is intense if the rider experienced a lot of forces. There is a difference. Tatsu is very smooth but intense.

Yea I just saw his stupid copyright thing in the bottom of the video. He can’t do anything if it’s considered fair use though (but that’s up to the court and on a case by case basis)

@@RCETown I don't think it would be considered fair use in this instance. You're not using the footage to criticise or review the footage itself, and you're not using it for anything other than it's original intended purpose (background footage on rollercoaster channels), so it's not transformative either.
Good to see some acknowledgement that intense isn't always good. It's hard to rate that. IMO Batwing (flying coaster) is more intense than I305 but it's also the worst vs. the best. Looks to me the one redeeming feature of Tatsu is putting the loop at the end so it can just be over after it smashes the give-a-crap out of you. I like to think I'd like X2 but it's not likely.
Yea I’m not a mega intensity fan 😅 I can kind of see your batwing v i305 point but I still think I would find i305 more intense, well see 🤷♂️

I think the airtime on Colossus is more forceful than Wonder Woman and they are somewhat equal in pacing but Wonder Woman has slightly better positives

Cedar point is the thrill capital. The lineup their is much better. Not saying it's a bad park. I hope to god that six flags retracks viper. As the last arrow mega looper it needs to be preserved. Their will never be another coaster like it.

I think you have confused intensity with discomfort lol. Nothing in the park comes close to Goliath when it comes to intensity - we are talking grey out levels on the final helix. Viper isn't intense, it's painful if you don't know how to ride an arrow looping coaster.
Goliath is borderline boring after the first drop. X2 is the most intense, followed by Tatsu and (now) WWFOC.
@@AyAy008I wouldn't say a hyper is boring but I've never ridden it but still, I don't think a rollercoaster can be boring unless it's a kiddie coaster but that's a kiddie coaster.

You mean at magic mountain in SoCal? It’s actually a pretty tame rollercoaster. It’s very uncomfortable when it breaks during the halfway point and at the end though.
X2 isn’t even a coaster to me it just feels like your in a car accident. I wonder how it’s even allowed to operate

Tatsu pretzel loop easily the most intense element in the park
More than X2s first drop? I definitely think it’s the most intense on the body, but mentally could be another factor.
@RCE Town I usually associate intensity with high positive Gs, but I guess intensity is a subjective thing. For me the first drop on X2 is so graceful and fun that I've never thought of it as intense.
