A lot of comics are really good at crowd work and story telling but none get as famous as him. No doubt he's a good comic and talented but the reason he's successful is because of his looks. Its sort of what differentiated him from a lot of the other comics. Literally every single comment on his tiktok page before he got cancelled had something to do with his looks. And it was mostly women.
I'd give him like a 6.7/10 as a comic, if Dave Chapelle is a 10/10. Which is a pretty big compliment to him.

Matt is trying to evolve as a comedian. What he did was a great move. He was way too comfortable. His all women fanbase likely would have tried to cancel him eventually so it's good he got it out of the way. Huge respects to him!

I watched this with my wife and we really enjoyed it. Honestly, this “problem” joke wasn’t even that bad to the point I forgot about it immediately afterwards. Idk it’s just comedy at the end of the day.
Context. Some of the best comedians have said, and continue to say, way worse. WAY worse. Anybody offended by the joke should probably not be anywhere near comedy shops, or watch any comedy specials for that matter.

Something you'll most likely encounter in advertising articles and freshman year in most business schools, "Bad publicity is still publicity". His team knows that more than anyone and the statistics behind the toxic social media bases of men who label themselves using Greek alphabets show a promisingly consistent group of audience...
This is showbusiness. He put a lot of work in his appearance and it took him some time to get the success he's getting now. This has little to do with personal preferences of being taken seriously as a comedian. It's about hopefully finding a more stable group of audience after the backlash. A marketing turnaround move.

Comedians hit sometimes but they miss a LOT. It’s the absolute worst when comedians actually apologize for literal JOKES. I’m not a huge fan of Matt Rife but his response was perfect. Their career is to make jokes, and jokes is how they should be taken.

A comedian needs to do the material they want to do. Period. Honed by hours and hours of work in a club, refining and making it tight. If you're a "comedian" trying to self censor because you might piss off a chunk of fans, you're not a comedian. You're a social commentator pushing an agenda for a dollar. As a guy I didn’t see a issue with his domestic abuse joke he said on his Netflix special. He afterwards made it clear to the audience it was just to feel out the room to see what kind of crowd he had. I saw ARAKO TV’s video on this and I thought it was ridiculous but honestly I’m not surprised. People are always going to complain but you know what’s funny? That there’s women out there that thought it was funny lol
I don't see why crowd work is considered a bad thing? To perform crowd work so well at that level takes a lot of talent and hard work.
While I personally don’t like the way he delivers his jokes and not really a big fan the way he does his comedy, he’s been making these jokes for as long as he’s been popular, but now that women are the butt of the joke, it seems like they only liked him because he wasn’t making them the butt of the joke for most of if not any of his acts. It just shows that people don’t seem to care about the jokes until it’s about them. If you don’t like him, don’t start talking about how sick it is to joke about that when you’ve seen how he jokes about other demographics and people groups. He could’ve made jokes about women before this and I may have missed it, but it just seems to have changed his audience now that he actually did this type of humor.

For stand up comedy jokes that is nothing in terms of being offensive. If the people that are trying to cancel him heard Patrice O'Neal for example back in the day, they would have died from shock. Comedy especially stand up comedy is a place where anything and everything can be joked about, if the joke itself isnt funny you'll get silence from the crowd or possibly booed in the moment not have your career try to be taken from you for it.
