+Volker Schirmbeck and so when are you leaving Germany or any other country in the world that eats meat. 250 whales as compared to how many chickens, pigs, and horse www.expatica.com/de/about/Top-10-German-foods-with-recipes_106759.html "Germans love their meat - and sauerbraten (meaning ‘sour’ or ‘pickled’ roast) is a pot roast that’s regarded as one of the country’s national dishes. It can be made from many different meats (originally horse), which are marinated in wine, vinegar, spices, herbs and seasoning for up to 10 days.Schweinenbraten is a delicious roast pork dish, usually served with braised cabbage or sauerkraut and dumplings (knoedel), and washed down with a pilsner beer." So comment back when you stop being a stupid hypocrital a$$.
The Whale killing can turn into long drawn out disorganised massacres. At Klaksvik was the site of the infamous grindadrap on the 19th July 2010 - a hunt which went horribly wrong even by Faroese standards. During that ‘grind’ a total of 228 Pilot whales were driven onto a beach only large enough for 100 whales and there were far too few men waiting to kill them. The Pilot whales were left thrashing around on the beach, on rocks and everywhere in the bay. The killing took far too long with immense suffering for the whales. You don't define a whole country and its people by one practice from a group of them...This is terribly narrow minded. Should we not visit Spain because of corridas ? Should we not visit Brazil because they are deforesting the Amazon ? You'll go nowhere if you are looking for 100% ethical countries with these standards. People don't go there to support these things, they go to visit a place. If anything, I'm pretty sure growing tourism would help the Faroe Islands' economy and therefore limit the need for this tradition.
Volker Schirmbeck Lives? You mean human lives? No? Im not proud nor sad. Im happy. No it does not cost lives. It can cost animal lives. Dont see it as barbaric, wrong, Even the danish leader of SS admited it.
Levi Hammer I'm sure you know that I meant the lives of the whales. Unfortunately my english knowledge is not good enough to lead a controverse conversation. I always thought a united europe with standards of humanity would lead us to a peaceful future. Obviously I was wrong. Seems to me we are living on different planets. So you should go your way of animal abuse and senseless killing without european solidarity. And without european money.
Eydis Mother fuckers, all over the World each time you meet anyone from these islands, just spit in their face, or hit them in the head with baseball bats until they bleed like these poor whales ,Faroe Islanders should not feel safe anywhere they travel,

The Faroe Islands maintain a despicable and brutal tradition of whale killing and I would urge anyone thinking of Visiting the Faroe Islands to reconsider. The whale killing must stop.
Anyone visiting won't encourage the practice in any way. Also, I am not defending it, but please tell me how the regulated killing of free whales for food is worse than mass slaughtering other animals who lived in a cage their whole miserable life ? Because every other country is doing so. And why are the Faroe Islands getting all the hate and the boycott calls, when other - way more touristic - countries like Iceland, Norway or Japan hunt whales on a much bigger scale ? Could it be because they do so at sea, far from the eyes, when Faroese don't ? I call this hypocrisy, on every levels.
The question here is not whether eating meat is fine or not. And again, I am not saying whale hunts are fine either. But my question is, in what way are they worse than the rest. Why should we boycott Faroe Islands and every whale hunting country as you say, but not Spain because of corridas, Brazil or Indonesia for deforesting precious habitats and driving species to exctinction for example ? And most countries on earth for industrially exploiting and killing animals for profit ? I am just struggling to find the logic here

every time the sea shepperd followers see faroe islands in a title they immediatly start to write hateful and ignorant comments. This video is about tourism for gods sake, if u want to release your anger, then do it in videos that are about whale killing
If you go to visit the Faroe islands then you are indirectly supporting the killing of Whales and dolphins. The grubby bloodthirsty islanders understand the smell of money (i.e. tourist dollars), So until they change their vile and heinous activities then *please do not visit the Faroe islands*
Shetland Islands is part of Scotland. Goes to show what this person is saying. Maybe her geography isn’t that good. Scotland and England are part of the UK.
The Faroe islands is a place where child abuse takes place and the local government does nothing about it. Parents feed their children with toxic whale and dolphin meat knowing full well that it is harmful to them. Faroese medical health authourities have warned their citizens not to eat any whale or dolphin meat. The islanders just simply ignore this advice, and as a result they have the highest levels of mercury in their blood in the world. The population suffer from to fetal neural development, high blood pressure, and impaired immunity in children, as well as increased rates of Parkinson’s disease, circulatory problems and possibly infertility in adults. The islanders say its none of anyone's business. Child abuse is everyone's business
One very important part of life on the Faroes has been conveniently omitted, and that's the grindadráp. If you have not already heard, there is a cruel, vicious and greedy whale hunt every summer. Anyone considering going to the Faroe islands - please keep away. You could also be arrested for not reporting Whale and dolphin sightings, in order for the islanders go murder whole pods of whales in one go. +mack man and you come with a website that publish lies and propaganda, the law is an anti sea shepherd law, tell me this, how will anyone know that you spotted a pod of pilot whales? no one! This law is so that if we see sea shepherd crews trying to chase them away, we can actually arrest them from avoiding the law! also, how is this greedy? everyone around gets a free share of it, i mean FREE, so tell me, how is it greedy? how is it more cruel and vicious than slaughterhouses aswell? pls tell me, because its actually not! its at the highest as cruel and vicious as normal slaughterhouses and still, i doubt about it even being close as bad as slaughterhouses because of how quick they die and the good life they had prior to this!
+crysisman09 Yes I would be glad to tell the truth of what really happens, in the Faroes. The new law states that anyone can be arrested for not reporting a pod of whales. Tourists take note it could be you, otherwise you could be arrested. The Faroese are just plain greedy because an entire pod of whales is killed regardless of the size of the pod and if there are enough takers for the whale meat. Obviously the Faroe islanders have never heard of "only take what your need" In addition to this, there is an average of 216 tons of meat and 144 tons of blubber are unaccounted for every year. The mystery is where does it go? No one is saying. Unwanted whale meat is dumped at sea. Clearly this is plain greed. Faroe islanders are endlessly telling the world that whale meat is free, yet it is sold at the supermarkets and at restaurants. Whale meat is not free. The whale hunt is cruel - no abattoir in the world would condone or be allowed to slaughter domestic animals utilizing methods of prolonged suffering, and any slaughterhouse that took an half-hour (as in the Faroe island Grind) to kill a chicken or a cow would be shut down by law.
mack man yep, you know nothing about this, thats a fact! We take what we need, have you ever heard of the thing that, if we have killed enough whales already, we let a pod go even if we spotted them close to the mainland? we LET them GO! that is not greedy, the meat that gets sold at places, what can we do about it? we cant control people saying they are not allowed to sell their share of the meat can we? its peoples own choice if they want to sell their meat or not that they got for free, still its frowned upon if people sell their meat! People get this meat for free, but there are still people that wants to sell their meat! How is there prolonged suffering? again, you cant even do a single fact! Its a fact that they die really quickly, it usually takes between 2 and 4 seconds for them to die, although they can still be seen to move while dead, this is because of their nerves, their nerves can make the body move even when dead!
+crysisman09 Yep- you have your head in the sand and that's a fact! This idea that whale meat is free is laughable, in many places in the world, taking marine life is involves no cost, and is free in that sense. However its then on sold and money is changed hand. This is exactly what is happening in the Faroe islands. Clearly this is not free. You write "We take what we need"- this is far from the truth and it is one of the Faroe islands dirty secrets. Firstly you say the Faroe islands may let an whole pod go, this may be true, however Faroe islanders never kill part of pod of whales, when they kill whales - they kill the entire pod, regardless of whether islanders at the time, could take all of the whale meat. In any ones book that is just pure greed and wastefulness. Lets do some numbers to prove that there is a cover up, in the Faroe islands. For the purposes of this statistic, we can set the average high at 40% of people that eat pilot whale twice a month. The population of the Faroe islands is 49,469. 40% of this number is 19,787 people. A meal of meat consists of roughly 0 .250 kg of meat and 0.05 kg of blubber. Two meals a month result in a total of 24 meals a year, with a total of 6 kg of meat and 1.2 kg of blubber consumed. This means that there every year the Faroese consume 118,722 kg of meat and 23,744.4 kg of blubber. The average catch per year is about 335,720 kg of meat and 167,860 kg of blubber. Each year, 216,998 kg of meat and 144,115.6kg of blubber disappears. Where does it go to? It is a mystery that the Faroese and the Danish authorities should be obligated to explain. It appears that twice as much meat disappears than is eaten. Clearly pure greed and wastefulness by the Faroe island whale killers.
mack man we store the food, we use it at parties etc, where alot of people equals more of it gets eaten! my own family have not wasted the meat at all, we have always eaten up the meat we got, we have never sold the meat either, we dont control what people do with their shares, if people want to sell their meat, that is what they do, its their own choice, we cant arrest them or fine them for doing what they want with their share of the meat! it is also better to kill the entire pod than to let some go, because they are so sentient, they would just get really depressed over experiencing something like this!
The Faroe Islands… Where compassion is a crime.Where an act of kindness can send you to jail. Where simply wearing a Sea Shepherd T-shirt can get you arrested. Where a citizen of the European Union (EU) can be deported by an EU nation for opposing an activity that is in violation of EU regulations. Where a tourist can go to jail for failing to report a pilot whale sighting to the whalers. Where the Danish Navy, the Danish police and the Danish courts defend the killing of pilot whales and dolphins, yet they claim to not be involved. Where 85% of the population hold Danish European Union passports but refuse to live in accordance with EU regulations. Where an average of 216 tons of meat and 144 tons of blubber is unaccounted for every year. The mystery is, where does it go? No one is saying. Where the national airline, Atlantic Airways and the ferries double as whale-spotting sources for whalers. Where a country with the highest per capita income in Europe claims they need to kill whales and dolphins in order to survive. Where they make up convenient laws to enable the killing of whales. Where children are encouraged to poke out the eyeballs of pilot whales and play with dolphin fetuses. Where parents take pictures of their kids mutilating pilot whales and they complain if the pictures appear on the internet. Where hundreds of bodies of whales can be found rotting just below the surface of the sea. Where they strangle puffins and steal their eggs. Where the whale meat is said to be free except tourists can buy it in the restaurants and it’s for sale in the market. Where the Christian community says the whales are a gift from God, though Leviticus expressly forbids the eating of whale meat. Apparently Jesus made a side trip to the Faroes to give them special dispensation. Where the people claim to be independent from Denmark until they need the support of the Danish Navy. Where the people take pride in bathing in blood. Where an hour of stressful pursuit and many minutes of agony accompanied by horrendous screams of pain is described as “humane killing.” Where population numbers change each day without any scientific validation. One day there are 128,000 pilot whales, the next 780,000. The fact is no one knows, except for the guy in Klaksvik with the crystal ball. Where people knowingly and willingly consume meat heavily contaminated with mercury and don’t give a toss, primarily because they eat meat heavily contaminated with mercury.
+Levi Hammer Several sea shepherd volunteers have already been arrested and all were wearing the sea shepherd logo. Unless you have been living in a cave, you can see that clearly on the world wide news. The biggest shame is the Faroe islands. Internationally your reputation has sunk to low levels as more and more people find out about your vile activities. Tourists are not coming to the Faroes. Environmentally credibility is at zero. Soon Denmark together with the Faroes will be taken to court and shown to be hypocrites and found guilty of breaking EU law. This will of course be a great victory and a huge embarrassment to Denmark and the Faroes.
mack man Problems here and there... All the SS crew members that tried to stop the grind were arrested. All wearing the SS logo but there wouldnt be a diffrence if the volunteers wouldnt have a logo. Secondly all socialmedia is civered up with youre propaganda. So what do we do? Ignore em. Thirdly The Faroe Islands are not a part of eu. Dennmark owns The faroes. However other countries cannot stop this. Because its legal. This tradition will stay. DEAL WITH IT.
+Levi Hammer Sure you can ignore world wide protesting against the Grind, but eventually the Faroe islands economy will suffer, because of unrelenting international pressure. It already has with tourism. I never said the the Faroes are part of the EU, however 86% of Faroe islanders have a Danish passport, and EU law states that EU citizens must not kill cetaceans. The Faroese hold up their Danish passport when they want protection from the Danish navy and police, but when they are busy killing whales they hold up their Faroese passport. What hypocrites! I also just love this pathetic "Tradition" excuse Faroes islanders give as a reason for the Grind. So because it is a 'tradition', it therefore justifies the Grind. Really? I can think of many traditions around the world that are vile and evil, and have no place in the modern 21st century. For example foot binding in Japan, honor killing in Pakistan, Bull fighting in Spain, Female genital mutilation in the Sudan, marriage dowries in India. All these traditions are vile and or cruel, and many governments and organizations have fought long and hard against them with varying degrees of success. The Grind will be another heinous environmental crime thrown in the dust bin of history.
Faroe Islands are very beautiful! but... The cruel slaughter of complete whale families is barbaric!!! Tradition is no argument for atrocity and greed!!! You are cruel people!
Thank you for your response. I call for boycott of the Faroe Islands on because there happened cruel crimes against the animal world. You quote: "We kill whales for food" Whale meat is unsuitable as food, is extreme contaminated with mercury and toxins. November 26, 2008, Faroese health authority: no eat whale meat, health hazard! But many Faroese people know the problem. But they ignore, they want kill! You quote: "the whales do not feel any pain". Your statement shocked me... These peaceful animals (mammals) are afraid and feel! You quote: "what about cow slaughter?" Each animal cruelty is wrong, every single one !!! Cruelty on pigs, cows ... is also wrong. This is not an argument for vegetarians and animal rights activists. We are talking about animal cruelty. The theme here is the cruel whale killing on the faroe islands! I respect no barbaric traditions! !!! I demand respect for nature and life. You are killing of fun and pleasure. Therefore, I call on to boycott. regards
we kill for food and food only nothing else. whale meat is delicious and even though there is mercury in the meat, no one has ever died of mercury in the faroe islands and why is it your conserns that we get mercury in our bodies when you always give us death threats anyways so you should be happy that we are "killing ourselves" by eating the meat
It's impossible to make sense of any topic when you look at it with hatred from false information and that's why the Faroese "tradition" seems so silly to you. You seem to have difficulties seeing the bigger picture of life on earth, of course that knowledge is merely impossible to achieve by spending all your free time in front of an oblong box believing any propaganda a random person throws at you, who in most cases has never experienced nor seen the activities of that community in action. That being said i must say that I fully understand that you're against the slaughtering of whales, but please at least get your facts straight before you start throwing childish accusations around that don't make any sense. The Faroese People are open about all their slaughtering methods, how it's contributed around the islands and how they dispose of the carcass - they even have a website that goes into the smallest details if you're interested - if not than i would advise you to stop whining because you're making a fool out of yourself. Bottomline is THEY JUST KILL THE WHALES!! They don't live in caves and dance around fires with bones from their newly slaughtered whale carcasses and perform ancient rituals that involve the enjoyment of torture,, they just go home after a slaughter to either dry the meat or store it in a barrel filled with salt and then they log on facebook like everybody else... So please for the love of God grow up and educate yourself about the topic you're protesting before you make a statement, and most importantly remember that spreading awareness is actually possible without being full of shit and the people who make up those stories are greedy money laundering low lives.

and money is changed hand.
The Faroe Islands…
Where compassion is a crime.Where an act of kindness can send you to jail.
Where an hour of stressful pursuit and many minutes of agony accompanied by horrendous screams of pain is described as “humane killing.”
Where population numbers change each day without any scientific validation.
+mack man Wearing a ss t-shirt gets you arrested? And proof? And how i dont see a problem with it. In our country SS is a shame.
No
Faroe Islands are very beautiful! but...
The cruel slaughter of complete whale families is barbaric!!! Tradition is no argument for atrocity and greed!!!
You are cruel people!
Thank you for your response.
I call for boycott of the Faroe Islands on because there happened cruel crimes against the animal world.
You quote: "We kill whales for food"
Whale meat is unsuitable as food, is extreme contaminated with mercury and toxins.
You quote: "what about cow slaughter?"
Each animal cruelty is wrong, every single one !!!
Armselig! Diskussion beendet!
