It's nice to finally see a host who seems to have some appreciation and understanding for all the flavors and unique items she encounters, whereas other hosts mock or snub that which is different to them. Adina can competently articulate herself through taste and texture, thereby allowing the viewer to have a good sense for what she is experiencing. This food is of my culture, and in no way did she make me feel insulted, belittled, or defensive about her "how to shop" navigation; she did well at the Russian supermarket (NetCost) as well. Nice job, Adina.

Ellen E It's funny that westerners are quick to criticise that Asian food is oily and fatty and full of msg. And yet Asians have some of the highest life expectancy, are skinny and don't have obesity problems. They should look closely at their western diets which make them obese and age prematurely. In Asia, we would never feed schoolchildren frozen pizza for breakfast which they do in America. And Western diets are killers.

Faux Manchu There's actually a lot to be said for the Americanization of Asian food into a "General Tso's" version compared to what's actually cooked and eaten in Asia.

Very true. My grandmother (not blood related) is Chinese, and she would make some dank steamed Jiaozi (Jao-zu) on my birthday. Chinese dumplings with ground meat and vegetables. They have a really good doughy outside, but when you bite into it, all the juices from the meat and vegetables explode in your mouth. Definitely my favorite food of all time, and I miss it dearly.
Westernization of Asian food is not that prevalent in my country, but I have had greasy and shitty Asian food before. It's not true to form at all. Real Asian food is extremely filling, and you also very healthy. It has lots of different sources of energy that last for a long time, so you don't have to eat as often; although you definitely want to.

Mitsuwa is based in California. There are around 5 in CA, One in Chicago area, and one in Jersey. I live in Chicago and it's been hear for decades. They were not always called Mitsuwa (they were acquired not too long ago), In the 90's they had a Godzilla monster toy store in the Chicago area store. It was awesome

I'm sure the crew has already obtained permission to film and to 'demonstrate' with some ingredients inside the store. Whether the crew had to buy at the same price we do, I'm not sure, but they definitely had some mutually beneficial agreement.
Supermarkets where I live don't allow eating indoor though, even if it's paid food T_T. Cuz you might make the place dirty.

i live 2 miles from this Mitsuwa, their selection of japanese dried goods are very good but they are so OVERPRICED compare to H-mart (there are 4 H-mart withing 3 miles from me). Mitsuwa fresh food selection is not so fresh because people aren't buying them at their high prices. the only positive thing i can say about this place is the food court, but you can find good japanese food from any authentic japanese restaurant

In my personal opinion a must-get snack when visiting is Mogu-mogu (a fruity and VERY sugary drink with chewy chunks in it) or Marco Polo brand shrimp crisps (any flavor will suffice, but original and garlic and onion are good!) they also have frog legs (which are delicious fried like chicken), candy meal kits (Imagine snack and crafts met, amazing sounding, right?) as well as pretty good prices on bean sprouts. Also shop around, some places may have better prices on certain items (Pocky was $4 at one place and $1 at another!) and they may have stuff that you can't get elsewhere.

Surely there is one. I live in Nagasaki, but when I go home to Florida to visit the family, I'm always able to find at least one little Japanese grocer. While they're never of the size and scale of mitsuwa, you can at least get some umeboushi and nori to make your own onigiri. (I've eaten onigiri every day for 2 years, can't live without them anymore lol!)

Journey and Explore there's a lot of Asian areas in Toronto. If you go to a dominantly Asian area like China Town or somewhere close to Scarborough. There's bound to be big east Asian stores. They usually have a mix of Chinese, Japanese and Korean stuff.

I don't think that was a mountain yam ball that she ate (yamaimo). Because when cooked it becomes soft and breaks apart like a potato. Maybe that was konnyaku ball which still is very chewy no matter how long you cook it. Mitsuwa is great if you're stuck in a food rut. Anyways fun to pick up a new ingredient or produce and make something new!

I feel like this video was a bit disappointing because the title leads you to think it will be more educational. For example, she could have explained what you use koji for, instead of just being like "omg you can buy mold in a grocery store so weird!!". Also to just eat a fish ball without knowing or telling us what it is and reacting to it, feels a bit rude... I honestly thought I might learn what kind of vegetables or meat to buy since I live nearby a Mitsuwa, but I guess this video series is more about just reacting to "foreign" food.
