thank you for updoading.
Probably the most inspiring musical event I ever witnessed. And the greatest production I ever saw at the Salzburg Festival.
Thank you. You witnessed it in real (1992) or with this video?
I was there at 3 evenings 1992 in the Felsenreitschule. For me, the Mortier era were the golden years. Btw, shook hands with Messiaen 1991 at Wien Modern festival, unforgettable memories. He was celebrated like a king.
which he was 😀
Why isn't there a film of the performance.
We can do better: here's a video of the world première performance, Paris Opéra 1983, the production done under the composer's direct and scrupulous supervision: th-cam.com/video/TCme745Mhms/w-d-xo.html
why are there not subtitles in this documentary?
"I have great respect for the director, Peter Sellars, who produced Saint François at Salzburg in 1992 and later in Paris. But what made me very angry is that he invented a second Angel, one that doesn't exist in the score, and Angel who danced and mimed. Messiaen would have categorically forbidden that. I tried my utmost to dissuade him, with tears in my eyes, and I am convinced that Messiaen wouldn't have approved of what he did because it is _false_. But I could do nothing, and when it came to it there were enormous miscalculations in the production..." -- Yvonne Loriod (Messiaen's widow), interviewed by Peter Hill in _The Messiaen Companion_, Amadeus Press, p. 300.
