  • In this video, we'll play with the Westcott FJ80 II and show you why two speed lights and a trigger may be all you need!
    Check them out:

    This is not a paid ad. Westcott did let us borrow the lights to showcase and try, so I could give them a spin and share my thoughts.

    Orbit was a rebranding from Adorama of the Jinbei products. But they stopped doing it after Wescott came out. Now Wescott it's in charge of doing the rebranding.

    I have the FJ400, FJ200 and now i have the FJ80 for some fun, i rarely use on camera flash but for home gatherins and parties i think this would be for me.

    I use the cheaper alternative, which is basically the same. The brand name is Jinbei and they have stores in China and Germany.

    I have the FJ80 original. Bought it when I was shooting Canon. Now that I’m Fuji, no problem. Just changed brand on flash and away we go. The original FJ80 is bigger and now that the FJ80 II is out and smaller, it would be nice on the smaller Fuji camera. Thanks for the video! And yes Westcott is amazing!

    Seems like a nice alternative to Godox if you're just getting started. I haven't used one but they seem nice-the godox stuff I use is a little janky but they do work well. If I hadn't already invested in that system I'd probably be really torn. The wescott flash gear seems a lot more in line with Profoto in terms of 'niceness', although at a much more realistic price.

    • @tmsmqwx
      @tmsmqwx ปีที่แล้ว

      The Westcott is going to be just as janky as your Godox because, despite Westcott's refusal to acknowledge it, the FJ 80 series is a re-branded Jinbei HD-2 from China.

    I just got a couple fj400s. Super fast to boot up unlike the speedlights. However, I recommend just putting them to SLP with the trigger rather than turning them off. Much faster.

    Good review. With my Nikon Z6II (and other Nikon Zs as well), there would be no need to turn the flash off to take an ambient-light shot. I set my No. 1 Fn button to cancel the flash. So if I have a flash mounted, and I want to take an ambient-light shot, I press the Fn1 with my middle finger, while firing the shutter with my index finger. Very convenient.

    In Europe the brand is Jinbei HD-2 max. Got everything from Godox but the light quality from de Jinbei/Westcott is better. I have it with me when I just need a flash and I really like it. Pity that Jinbei/Westcott don't make an AD200 pro [same shape] because then I might have to switch completely.

    Can a Wescott trigger, trigger godox ad200

  • @jpdj2715
    @jpdj2715 ปีที่แล้ว

    Note that the FJ trigger for example does not work in TTL mode with the Nikon Z 6ii/7ii and Z 9 cameras. It's not clear to me why but these cameras could be too fast or they have a protocol (*) variant between camera and flash that the trigger developers have not properly understood yet. Canon, Fuji, Olympus, Panasonic, and Sony all have exceptions that will only work in Manual mode.
    (*) protocol - the formal "language" between these devices

    • @ogonzilla
      @ogonzilla  ปีที่แล้ว

      TTL worked on the Nikon for me although it was on Westcott's "no" list. Go figure.

    • @jpdj2715

      @@ogonzilla - note that it's about mk ii. That said, I have a similar observation with my Z 7ii and PocketWizard FlexTT5 radio transceivers. Not supported, too fast, and yet it works. Potentially Nikon made a change in a recent firmware update.

    Thanks, Omar. Actually, I use my old film-era Nikon flash SB-26 on modern Nikon, Sony, Fuji and mFT in manual or auto mode (no TTL even on digital Nikon), so there is no surprise Westcott would also work this way. It is all about trigger or adapter that would make it work in TTL mode on any camera.
