You start this song thinking just: "ok... this is a pretty good cover!", but the song keeps getting better and better and better... until, at the end, you are in a f***ing trance, having a full-blown religious experience! Man! John Popper is an absolute LEGEND!
History will show that John Popper is perhaps one of the most talented musicians of our time. Though he makes it LOOK easy... it is not. Very inspirational!
Would agree...bob dylan greatest songwriter john popper gteatest muscician...he can adapt to any style of music...his voice in this song is as if if sir marley wrote it for his voice
Most people probably don't know who Ian Anderson is, but I know a few who know him thick as a brick, lmfao, but amazing comparison because you are spot on.
Yea for sure! There's ska which is reggae mixed with big band horns. There could totally be a new genre where reggae is mixed with harmonica blues like this. I'd be its biggest fan. Could call it Carriblues.
I had the great privilege of witnessing this incredible performance in person! I had seen JP and Blues Traveler play their 4th of July concert at Red Rocks for many years running as an annual tradition. But this part, of this night, on this July 4th, made this concert like none of the others like I had seen before at Red Rocks. It was the most spiritual experience I’ve ever had at Red Rocks, and I’ve had a few experiences in the over 100 concerts I’ve seen there. Simply amazing to watch John and Ziggy pay tribute in such a beautiful way to Bob, on such a beautiful night, in such a magnificent place!
The 5 dislikes are from from people that don't know anything about music what-so-ever. John Popper isn't full human. He's like a demigod or something. Love it.
Right at the end, when Popper appears to be ad-libbing, he's actually singing the words to the chorus of Steve Forbert's Romeo's Tune. Just a bit of music trivia for you all.
Amen, brother Ben! About 6 months ago I was stuck in a hotel room, but luckily AXS TV was showing a concert with the Zac Brown Band with John Popper sitting in. Oh my gosh! Mr. Popper was AMAZING!!! SO GOOD!!!!!
How the hell do you even make A HARMONICA SOLO that damn cool? This whole video is one of those special moments that mankind was just lucky enough to have recorded.
Music ain't in the colour of one's skin... It's right in the heart. Black, White, Yellow, it doesen't matter, as long you can feel those goosebumps or tears coming down..
Jon Popper is a legend! The way he belts out the next lyric after a 2 min harmonica solo is awesome 🤟🏼🤟🏼and when he screams forever towards the end is So RocknRoll.
I found this about 4 days ago. Since then, i listen to it at least 3 times a day. One of my favorite BM songs. I once thought Bob was a prophet. I guess i still do
Mr. Popper, I would simply like to say: Thank You. Thank you for performing, thank your for caring, thank you for your style, thank you for having heart. Thank you.
This is why I love technology. To think I could've gone my whole life without having heard this performance...I'm in awe, simply never seen anything like it and probably never will again, brilliant!
When the Video is over.... And you realize you have been looking at the screen for about 4 or 5 minutes without moving yet, With your headphones still on... Just sitting there looking at a video that has ended... Thats when you realize how God damn impressed you are. I was going to comment that I was speechless but I somehow wrote this.
I Cannot believe I have never heard Blues Traveller before this weekend. What a waste of my eats since 1994. John Popper is an absolute magician on the harmonica and his voice is so versatile. Add Lyrics to his songs and you have the most most most underrated musician in the world. Bugger off Covid and let me get to this band live before I die
Absolutely beautiful. Little rough start but when they got it going it was the greatest thing I ever heard. Harmonica solo gave me chills. Hearing that crowd roar when Popper started. Even Marley stopped to enjoy.
John popper has one of those voices that he could be singing the names in the phone book... kids that's the old way of finding a phone number. And I would but the album. Love his voice.
Gave me goosebumps and definitely brought tears to my eyes! John Popper is hugely underrated! Blues Traveler is at a festival in my city tonight and I'm dying to see them!
Are you kidding? The best of the best. It's this kind of thing that puts Blues Traveler on my greatest bands list. A perfect rendition of an immortal song.
The mutual respect on the stage that night between Popper and Marley was wonderful to see. It was truly an AMAZING performance. Dare I say better than the original?!
John has always gotten that respect from the musicians he plays with. You can always see the pure joy on their faces. They know when they are in the presence of true musicianship. He is not a harmonica player, he is not a vocalist, he is not a songwriter, he is a musician to the core. I owe him more than I could ever convey or repay. Long live BT!
Definitely not better than the original but they have made it their own which is really nice. The best covers are always the ones where the band playing adds their own personal touch to it. Sublime do a pretty cool cover of this song too
When they sing everything is going to be alright you just know everything is going to be alright! I can feel the love!! John Popper please oh PLEASE come to Toronto Canada in 2015!!
as of September 24, 2017 I believe we can assume there are 105 down turned thumbs, that are absolutely oblivious to talent being replayed here. One of the most under-spoken...rated...commercialized talents of current day music...
Just look at that crowd. Every single person is so into it, and I love every last one of them. Something about thousands of people saying "everything's gonna be alright" is just powerful.
Good grief, I wish that Blues Traveler would come back and tour again with a new album. They were such an amazing group and so unique in their sound. John's harmonica playing set them apart from the rest of the mainstream music and made them stand out in stark contrast to the rest. I feel that they are so underrated, and could still be topping the charts.
I play blues harp. I'm not bad - I can knock out 12 bars and sound OK. When I first heard this 13 years ago my goal was to one day play this solo. There are only 20 notes (not including bends!) on a blues harp - how hard can it be to figure out? I swear to God I've tried for over a decade, but where the hell does he find those notes? And how does he play those licks? I'll never play this - I'm happy to bask in his talent. What a ridiculous talent.
Ken Scar was so epic. .. 2003.. look for the whole movie. . called thinnest of air. 2 disc. . fireworks were choreographed for what seemed most the performance. blues traveler is one of my fave and you can see em every 4th.. rocks.
One of my all time favorite live performances. I will forever be grateful to whoever captured this moment in time….it always cheers me up when I’m feeling low. 💙 🎶 🫶🏼
John popper has never gotten the credit he deserves not only for his harmonica virtuosity but his vocal talent as well...
Would love for you to see my interview with John! th-cam.com/video/l8W-4LKwi6U/w-d-xo.html
Yeah. His vocals are mind altering.
Ian Hinkle he’s Got credit!!! he has a Grammy!!!!!

Who the captain fit?
That’s my favourite Bob lyric!!
You start this song thinking just: "ok... this is a pretty good cover!", but the song keeps getting better and better and better... until, at the end, you are in a f***ing trance, having a full-blown religious experience!
Man! John Popper is an absolute LEGEND!
Spot on.
Absolutely!
This comment was read on the Adam Carolla show podcast ❤

Read my mind!! Spot on!!
Absolutely agreed. He is the Ian Anderson of the harmonica and a simply amazing blues singer.
Most people probably don't know who Ian Anderson is, but I know a few who know him thick as a brick, lmfao, but amazing comparison because you are spot on.
He's a real American legend❤❤❤
He struggles at beginning, but man does he mail it
You know that feeling when you watch a video of a gig you wish you had been at? This is one of them.
When Popper fires off it's like a fucking religious experience man!
you said it man whoooooohoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
this is her husband joe VERMONT REPPIN its more than that this is it it is it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yea for sure! There's ska which is reggae mixed with big band horns. There could totally be a new genre where reggae is mixed with harmonica blues like this. I'd be its biggest fan. Could call it Carriblues.
This is the best cover I’ve ever heard! Ziggy sounds just like his dad & John Popper nailed it!
Agreed
Legitimately one of my favorite videos on the internet.
I had the great privilege of witnessing this incredible performance in person! I had seen JP and Blues Traveler play their 4th of July concert at Red Rocks for many years running as an annual tradition. The look on Ziggy's face while John is playing his solo, priceless and true admiration! Awesome song and recording!
That Harmonica Solo Is A Religious Out Of Body Experience 🙏🏽🙌🏾
No doubt. Glad we get to enjoy it
I've viewed this at leat 100 times.
To have been there ...
The 5 dislikes are from from people that don't know anything about music what-so-ever. John Popper isn't full human. He's like a demigod or something. Love it.
They should just remove the dislike button on this video, no one would press it intentionally 🤣
Right at the end, when Popper appears to be ad-libbing, he's actually singing the words to the chorus of Steve Forbert's Romeo's Tune. Just a bit of music trivia for you all.
Thank you for sharing! I really love that part. Was wondering where he pulled those lyrics from. Going to check out that song now. Appreciate the tip.
Very nice. Couldn't find the reference til I read this.
Very cool
These are the kinda comments that BELONG here on YT.
Bravo sir! 🤓
Add libbing????????
Thank you for sharing , yes they are the comments that should be ... ty again
When you can harmonica a Rasta song. You pretty much win. John Popper is a badass. Saw him at Cain's in Tulsa. Great show. Great musician.
I seen them there too, on what would have been Bobby's Bday. I was born and raised in Tulsa. There's no place like Cains.
Dear God... amazing, TY!!!!
Epic!
Damn. John Popper is seriously underrated!!
Amen, brother Ben! About 6 months ago I was stuck in a hotel room, but luckily AXS TV was showing a concert with the Zac Brown Band with John Popper sitting in. Oh my gosh! Mr. Popper was AMAZING!!! SO GOOD!!!!!
lol who said john popper was underrated?
Says who?
One talented fellow.
underrated isn't the word you're looking for as he's widely regarded as a virtuoso. 'Fallen out of mainstream' might be a better phrase.
How the hell do you even make A HARMONICA SOLO that damn cool? This whole video is one of those special moments that mankind was just lucky enough to have recorded.
I've played harmonica for about 20 years. I don't even know what holes he blew in. Gave up trying to figure it out years ago. Next level
The more I listen to this song, the better it gets. This song is 100% on God's Ipod.
This is definitely the best harmonica song in the history of mankind
As a longtime harp player: yes. And it's not even close
I swear Popper makes his harmonica sing the lyrics. Incredible.
Word.
John is incredible with hetmonica best in world
Going down a Blues Traveler rabbit hole tonight and this gem was a pleasant listen.
The same thing happened to me today!
Music ain't in the colour of one's skin... It's right in the heart. Black, White, Yellow, it doesen't matter, as long you can feel those goosebumps or tears coming down..

Great name buddy lol
@@nodrogskram1857 Holy Shnikies! Thanks
Incredible.
And his short rift from Steve Forbert's Romeo's Tune..." let me hear you say..."
I found this about 4 days ago. Since then, i listen to it at least 3 times a day.
One of my favorite BM songs.
I once thought Bob was a prophet. I guess i still do
I cried because I didn’t realize I could hear something so beautiful.
Oh man it makes me cry everytime lol
Both ziggy and popper are such generous performers, they really compliment each other perfectly

The finest music ever performed - at least in the last 77 years. thank you John and Ziggy.

18 second vocal note, harmonica solo... yea Popper is special! Much love for the spread of Bob's message!
I Cannot believe I have never heard Blues Traveller before this weekend.

John Popper is a legend.
PoorDummIdiots There wasn't enough cocaine in the world to satisfy me either...that's why I had to give it up.
PoorDummIdiots I do believe he's clean now... But he may have fallen of the wagon again, I don't know.
G Carr That's it. Thank you.

7:36 for me man, I feel you though!!
Watching Ziggy just dance and take it in.......When you got Ziggy Marley admiring you, YOU ARE DA MAN!!!
John Popper one of the best harmonica players and singers! He deserves more credit then given to him!
This my friends, is pure unalduterated music, no costume, no big lights, not huge stage, no bulshit… just what music is supposed to be like
That long note Popper sings sends shivers through my spine..... Amazing performance!
Absolutely beautiful. Little rough start but when they got it going it was the greatest thing I ever heard. Harmonica solo gave me chills. Hearing that crowd roar when Popper started. Even Marley stopped to enjoy.
No bad start there buddy
John Popper is the patron saint of harmonica players.
Sam Hersch One of many, check out Sugar Blue. Sugar Blue was around when Popper was pooping in his diapers.
Would love for you to check out my interview with him! th-cam.com/video/l8W-4LKwi6U/w-d-xo.html

Legends have sons that never can live up to expectations but in this case I would take Ziggy any day
Amazing! Why nobody mentions the guy on the Hammond? He plays like magic!
I can’t quit listening to this. It’s just about perfect. Damn.
What a f#&k*n awesome 'cover' of this classic. Can it be called a cover when Ziggy Marley is part of it. Blues Traveller & Ziggy - luv ya work!!

Facts
Great song! Even better with John Popper
This is by far the best cover song ever produced in the history of mankind.
Fucking RED ROCKS! Damn that venue. Never wanna go anywhere else!
Love how Ziggy is staring at him at 7:07 singing his ass off after 2 minutes of killing the harmonica like wtf.
This is an absolute masterpiece John popper is so underrated much much love for him in Ziggy thank you for this amazing collaboration
For a song where they miss starting with each other its the best live song iv ever heard
Gold. If only I could find music like this more often.
Outstanding! Both men so talented. Z sounds so much like his Dad.
Love Ziggy. Damian and Julian are also amazing artists.
Brrrooo. The control he has with that Harmonica is other worldy. Then he just goes all out at the end. Goose.bumps from a harmonica. Who knew.
That got better and better and better till the very end. I actually got goosebumps. Amazing.
Literally gives u goosebumps
Chris Seaver one of my only TH-cam comments, couldn't agree more. This was such a good mash-up. Anyone that questions that harmonica, I link this song
I'm loving this at 1.25 speed. It is fun!
the look on ziggy's face when he goes into that killer harmonica solo says it all this guy is amazing to see and listen too
This is fantastic. It starts out good and just gets better.
SEEING MR. POPPER ONCE LIVE IS NOT ENOUGH!
You can't imagine how many people were standing out there in the audience with their eyes and jaws wide open.
Just look at that crowd. Every single person is so into it, and I love every last one of them. Something about thousands of people saying "everything's gonna be alright" is just powerful.
Popper is the most underrated musician/ singer of his generation
One of the greatest performances ever!!
361 thumbs down?.Who on earth doesn’t like this song,or this version of it???.The best one I’ve heard aside from King Bob!
This is literally soul refreshing. So beautiful, so raw, so talented. On repeat
The best Harp-Solo i ever heard. ! Thank you Mister Popper! :)
Holy shit he sounds like his Dad. What an epic performance oh how i wish I could have been there but thank goodness it was recorded.
💙 🎶 🫶🏼
...but you are making me cry! this version is so powerful to me.
And for 8 minutes 32 seconds everything was alright in the world ✌️😊 Much luv from Raleigh, N.C 😘😘
