And it's too bad Queen Victoria hadn't made the tiara's from Albert, crown property for the future Queen's and Queen Consorts, it would have been a truly inspiring historical collection for the whole of the Crown Jewels!
i dont think Queen Victoria or Prince Albert (or for that matter Queen Mary) could ever have imagined that these pieces would ever be sold off and leave the extended family, as sad as i find it that some of these pieces end up in museums never to be worn again, it is preferable to them disappearing for ever into very private collections
It is such a shame that Queen Victoria did not also designate the Emerald and Sapphire Parures as Crown Property as well. Compared to some of the ugly and sub standard pieces in the Royal Collection they are much superior in my opinion.
