Agreed Jim. Some commenters are complaining that Nightwish don't sound like Nightwish anymore and then say in a different comment section that the new songs sound too much like older songs lol.
Marko didn’t sing on every song when he was there. He made great contributions when he did. That’s just missing now. Troy is NOT a singer. Big time difference. Some don’t want to acknowledge this. 🤷♂️
This album is like an old concept album by Pink Floyd, you might take the time to listen to it from the first song all thru to the last one. After about 50 times now it grew on me up to the 5 best albums I own - and I am 64 now and have about 8000 records. The last song -Lanternlight- is my personal song of the year 2024 by far. It is very, VERY different but exactly that is the reason. For me Nightwish has evolved to one of those rare bands, that create art without any consideration to what anybody expected or to say it the short way: Nightwish does Nightwish things. And I predict this record will be recognized in decades, just like Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the moon. Some records last forever. Greetings from Germany
Vor Jahren las ich einen Kommentar eines Musikers der gefragt wurde was er zu den schlechten Kritiken der Fans zum neuen Album sage. Er meinte das jeder Fan entscheiden kann ob er es kaufe oder nicht, er aber müsse den Rest seines Lebens mit diesem Album leben und er sei sich im Reinen damit, und die Band würde es ebenso sehen. Thuomas macht sich seine Gedanken über die Songs beim Schreiben, beim Aufnehmen entwickeln sie sich dann auch mal anders als er es dachte, der neue Arrangeur in London hat die Orchesterparts wohl teilweise in eine Richtung entwickelt, die er selbst nicht im Sinn hatte aber gut waren. Sie sind ja alle mit dem Ergebnis zufrieden, auch wenn sie einige Texte erst mal überarbeiten mussten damit Floor beim Singen Luft holen kann. Darauf hatte er wohl nicht geachtet. Aber er gibt ja selbst zu das er schlecht einschätzen könne was Singbar ist da er selbst nicht singen kann. Auch hat er gewisse Probleme damit was mit den Orchesterinstrumenten machbar ist, aber deswegen wird das Ganze ja vor den Aufnahmen mit Leuten die davon Ahnung haben überarbeitet. Und Floor macht eh Unmögliches möglich, selbst wenn sie noch nicht komplett wieder fit ist

Habe Dich schon oft auf meine Kommentare reagieren sehen und wir scheinen die gleiche Welle zu schwimmen. Vielleicht können wir uns mal für ein Konzert verabreden und gemeinsam solchen Höhepunkt live erleben. Müssen nur alle mal aus dem Quark kommen.....

This song and "Lanternlight" are my favourite songs from the album "Yesterwynde". But the whole album is a masterpiece, not only these two songs. You should listen to it from start to end. And I agree with what you have said: Bands should evolve and not only always repeat what they have done before. I am glad that Nightwish do their own thing and are not trying to fulfill the expectations of "old fans" who do not want them to change.
Another great reaction! Classic Tuomas to use the ocean as a metaphor for our life's journey. Tuomas has said "The song actually has a triple meaning. I hope people will read the lyrics and find their interpretations of the song. I do want the listeners to interpret it themselves. However, I can share a little anecdote: I remember the moment when I conceived the idea for this song and felt so excited - oh yes - this is going to be a great adventure. I took a big A4 sheet of paper and made a drawing on it. Throughout the time I was composing “An Ocean Of Strange Islands”, that drawing remained on my music stand. I won’t reveal what was in that drawing, though." Tuomas and his wife, Johanna Kurkela, have a tradition on New Years where they draw a map where each Island represents a goal or a dream that they wish to achieve. In addition to the song being about one's journey through life and the people we meet along the way, a number of people thought that one of the meaning's of the song was Tuomas's journey and experiences in Nightwish. The islands are all the people and experiences he and Nightwish have experienced over the last 30 some years. All the monsters and hurricanes that were obstacles to the band's success. Friends and bandmates have come and gone, sometimes badly yet he doesn't regret any of those experiences. In the end don't dwell on the bad stuff or worry about what will be. Continue the journey. Continue your story. Troy's pipes at the end are that calming acceptance of who we are and our journey. It is a sense of home within ourselves and comfort in knowing that even when our story ends, it will be ok because that is what is supposed to happen. In the end we all get to find our own meaning as Tuomas has always desired of his fans!

May I suggest Children of Ata or Something Whispered Follow Me to react to ? Children of Ata has a adventures story behind it that realy happened . I think you wil love both songs , keep up the good work 🙂 .
As a Nightwish fan, I really think that this album is excellent and up with their very best. I think that there was some criticism of Perfume of the Timeless because of the vocal mix (I wasn't too sure about it, initially), but in the context of the album it makes sense. Overall, I think it is the best of the 3 albums with Floor (though Endless Forms is also excellent and Human:II:Nature has many standout songs) and it gets better with repeated listens.

The album vocals were recorded six weeks after Floor had her second daughter (Lucy) at her home studio. She was allocated six additional weeks - she completed the recording in six *days*. She had been practicing the songs while still on tour (and while still pregnant). After the band stopped touring to give her time before giving birth (2 or 3 months). After that she needed "mommy" time. Lucy should nearing one year old now.
The entire Yesterwynde album is full ofTuomas and Nightwish brilliance. There's traditional Nightwish change ups mid song, fantastic stories all wrapped up in a whole new direction. Brilliance never stands still, it is always evolving. I hope Nightwish fans who have criticized the band moving forward from their past can appreciate where the band is going. If Yestewrwynde is an indication, Tuomas has alot left in his bag of genius. Listen to "Sway" and "Children of 'Ata". Both are outstanding. Learn the origin of the Children of 'Ata. It will blow your mind.
