      I started playing basketball at age 2 with one of those plastic Little Tikes hoops. At age 3 and 4 and maybe 5 my mom would record me running and dunking on it while it was on it’s lowest level (in the late 90’s). My grandma also remembers me bouncing the ball in her drive way for hours at a time when I was in kindergarten. If you saw me to day, you’d think my ball handling skills came naturally. NOPE. There’s no other aspect of basketball that I worked harder at. Things that sorta did come natural were on ball defense (never had to practice that. It was easy since the first time I guarded somebody, and got better with in-game experience), passing’s always been easy for me, rebounding, and dunks. Everything else I’m only good at due to a lot of work. I’ve worked hard in pretty much all aspects of basketball, but there’s a few that I got good at without any struggle.
      Point is, you’d think at least 90% of my abilities came naturally if you saw me play today when really only about 35% of my game naturally/easily. But the only reason I worked so hard at it is because there isn’t much that I love more than basketball. If basketball was say my 5th favorite sport, dunking would be the only way I could score because I’ve always had a natural feel for dunking. Shooting and layups came from a lot of practice (though post moves and free throws feel kinda natural too).... Love and passion makes hard work easy.

    As a basketball player, Mike is indisputably the greatest, but what draws me to him more is his work ethic and his relentless pursuit to achieving his heart's vision. I've read about Phil Jackson and his interactions with Mike, and from what I've read, Michael truly had the attitude of a champ. He had enough humility to accept his weaknesses and enough courage to turn them into strengths. This is the hallmark of a person who succeeds and one who doesn't.

    • @hububatfiyatlari
      @hububatfiyatlari 9 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      Yes man, I've read too. Phil Jackson also compares M.J and Kobe and he says Kobe is as passionate, ambitious and determined as Michael in basketball. But outside of it, Kobe is more relaxed, he doesn't care as much if he loses other friendly competitions in life, like playing backgammon or sth., he can let it go. Michael on the other hand, is the same everywhere and wants to win everything, and he cannot easily let things go.
      I agree what you say about Michael Jordan, and this commercial also shows well why he is who he is. One of the best commercials ever and gives me goose bumps every time I watch. "Maybe I let you believe that basketball is a god given gift, not something I work for, every single day of my life..."

    • @JasonGafar
      @JasonGafar 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Exactly. I too have heard Mike being highly competitive in the smallest of things, such as cards and golf, even among his friends. Competition is good so long as it doesn't cause harm to others and doesn't bring others down. If it's directed towards something positive, than by all means it's good. I don't think Mike's is harmful though, based on my observation. He's a global mogul who's influenced plenty. I wish him much success.

    • @amansinghsarna
      @amansinghsarna 9 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Hubub, don't rip kobe off on this one. Kobe has undoubtedly some of the greatest work ethic ever seen in a basketball player. It doesn't matter if he wins or loses. After the game, he's taking 100 free throws- by himself. And when he got injured, he would still wake up at the break of dawn and work as hard as possible. There's a story that he was practicing and training for the Olympics, and this trainer told him that he could call him if ever needed help. At 4 am, kobe called him and asked if he could come over and help him with some drills. So the trainer said ok, I'll be there. When he arrived after 20 minutes, kobe was drenched in a pool of sweat. After the trainer helped him after that, he left and came back at 10. Guess what? Kobe was right there, shooting around.

    He really did destroy the game in some ways. He was so amazing and won at such a level that all people saw were the rings and highlights, not how he played game in and game out and the work it took to get there. It led to a generation of ball-dominant volume shooters, as if that’s what he was in his prime.
    He was a killer on both sides of the court, a team player who did whatever it took to win and played disciplined basketball. But all people saw were clips of the amazing dunks and layups, the smooth fadeaway, him pumping his fist after another clutch game winner. He was so much more than just a shiny toy that you could imitate by dribbling around and shooting a lot.

      Dude MJ won MVP, won Defensive Player of the Year, led the league in steals and scoring, and was the slam dunk champion... IN THE SAME YEAR. (1988) His all around game was unprecedented and has not been matched.

    many relished the chance to be like mike. not many wanted to put the work in. however, there was one player who did. a diamond in the rough. Kobe Bryant. Kobe Bryant was like mike. Even MJ himself got mad that he was taking all of his moves. Kobe transcended the game of basketball and achieved the dream we all once had. to be like mike. Rest in peace mamba. Your legacy will live in forever. 🙏

I may suck at bball and sports in general but Mike taught how to win at life and have a winner's mindset; take responsibility for my actions, view my choices/actions today influencing my future / the life I'm gonna live; embrace change and failure -- learn from it , adapt, e ching .
