I really enjoyed drawing along while listening and watching. A really good topic. I think its important to do our own thing as much as possible. Without a doubt we are all influenced by other artists and art work but your 'anything goes' book shows how important it is to stay true to whats important to us as individuals. Adele Symsten (not sure of spelling) just uploaded a video about having an art party with yourself. And to follow our own inclinations. I love shape and colour, the line, contrast and negative space. I have a collection of books that I reference and I am inspired by our Polynesian art and culture here in the Pacific. I was born in New Zealand and my place of belonging and our Maori and Pacific Island heritage is really important to me. I often reference it in my work and also our future generations are my motivation.

thank you ! Ohh will have to chair out that video - I love how you are referencing your background and heritage in your work , just watched a video on Mark Bradford and I feel like even if we don't realize it our stories somehow get into out art.

Really love the list of ways to draw inspiration from our environment and I have to say that you made me chuckle out loud with your chocolate chips, I do the exact same thing, hahaha! Didn’t think others did this so it just made me laugh to see that I wasn’t alone in that.
I just appreciate your whole vibe so much and am really thankful that you take your time to share your passion, show your work and generously share creative tips, your techniques and processes with us Sonia. Thank you for being here and for being you! 💓

thanks - yep not alone in the chocolate chip department- I had a friend who used to sneak off to the laundry area to eat chocolate as didn't want to set a bad example (or share supplies ) with the kids - lol

I always love your videos! Great ideas for inspiration. That book by Ruth Asawa. Through Line looks very interesting. Look forward to future videos about the books that really inspire you in more detail. I have read the book on The Creative Mind. It is a wonderful book. Thanks for showing your artwork and lovely abstracts. I am waiting for a shipment from Blick on some new Posca Markers and a Ranger Mix Media Sketchbook. That is an early birthday present.😊

@@soniabrittain It is the Ranger Dylusions Creative Journal. It is 113/8"×81/4". 128 pages. It takes a variety of mixed media. I heard other artists used it before. I thought I would try something different. Waiting for it all to arrive! 😊

I love your videos Sonia, your art is so colorful, fresh and the way you talk about it all is very easygoing and different from everyone else here on YT. I quit instagram for a while and am happy to watch your videos instead, cheers from Berlin

Hi Sonia! Thank you so much for this video! I’m also a very bookish person (work in a library in fact) and books are my first port when starting a journey. Could you please add the books on the notes? 🙏
I’m getting The Art of Creative Thinking right now.❤ thank you :*
