You were playing the ''Advanced Rules'' for AlmaTafl. In the Advanced version, the King needs to begin his turn on an escape spot in order to win.
In the normal version the King wins by simply reaching an escape spot.
    Thnx for trying the game!

Oh yeah I didn't explain that! Thanks for mentioning it :)
It's a quite clever design, I like Heneftafl and I AlmaTafl too!
Btw, was I correct that once the king is in a 3-height stack cannot be captured and black should focus on capturing the other pieces?

Ok I get now why AiAi wasn't playing that move, thanks :)

@@FrascoAdAbstra I am glad that you like it 🙂
Yes, once the King is on top of a height-3 stack is considered as ''Safe''. However, a height-3 stack is not so manauverable/flexible so he may end up being ''imprisoned'' instead of ''safe''.
Invaders should focus in minimizing the King's defenders. This is a top priority. You can either stack all black discs and have them inactivated (as it is the terminology of the manual), or you can aim for the King.
For experienced players, the Invading player should minimize the King's defenders and set traps for the King once he is down to a small number of defenders.
      So, to sum up:
      1. You can have all of the Kings defender's inactivated as your goal
      2. You can head straight for the King as your priority (I do not suggest it especially for experienced players)
      3. You can Have a few defenders inactivated, and then begin setting traps for the King
I have uplaoded a few AiAi games on AbstractNation focusing on Invaders' strategies. You can find the files on the groups ''Files'' tap

I forgot to reply here, thanks for the tips! I'll keep those in mind when I'll play next time :)

@@FrascoAdAbstra no worries, I hope that you enjoy the game!
      Here's another tip:
Just like in every abstract strategy game, the board has some "points of interest" that you must control/influence. There are certain points on the board that the formation of a height-2 or a height-3 stack will benefit the King. So the invaders side will need to prevent the formation of a height-2 stack that will lead to a height-3 stack. Or avoid placing an invader because once the King lands on this will create a height-2 stack with the ability to bounce.

Thanks for trying Adere and congrats on your victory in Moon Squad!
I'm drafting a strategy guide for Adere, but the main principle is to "attack from weakness." Don't go right for the center, surround the areas you want to occupy first. Attack your opponent by playing adjacent and towards the edge of the board - then they must either capture the weaker space or allow you to capture the stronger space. Playing directly where you want to go will leave you open to capture, so build up strength around the spaces you want to occupy first.
In Moon Squad, it's usually best to wait to capture until you are forced, or you make a real connection threat. Capturing doesn't gain you a cube, and your opponent usually can't prevent you from capturing unless they make an adjacent squad - so it's better to take a contested space elsewhere. The AI has not figured this out yet! If you build up a numerical advantage in squads it's easy to overwhelm your opponent with a series of captures at critical points.

Makes sense, I was figuring out about Adere's idea while playing but too late!
And in Moon Squad I figured that the capture of the third stone of a colour is also quite important as it determines where the squad is placed, which could be crucial in situations where tempo is important.
Thank you for the tips, and it was a pleasure to try your games! I'm curious to see how Adere works on the typical diamond Hex board..
