@@SONWU my man is scouring all of youtube just as the rest of us :D - what more reasons do you as an opz lover need still? my last excuse is: xy chopping workflow is still garbage.
@@SONWU actually for me the lack of audio recording is the one thing that keeps me away from exchanging my op1f for the op-xy. if it was only lets say 2 minutes sampling (better 6 of course), one could finally do it all with one maschine. bummer...
I also get the feeling they compliment each other well, too- preparing samples on the field to be sliced and diced on the xy. Or using the fields master effects to punch up (pun intended) the xy sounds. Or having some loops going on the field in sync with some sequenced stuff on the xy. Or recording an xy performance to field album (still can't believe xy doesnt have any way to record a performance :FF...)
Since you have both the field and the xy, I'd appreciate if you could check what happens if you connect the field as a midi controller via bluetooth to xy and play the field keyboard while xy active track is punch in effects or tape or any other aux track. Field's probably triggering the corresponding action on the currently active aux track. But maybe with different midi channels you could play punch in fx on the xy while the field live played a sound on the xy. Jeez that would be cool.
Hmm interesting 🤔 thanks for the suggestion - will add it to the list! When just playing on the XY if you have recorded a sequence on the punch-in FX and live play another track it still does get affected by the punch-in. I figure the resultat would be the same with a midi controller 🤔
I'd really like to see how the sampling engine works for multisamples, in the LOOP section in particular. Is there any sort of Auto Looping? Even the Akai S612, their very first rack sampler, has excellent auto looping for stuff like basic waveforms. It just works. S1000 auto loop, when chosen does a good job as well, and I've always used it when making multisamples because, let's face it, looping a full multisample key group sucks ASS
I’m wondering if someone can do testing with midi sequencing of external hardware synths. Especially if it’s capable of recording cc information from external hardware like modwheel/aftertouch filter sweeps etc.
(some suggestions or more like just my own desires) I would like to see closer shots of the device and less of the frame. (frame isn't bad and creates a good layout, but I just want more close ups of the unity or screen.) occasionally zooming in would be fun to see. Also I think the iconography is really cool and highlighting it a bit would be fun. Maybe breaking down what you think the symbol means and how it relates to audio and its function or inspiration.
thank you for your feedback! that means a lot and i will consider it. if you've seen some of my older videos i did a lot of b-roll, close ups, zoom ins, text on screen etc. and i love it. but it took soooo long making those videos that i got burnt out. now i'm trying to get going making long form content again and I'm doing baby steps. right now this format works for me. i will try to make it more snappy tho. but baby steps right now... :)
Thanks a lot for this (or not... now I want it more with this question answered) Using the multi sampler to create a split keyboard patch didnt even cross my mind. Or placing some drum sounds in left hand; There must be a limit to the overall user patches of samples, wondering where that is. I mean... imagine 50 user patches times 24 samples times 20 seconds: 24 thousand seconds of samples :o
at the moment it's no fun news to report about this. You get audio over USB but no export features other then record the main outs. hopefully they'll update this soon tho!
Could you show how the xy handles chopping? moving in and out points by hand per key for longer samples is really annoying. also with the xy you would also have to select the sample first from the library, right? funnily enough the fields limitation here takes away an additional step. I'm really hoping theres a faster way of chopping like playing the sample and simply press the keys as you go.
Nice video thanks for info, although stop saying ‘stretching’ because I got excited thinking it was time stretching each sample over the pitch range 😂 when I fact it just pitches them. Wonder why they didn’t include the video stuff ?
haha sorry, always hard to not mess up the terminology when you're not a native english speaker. I totally expect there to be proper timestretching in the future tho!
So does the multi sampler spread 1 recoded sample across all keys with the same time stretch? Or do you need to sample different notes of a sample to cover the entire keyboard? Also does the XY have at least external sustain with a midi controller? Thats the one big thing for me that the OP-1 Field is still missing.
If you only record one sample then it Will spread it across all keys. But this will produce audio artifacts when you stray to far away from the recorded pitch. So yeah, multisampling allows you to record notes across a few octaves to reduce the artifacts and make a better sound. Or you can use it as i did in the end - for splitting your keyboard
just curios, but when you sample from the op-1f into the op-xy, can you sample via usb audio using a usb-c cable rather than an analog cable? or will you blow something up?
I'm sorry to spam you with questions :D:D - but how does pitch shifting effect sample playback? I could not make it out in your demo; on field they simply change the playback time. No warping or anything. I guess its the same on xy, right?

Lets say you record something into one shot sampler, just for fun, but you don't save the preset (I assume like on field user presets must be saved deliberately?) - now, without saving the preset you load another engine. Is the previously recorded sample still in the sample library? If yes, you'd really have to keep things clean in order not to fill up the inevitable sample limit of the machine.
