      Hi, yes you can air dry them. It will take quite a while through (days). I would let your jacket drip dry from a hanger and then in a couple of times a day redistribute the down by giving it a good shake. As it gets dryer you'll probably want to shake the down around more regularly to break up the clumps of down. This method does work it just takes time a bit of persistence..

    The tumble dryer is key. I washed a thick down vest in the washing machine. My heart sank when it came out .. but I let it air dry. It was a disaster. So I brought it to the dry cleaners, and asked them to wash it normally, and then dry it. They did, and it came back looking like new. So even if you have a disaster, trust me : it is retrievable.

    Hello. Super helpful video. The cost I need to wash has a fur trim. If I put that in a bag and tied it with elastic of you think it might come out ok? I am thinking that might keep most of the water out. Any thoughts really,appreciated 😊

    • @LittleAdventureShop
      @LittleAdventureShop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there, good question. To be honest I've only ever had coats with removable faux fur trim. But have a look at this article it looks pretty comprehensive:
      www.thespruce.com/how-to-clean-faux-fur-coats-2145795
      If it's faux fur I think the washing part looks OK but you'll need to be careful drying it. Real fur is going to be more tricky, maybe try your plastic bag idea but I think the water will move up the fabric regardless of how tight you manage to tie the bag on.
      Let me know how you get on!

    Hi, thanks for this really useful video! Does this method work for puffer jackets that aren't natural down? Ie synthetic fillers?

    • @LittleAdventureShop
      @LittleAdventureShop  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, with synthetic puffer jackets you don't need to be as careful with the drying process. You can just wash and hang them up to dry/ tumble dry/ air dry. Most synthetic insulation is a sheet sewn into the garment do it stays in place when you wash it and doesn't clump at one end of the baffle like down does.

    • @LittleAdventureShop
      @LittleAdventureShop  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, I use the delicate cycle, and that has always cleaned the jackets fine… they’ve been grubby but not filthy. I would go with the most gentle cycle that you think will clean your jacket.

  • @Xerthios
    @Xerthios 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    How fast a spin should the jacket go in for when it is in the tumble dryer? Also is it safe to do this when the brand’s logo isn’t embroidered? I have experienced the logo peeling off before. Thanks in advance for your help :)

    • @LittleAdventureShop
      @LittleAdventureShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi there, good questions! I think tumble drying is going to increase the risk of a brand logo coming off, particularly if it has already started to peel. Having said that we've never had any problems with logos peeling after washing and tumble drying. You cold turn your jacket inside out to prevent a logo rubbing against the drum of the machine, this would probably help.
      Our tumble dryer doesn't give spin speeds. The spin cycle at the end of a wash is going to be far higher than anything a tumble dryer is going to reach during the drying phase. So I think as long as the jacket is being turned frequently then that should be fine.
      Thanks for the questions, I hope this is of some help.

    • @LittleAdventureShop
      @LittleAdventureShop  14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi, yes I think you would be OK without the central agitator. We don't have Tide here but I think it's a standard detergent. You would be better using a plain washing soap or a specific down wash so the down in your jacket isn't coated with the extra colour enhancers etc in modern detergents.

    hi, normal washing powder is not recommended ? thanks for your video and advice

    • @LittleAdventureShop
      @LittleAdventureShop  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi yes, because most "normal" washing powders and liquids have additives which enhance the colour etc (all the marketing blurb). The issue is that this can leave a residue on the down and so reduce the loft after washing. Specific down wash is really simple and just cleans the down and doesn't leave a residue.

    • @LittleAdventureShop
      @LittleAdventureShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there, thanks for your message. Ideally you want to balls to have a bit of weight to them or be prickly so they bounce the jacket around a bit in the dryer. My dryer balls are really soft, light and smooth so I don't think they would be ideal. If your concerned just stop the dryer a few times and give your jacket a really good shake to move the down around.

      Hi, don't panic! you can air dry them but you'll need to keep shaking the the jacket to reposition the down. If it looks terrible I would rewash and then use your aunt's drying machine to dry fully. I've washed a jacket before and then left it out and forgotten to put in in the tumble dryer. I just rewashed it a couple of days later and then dried and it came out fine.

    I'm not sure if that grangers detergent has fragrance and would be ok for eczema? I'm wondering if a small amount of my ecover zero liquid detergent would be okay and if air drying with a dehumidifier is an ok alternative to tumble drying.

    • @LittleAdventureShop

      Thanks for your comment, you can definitely skip the tumble dryer but you should give the jacket a good shake out every hour or so during the drying period to the down gets re-distributed.
      The Grangers down wash doesn't have any added fragrances, it's a very mild cleaner in comparison with "normal" washing products. That's why it's good for down. I don't know about the Ecover detergent, if you give it a go let me know how you get on!

Personally I don't as I'm concerned about the arms of multiple jackets tightly wrapping together and damaging the down and putting stress on the baffle stitching. We're not experts on fabric care, but from your description I think I'd probably give it a second gentle wash with a soap solution (or dedicated down wash) and then retry the drying cycle with tenns-balls again. What makes the down 'fluff' up is the ability of the jacket to bounce around in both the empty washing machine and dryer. It sounds as though it got pretty squashed in a full wash. If in doubt, I'd get in touch with North Face's customer care department as they might have specific instructions for your jacket. Have faith - down will definitlely recover if given a chance, so I don't think you have ruined your jacket. Hope that helps a little.
