Something that recently has been brought to my attention is that mic placement on F1 cars is not always the same. This means in some on-boards, you can hear the whine of the gearbox, and in others you can't. I know a lot of you (myself included) were complaining that the mercedes engine's whine shouldn't be there in game since it isn't there in real life, but it is. You just can't hear it in the mercedes clip because of mic placement. I should have known this before posting this video, so apologies for that. @@captlazerhawk I think a lot of people expect exactly what’s on the broadcast, but what codemasters is trying to do is simulate the sound for the driver, which obviously isn’t going to sound like it does on the broadcast since you’re hearing it through a shitty camera microphone. Though I wish the broadcast mix option actually made it sound like the broadcast sound
@@treturismo Yeah, it could use work. The real life mics suck though, but obviously the camera angles in the game should somewhat reflect the real life sounds. Because they change at every angle.
All the engine sounds are just a copy/paste from the last game with the whistle sound added which sounds awful on the Mercedes and not so bad on the Ferrari. There is still over a month left so changes could definitely be made which I think will because I don’t think they’re going to put so much effort into the graphics, the new damage model and all the new game mode features but not make the cars sound realistic.
@@xxDeFuZRxx With the regulation change, very likely. but the whine from the turbo hybrid on this game actually is realistic. which is why im a little confused with the original comment. The whine is perfect as it is, its the actual engine sounds that are problem. The only one I can properly relate to RL is Alpine, which sounds good again this year. But ngl, engine sounds is the least of their worries at the moment. They want to focus more on the physics and handling or it and making the gameplay in general more realistic. Edit: Also, they are focusing on putting the 3 new tracks in at the moment which is not easy. Jedda, Portimao and Imola are not easy tracks to try and replicate properly. Thats where their focuses are at the moment, which I agree, that is a good thing.

What I will give props to codemasters though and not a lot of people might realize it. But you know in RL when the car is so quick down the straights and the wind hits and the car jots and jumps a bit. That sound is exactly the same on the game too. And I actually love that sound of the wind hitting the camera sound.
I think honda is more realistic than mercedes, for me the mercedes in rl sounds the best (downshifts are glorious) but nothing of that is implemented in the game, only on ferrari a bit, but sadly not really realistic. Renault sounds most accurate for sure...
Ferrari is better comparable to the last year's car, which I think is the closest code masters have ever been to a realistic sound. But I'm OK with that, since they're always trying to improve We can't expect a drastic change from year to year
There’s minor differences in all of them, but that’s mainly because the onboard cam mics aren’t great. These are definitely a major improvement on last year’s sounds. I wish the broadcast mix made the sounds actually sound like they do on the broadcasts though. In F1 2020 I can’t tell the difference between broadcast mix and regular mix.
@@BradleyG01 From what i heard and read a while ago, Codemasters apparently use the exact same mic placement as the FOM. Additionally, Codemasters supposedly does not use the same EQ and Filters as the FOM, as Codemasters are seemingly trying to create their own mix. If only Codemasters used the same procedures as the FOM for the T-Cam Onboards. It is more than questionable why Codemasters still are not able to nail the engine sounds.
If a small team like Race Sim Studio can produce such a detailed model with physics and top-tier sound for Assetto Corsa, I don't see how Codemasters (now backed by EA and considering the team they have) can't produce a good engine sound
Mercedes in game sounds quite hollow and too high pitched, same with the Honda. The Renault is quite good, but definitely could be more realistic, Ferrari isnt too bad. In general as well the downshifts are not aggressive enough
it sounds like they recorded actual turbo audio but just put it on top of their engine audio without any proper merging . You would think with them having the license to f1 they could get some actual samples but im not an audio engineer i have no idea what im talking about
and im not buying the its still a month away shit , that beta build is going to be 98% the same as the release build as they always are that close to launch . It will be perpetual updates until the games life cycle is over. Thats not codemasters fault its our fault as gamers for allowing this type of game development be the most profitable in the industry. It will still be a great game i think so hope is not lost

Yeah Honda engine in F1 2020 was so off. It’s still slightly off, but waaaay better. If I had to change it I’d making it a bit deeper. Also all the engines lack the stuttering of the turbocharge during upshift, hopefully they implement that before the game is released or in 2022.
There needs to be a higher pitch of turbo/electrical systems sound after each gear change, as apposed to a flat consistent sound for every gear change with the Red Bull. Mercedes down shifts crackle should be on the Ref Bull as well
My favourite sounding engine for this Real F1 Season and for the Upcoming game is The Renault Engine for Alpine. Love The Engine Sound and Whine. Upshifts and Downshifts sounds very accurate.
It's amazing how single modder in AC can recreate more or less flawless f1 2021 engine sounds, but a whole damn team of devs for the damn official F1- titles creates a copy paste - which clearly don't sound like the irl counter part.
Good shit tbh it doesn't get much better or closer I do feel the pitch could of been slightly higher on the revs but other then that it's great the whine is there tho so that's nice lol the red bull was spot on man with the tone/pitch those turbo/electric sounds are amazing haha
I just wish they had more detail in the track surface. It seems like you're driving on plate glass in the game, it's so smooth, whereas real life has all sort of bumps which unsettle the car
Fun-Fact. There is an alternative Mercedes-Engine Soundfile you can use in F12020 which has the iconic Mercedes-Exhaust-Pipe Sound. But it's very quite and the actual Engine sound is missing. Still.. I baffles me that codemasters had it as a test in last years game and didn't do anything with it this year...

Agreed, Much better than F1 2020. I’ve been complaining about the lack of the turbocharge sound since I started playing the game. This change alone makes the game worth the $60. The alpine engine sounds the most realistic imo
@@pm_t4738 the lack of turbocharger was the biggest issue with F1 2020s sounds. And the Renault engine in 2021 is totally different. Mercedes and Honda are pretty much the same except the turbocharge of course, and Ferrari is a little higher pitched. Obviously none of these engines are gonna sound exactly like they do on the broadcasts since they’re through a microphone that isn’t all that great. They’re trying to simulate what the engines sound like for the driver, not the viewer. Though I do wish broadcast mix simulated the sound for the viewer instead of doing absolutely nothing at all lol

Hi guys, I’m just in wonders what is so hard why so hard to Codmasters to recreate the sounds ?? I mean they have all it needs, is straight forward process as myself audio developer in other sim projects, I can say this create separate sounds cockpit, then exterior as for starters then cockpit sounds would have onboard cam were sounds are slightly muffed then cockpit sounds personal (1st person and other cam positions) and then they would be able to recreate sounds using live recordings from main engines sources and using onboard cams from real cars while race, have all that they trying to recreate using crapppyy synthesising audio samples, the process of making ultra realistic audio is simple they just not using full potential! What a shame year by year and sounds either not good or worse or just okay, disappointing honestly
To be fair I can’t think of any games that have V6 hybrids that sound like real life. AFAIK the Kunos SF70H is the closest one, but even that is lacking somewhat. Then you get embarrassingly wrong sounds like the W08 in GT Sport.

The Renault, while the best, is lacking that whistle sound. Mercedes' downshifts are just terrible. Still the same sounds from last year.

Merc's engine whine is too exagereted in the game. It's not very well done
because still using sound from 2009 they copy old one into new game, u tell as no backfire if did sound like dirt games then we get real sounds.

It’s just a difference of mics. The mics they used in 2020 f1 cars are similar to 2021 f1 game car sounds.

There's only so much a microphone can do to replicate the sound that your ears let you hear.
They will never get Mercedes engine sound right.
They have to ease up on that turbo whine. It is way less prominent in real life, and it also drowns out the regular engine noise in the game.
In the Mercedes, I totally agree. In the Red Bull it’s a little too high pitched, but in alpine and Ferrari I feel like it’s pretty well done.
No the turbo is suppose to be loud..if you haven’t noticed the turbo whistle is becoming louder than the horrible engine sound so deal with it

What a shame year by year and sounds either not good or worse or just okay, disappointing honestly
I agree but also making in game sounds is a very difficult process but I feel codemasters have more than enough time and resources to do so
To be fair I can’t think of any games that have V6 hybrids that sound like real life. AFAIK the Kunos SF70H is the closest one, but even that is lacking somewhat.
Then you get embarrassingly wrong sounds like the W08 in GT Sport.
i agree with you, im really dissapointed in this year F1 game sound is so bad that im not gonna bother buying it :D

The engine still needs to be improved but the game isn't out yet they still working on it so I'm sure it will come out better then ever
