I have seen several Brown thrashers that were crippled in my life, but they survive! Did not fly! They have always reminded me of a road runner! 🌞

Love them! They are my favorite bird. Their personalities are so unique! I had one that would let me toss peanuts to him. And their songs are very reminiscent of mockingbirds. I did learn how to tell the difference. Thrashers will repeat the song phrases two times - usually - before going to the next song phrase. And I was going to ask you, if you noticed that th Catbird always shows up when the Thrasher does. He got a peanut too! I like Catbirds.

Should I feed peanuts in the shell or without? I'm curious how I can get this new to me bird to keep returning. It's only in the past 2yrs that I've heard it and a few days ago laid eyes on it for the first time.

Oddly enough, I saw my first pair of Thrashers yesterday at work, and I also thought they were quite Roadrunner-like.

I like how their bellies have those lines that look like stretch marks. Didn't realize they run so quick on the ground; I've only seen em fly

I now have a couple coming to the backyard. Smart looking bird. Recently on a turkey hunt I heard this long mocking bird type call and looked up to see none other than a thrasher just belting it out. Don't worry folks I didn't a get turkey. Very cool birds with a name to match..

My house is surrounded by dense pines, so I catch glimpses of them regularly! They’ve got a great song too :) They’re always flitting about fastidiously tending to their business.
Thanks for the video! I loved the cameo of the painted bunting :) I’ve loved them since childhood, but they don’t show up here in Alabama.

I was lucky enough to witness a momma thrasher nest, lay and hatch two eggs in the hedges in the front of my house. I was unaware of the thrasher and had to look it up, I thought it to be a weird mocking bird. Needless to say, once I identified momma, I made sure she had water and seed close, and she never tried to attack me. They really are cool birds.

We are in South Miami. I saw my first brown thrasher in my backyard yesterday. It was interesting that he favored being on the ground than on the feeders. I will have to set up a water bowl on the ground for him. Great Video quality. Thanks for sharing.

Found this video researching what this bird in my yard could be. Immediately thought "fast like a roadrunner" but I'm in North Carolina. The two who have shown up this year are often out in the open in my yard. And indeed they'd rather Run away than fly. It's the first year I have ever seen them around my place. (For an extended time at least)

I have one coming to my suet feeder and I've seen them in my yard singing from a medium-high perch. And they do love a peanut! My 2nd favorite mimic behind Gray Catbird.

I've seen a few come up in my yard to eat. I have feeders and will put feed out on the ground for the Blue Jays and Doves. The Thrashers are very cute! 😊

They are so, so beautiful! I love the colors and patterns. So cute when they're drinking.
And there was a bonus of a painted bunting in the video for a moment! What was the blue bird near the end? Was it a bluebird? I feel silly, not knowing for sure. LOL. Gorgeous bird.

Seeing videos of Thrashers running across the ground made me think that they resembled Roadrunners, too, especially with that slender, long tail of theirs. They even have pretty patterned plumage like Roadrunners. I’m waiting for the day that I get to see one again in my backyard. Only time will tell. Also, there seems to be a Crow on the left at 1:55. Nice closeup of the Thrasher, too. Thanks for sharing, MBB!

Earlier I saw the thrasher chase away its cousin, the catbird 😊 I like both

I think from what I've researched the past 2 days that I'm in the most northern part of their range here in North central Ontario 🇨🇦. I first heard it last year but couldn't get a close look. I was determined this year to identify the Bird "talking" to me. Finally happened and could trace the call to the tip top of the pine tree. The sun was in such a way I could identify a long tail, and long curved black beak and gleamed a beautiful auburn color on top and striped white chest. We've lived in this house over 25 yrs and it's the first time I've documented him/her in my field guide. Then the next day on my way out to the compost it dropped down to the ground in front of me from the lower half of the brush. He let me follow for about 5 slow steps pushing a wheelbarrow 😁 I hope it's building courage to come to our feeding station 🤞🏻

That's great - like Blue Jays they like unsalted peanuts in the shell. I had one I could hand feed a few years ago. Good Luck! BB

@@MyBackyardBirding Blue Jays like peanuts better if you shuck them out for the smaller birds, because the minute you leave they come from nowhere to grab them 😩

I live in Pensacola, Florida and we have birds in our yard that look exactly like this except it has a straight beak. Other than that, the color, the tail and the body looks like the Brown Thrasher. Anyone know what it could be?

@@GillianMStarlight ahh ok, I didn’t catch the one at 2:05 but you’re right, it does look like a female painted bunting. They are supposedly a “rare” sighting where I am in Maryland but I’ve never seen one in my backyard or at my feeders. I’d definitely remember if I did.
