I've been using Citric acid for the last 3 years over vinegar. The vinegar tends to dry up rubber and can even penetrate some plastics causing the magnet to swell. There is a huge thread on R2R about it. Since using the Citric Acid I haven't had issues with the cords getting stiff or the grommets getting brittle and tearing.

I am now doing the same thing Phil. I was especially ambivalent about using vinegar on my MP60’s after reading that article.

This is such a great tip! I have the Jebao and first time I took it apart I realised the 2nd time I took it apart I had put it back together with the wrong blades on each side. Then putting it back together i broke a piece of plastic - arrggghh - it's fine but now I am going to put it back in with citric acid.
I have the biggest pump vertically on the back of my red sea reefer 250 so I run it on 3 out of 10 on random. It makes a great current anti-clockwise around my tank. I have it turned off from 5pm - 10pm after your great tip of running lower flow when you watch the tank so the LPS puff up.
    Thanks again Scott ;)

I heard vinegar is not good for pumps. Might want to try citric acid instead.

The gyre 3K has been working well for me so far. I have heard the same thing when it comes to those replacement rubber parts for the unit.

I used this exact glammorca as well and the rubber grommets are absolutely terrible. Unfortunately I used them to ramp up and ramp down which added extra wear and tear.

Could be possible cause of the vinegar? Had mine over 2 years and still original grommets but I dont use vinegar. Just a thought .

They are out of stock on amazon too. I guess the question is how long are they going to be out of stock. You might have to buy multiple ones so you will be good for a while.

This is a flaw with the older models and the icecaps. The newer maxpects dont have these issues

Try using citric acid instead of vinegar is better for your equipment.

Scott that was a short one but this is not a good advert for maxspect considering I buy the crossflow pumps cheaply from China and before everybody jumps on my words I have had these pumps for three years and so far they are superb so even if I have to buy them 5 times I still feel that they are the better buy. I now expect loads of comments from people trying to justify the stupid prices being paid for the same pumps.

This is true to a point. I have the Jebao and have had it for over a year - no noise ever (I run it low). The issue for me is the controls aren't good. But if you have the Hydros WaveController you can buy individual Maxpect pumps without the controller and they are cheaper than the Jebao with the standard controller I think. Plus you are getting a better quality pump and just 1 power brick. The issue is the upfront cost of the Hydros. On the other hand there are wifi controllers for the Jebao but it's one per pump and if you have 2 pumps I think the price is the same ballpark and I think you can run more than 2 from that controller. Assuming the hydros lasts more than 5 years I think you are likely to come out ahead. I am in EU and they aren't available yet (like I'd want them for 220v).
For sure though - if you don't need the control and only 1 pump the Jebao is a better deal IMO - but now with everything going on I'd like to avoid buying Chinese stuff where I can.
