    Bruh.. every time I watch one of your videos, it just drops this jewel of knowledge in my head that takes every recording that I do to the next level. I really truly appreciate you for that because for the longest time, I've always been a music lover and creator but I have never been able to get the music to reproduce what I hear in my mind until you showed me these little tricks. So, "thank you" from the bottom of my heart!!

    It’s funny that this video popped up in my recommended because just the other day I learned about a free multiband compressor I think called Nova. I hadn’t tried this kind of plug-in before and I was amazed by what a strong tool it is for vocals! Awesome video! Keep up the good work! I’m definitely going to have to get an upward compressor plug-in now!

    Every artist watching this video I know for a fact you're going to improve your recording quality if you just keep searching for tutorials like these..
    Trust me you don't need any expensive equipment at all, just get a decent mic (somthin like Rode NT1A will do the job),
    qood quality cables for your interface and lastly I would recommend the iconic mars comet portable isolation booth.
    Artists that recorded on my beats use only low budget equipment like that and their results are honestly skyrocketing bc they keep watching tutorials like this one
    and learn about useful plugins (which we all know how to get for free so that shouldn't be a big deal)
    and how to prevent all the mistakes you could be doing during the recording process.
    If you had all the most expensive equipment there would be no guarantee for high quality recordings
    because it's soo much more important to know how to properly work with it 😇🥰
    Best of luck to y'all

Just came across the best video on vocal production by a producer named Nick Mavromatis and I realised how it’s not all about mixing. His production on vocals is just INSANE. It may be my speakers, or it may be my taste, but the untreated vocal at 2:21sounded better. I believe that because while it was indeed "controlled", sometimes control isn't the best thing. I might have tried cutting below 85 Hz. and going light on the high end. A compander (compressor/expander) is a quick way to tame the dynamics, but there is such a thing as "too smooth" or "too tame".
    There is a pitch controller (auto-tune) that becomes even more apparent when the controls are applied.
    Then again, I'm a dinosaur from the old Motown/Philly mixing days, and the current generation seems quite OK with the extreme processing happening nowadays, but as a matter of taste alone, I find that I miss the dynamics, that extra something that lets the emotion come out.
    You might want to check out Lisa Fisher's live version of "How Can I Ease The Pain", or even more OG, the Fifth Dimension's "One Less Bell" for examples of smooth without being so smooth that the emotion is processed out.
    Still, it's a matter of taste, your is just as good as mine. At any rate, a very good video, keep up the good work!

      You’re judging out of context so you’re doing it wrong.

    • @brianbatie6650
      @brianbatie6650 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jaxon4080 I recorded, mixed and mastered a Singapore vocalist, Umi Yushida. The CD "The Way We Were" took top spot on Ars Technica's audiophile list for two years running, so I do have some experience, I apply as little processing as I can to preserve the finer details of a voice, only natural room reverb, very light compression, and EQ roll off at 90 Hz. That's all.
      I balance and listen first, to "taste the food first before deciding if seasoning is needed" Like I said, I'm a dinosaur, this generation doesn't miss those finer details, they're used to highly processed mp3s now. But I personally do miss the "Jurassic music"..

    • @jaxon4080
      @jaxon4080 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@brianbatie6650 you’re still comparing jazz to a pop vocal, but I will agree with you that this current generation of music, 22 years after you mixed and mastered that song, is more focused on vocal clarity and detail and that’s exactly what multi band comp is great at. Is it wrong? No. Is it proper? No. But it is a distinct sound that is heavily sought after. Wish I could find that song and actually hear what you did. Either way congrats on the placement back in the day, you got the creds on Discogs so you’re not just flapping your mouth.

    • @brianbatie6650
      @brianbatie6650 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jaxon4080 I still mix, master and produce recordings in several countries, including Nederland, Germany, FRrance, Belgium, even Singapore, Indonesia, and even China and across all "genres", be it rock, pop, jazz, even Malayan Dangdut, K-pop, and Chinese opera. I posit that the compressed sound is not necessarily "sought after" by consumers, but is rather forced upon the market by "gatekeepers" who not only determine who you hear, but also what they sing,, and how they sound. The record I referred to was "Umi Yushida The Way We Were", Of course there are many other albums I have produced, mixed, and or mastered, I find that I can get "smooth vocals" without companding, I find it to be more personal, authentic, and my clients come to me for that sound.
