As a kid that grew up in elementary school DYING to come home and play Toontown, I've been off and on playing Rewritten for years and it's incredible they're still active on updates and adding new stuff. Not to mention the community is still very much alive.
You'd love corporate clash then. It's rebuilt from the ground up meaning no leftover needless grind, an extra gag track and tons of quality of life changes like being able to use a mouse to look around
My younger brother and I bonded over this game so much. I had never played anything like it. Honestly I haven't ever thought of it as an MMO but of course it is.
I used to play Rewritten a ton when it first came out publicly, maxed the Sellbot and Cashbot bosses and finished most of the other endgame content that was avaliable at the time. I just logged on for the first time since about 2017 and tbh the playerbase has sadly dwindled significantly, I distinctly remember there being 6-7k online every night back in like 2014-16 and the most I saw now was like 2k. I also noticed most of the players I encounter now are either lower level (probably playing for some nostalgia like yourself) or people who've maxed nearly everything over the years and just still play for the love of the game lol. But you're right, 1k players average for a 10 year old private server of a 20 year old game is still pretty impressive. Shame theres no real way to attract more people anymore though. I just don't think people have the appetite for grinding like they used to haha.
I can say for sure that I've played Rewritten since about a year after it came out. I strongly recommend sticking through the base game and getting into the later content too, the later part of the games are sometimes boring but they are also pretty fun to come back to every once and a while and being 127 Laff (out of 140), I can say that the newest update they added was even more quests and they just announced even more stuff coming such as a change to the boss suit grinds along with a new playground and task line in the works.
Im so stoked for that!!! Were getting new regional managers New beachfront playground Entirely new streets A boatload of tasks Brand new npcs to talk to And maybe even new cog types! On top of all this the graphics are being reworked and smoother animations! Im gonna be full from eating it up...
@@Joestar_Jay i know this comment is super old, but ttr staff has confirmed on discord that the update is coming before september! no official date though

We recently got an announcement for some revamp content after this video dropped. You should definitely see what the "Under New Management" update brings to the Cog HQs' side areas, once it drops!
The toontown rewritten community is very wholesome! I was a beta tester for toontown rewritten and I remember I would leave my computer running for over 24 hours waiting in the queue to play because I love it so much.
I loved playing this game... time to boot it up again! Also, I want to say I really appreciate this overview of the game, you explained it from the ground up in a way that would catch anyone's attention
I remember playing this game in my childhood, played before rewritten, i miss online, I would always play with my friends, don't know where they are now, good times back then.
Two of the greatest Anime betrayals in ToonTown: 1) When a toon sees you in a cog fight and teleports away via black hole 2) When your doodle doesn’t perform a trick properly in battle and is unable to heal you Use to race home from school growing up just to play this game for hours!
I was obsessed with toontown but broke and couldnt afford the membership so i never got far now im playing and i love it im 23 and its so fun a bit repetitive at times with the tasks that make you run back and forth for half an hour
I also grew up playing runescape and still play oldschool a few times a year. My wife grew up playing ToonTown and when she discovered rewritten, she got hooked again as an adult. I downloaded the game and tried it for the first time, and it's been a very pleasant experience. You can tell the creators (revivers?) of rewritten care deeply about the game and the playerbase. It's not a game that requires you to think a whole lot which I like.
I used to play RuneScape too, toontown is my favorite tho. First started playing back in 2004 only a few months after being made. Haven’t played in years but I did get into ttr and ttcc. About to get back to it
"I thought that world of warcraft was the first one, that sorta just led the charge..." Fun fact, Everquest came out in 1999, years before WoW. WoW was released in late 2004.
I loved this game as a kid my dad let me play it until he realised it was an online game and thrn i wasnt allowed to play it anymore.for internet saftey reasons coz ofc i was a child. I was so sad but im glad my dad said no to keep me safe from any online damgers i would have been too young to understand. Ive been playing dysmey dreamlight valley which made me suddenly think of this game!
what is the game at 0:06 seconds? i played it when i was young but i haven't been able to remember the name for years. seeing this footage unearthed a memory lol.
Same here. The only memory of me seeing the game was when my cousin was playing it and I was passively watching for like 30 min when I was 9. its called Fusionfall
BROOO. I remember making a free account as a kid and played on my crappy Toshiba laptop for hours. Even saved up $56 for a membership account to make it past the pay walls they had. And after that every day when I got home grinded on it till 1 am.
Man Idk what made me think of this game but boyyyyy!! I used to spend hours on this game, a military game that was on the computer and you could link up with friends and play, some pirate online game, runescape, another game I cant think of where you had elemental powers (a bit cartoony) and you went around the online game and fought off other ogres, vampires, monsters, etc. and you could rank up get new moves and team members. I cant think of the name for last game to save my life or think of the name for the military game. Ill comment under this whenever I dod find it lol. Watching this video brought back so many memories. 😂 I literally almost blew out our home desktop because of how many hours I spent on these games.
Man the beginning of the vid has me screamin EVERQUEST EXISTS lmao wow was literally an eq clone but people seem shocked to find out the genre existed beforehand
I remember this game when it first came out and I always wanted to play it but everytime I got the chance I would get into it then my PC would start acting up for some reason or wouldn’t have no interest connected anymore
For me, it's just not the same, you know? I appreciate it and think it's still cool, but it's not as fun as it used to be, I guess because I'm an adult now, idk. And one thing I dislike about it is that everyone gets the membership, you don't have to buy the membership cards, it takes the challenge/fun out of the game
I used to LOVE this game when I was 12 🥲 I would play it with my middle school crush. Her and I spent hours on this game. I became more obsessed with it. I would love to get back into this game with and if there is anyone interested in joining me let me know
