I went back and watched the opening of Resurrection and started DYING at the scene of Michael banging on Laurie's door. It looks like something my 14 year old self would have made on Sony Vegas.
Love your breakdown of H20. We’re very much on the same page..I felt like you were reading my thoughts. I still get chills too. This film got great reviews when it was released, but seems to be underrated these days. But as you said, the opening, Jamie’s performance, Laurie’s trauma, the cast, Will’s death…all absolutely brilliant. Great video as always 👏
I may have commented this same statement on another video but I genuinely enjoy it. Remove the comedic aspects and you have a pretty good Halloween film. 1. Since Halloween 2 no other sequel (at the time) could accurately depict the Myers house. 2. The Rendition of theme song is easily one of the better themes to ever come out the franchise. 3. After the terrible mask mishaps in H20 the Mask in Resurrection is easily one of the better ones especially when lit in low light lighting. 4. Brad Loree’s performance as Myers is definitely a memorable one imo as he definitely has movements similar to both Castle and Warlock. 5. Most fans tend to overlook Laurie’s death in this film and chock it up to bad writing but what most fans don’t know is that JLC is the one who wanted to be killed off, originally she was gonna commit suicide however she decided to change that into what we actually see on screen. I also like the hidden theme behind her death as it shows that the character could never truly escape evil. 6. The cliffhanger ending definitely set up another sequel and this timeline as a whole definitely could’ve been expanded upon and most likely would’ve had John Tate return as our main protagonist which was planned for an unmade sequel known as “Halloween Retribution” which I’m currently in development of a fan film adaptation. Halloween Retribution is an upcoming Halloween Resurrection sequel fan film based on the unmade sequel of the same name, rewritten by Jaheim Brisbane and co-written by Cohen Clark. The film will also be directed by Jaheim Brisbane. The plot synopsis is as follows. After the events of Halloween Resurrection, Michael Myers roams free around Haddonfield, haunting the survivors of his previous massacre and traumatizing a new generation, while Laurie Strode's son, John Tate, travels to Haddonfield with the belief that the Shape is still alive and seeks out Leigh Bracket to exact vengeance on the masked killer.
Ranking the Halloween endings sounds like a lot of fun! I agree the H2) ending is probably the most badass FU Michael moment in the series, Laurie was so over the masked maniac by then lol.
I heard somewhere that the retcon of H20 with the paramedic was filmed at the same time they filmed H20, like they knew they were going to throw the whole ending away and make another sequel eventually
I saw Resurrection on AMC when I was in middle school back in 2006 or so. I didn't know much of the franchise and thought it was alright. I like the beginning alot
“Halloween 2” is almost a perfect sequel. Even though Laurie is bedridden half of the film, it adds to the slow-burn horror of the film. After all she’s strung out on morphine and painkillers; she’s not going to put up the kind of fight she could have in the first film because she’s so banged up. That said, “H20” feels like a victory lap for a franchise that ushered in the slasher boom and had enough lore and mystique to stand the test of time and it brilliantly honored the big bad of the franchise with giving us some good scares, showcased why Jamie Lee Curtis is the ultimate scream queen and it helped usher in a new crop of young actors that have made a huge impact in Hollywood with their filmography. They should have stopped there, or simply bankrolled a remake, but we got “Resurrection.” Not a terrible film; it is quite fun and the concept is tonally pretty great, but the execution is just shoddy and they clown The Shape a lot in the film. But Mad Blood is right, “Halloween Ends” completely disrespected Myers and likely put the franchise on ice for a while. Here’s hoping we get a “perfect” trilogy/tetralogy in the future for this franchise.
Great video as always! It always blows my mind when people trash the Stan Winston h20 mask and the Resurrection mask. They're golden compared to some others we've had before it
@@ImVxpour The biggest grim many people actually have is, that they had the god damn Curse mask from H6, the best (after the OG) and coolest looking mask in the franchise and they dumped it for a mask that lets Michael look anything but scary. The first scene he's in when he's wearing the H6 mask looks so cool and he is scary and menacing looking and then for the rest of the movie he looks like someone dressing up with a too small mask.
I will say it makes more sense than Halloween ends When he was locked up in a maximum-security sanitarium, she acted like she was a doomsday prepper Then when he actually is out and no one can find them, but they know he’s not dead. She lives in a normal house. For as much as people hate Cory that part made zero sense
The mask in the opening scene is the Halloween 6 mask, I heard somewhere that they filmed that scene then decided that they didn't want anything to do with H6 for this new timeline so new masks were made
That's actually true. Also H20 was written as Halloween 7: The Return of Laurie Strode and it was only decided for it to not be a sequel to H6 when they already began filming. That's why you can still see tons of hints to the OG timeline's events (like Laurie's "death" being a car crash, Loomis surviving the explosion just to die of natural courses (which only makes sense with H4-H6 in the picture), Michael having close to no scars from the explosion (also only makes sense with his COT powers),...). There was even supposed to be a scene in which Laurie talks about Jamie and blames herself for her daughter's death, believing for years that Jamie was safer, if she was away from Laurie (because Laurie thought Michael was only after her and not his entire family).
It’s so sad because so many people are quick to say Brad Loree is a bad Myers…I honestly think he’s a better Myers than Durand. He just got stuck in Resurrection
I have some nostalgia for H20, because it was my first Halloween film I saw in theaters. The ending is badass and definitive, and I refuse to acknowledge that Resurrection exists. Nonetheless, this one is a product of its time, and, IMO, 90s slashers left a lot to be desired.
"I grew up in Langdon, and even there, we knew the stories - the legends of the mid-west bogeyman. Michael Myers, the little boy who killed his sister, Judith, on Halloween night. Exactly fifteen years later, he escaped and slaughtered over a dozen people. They told everyone he was dead, but they never caught him, never found a body. As children, we even believed he wouldn't die. There were always whispers - whispers that became screams when summer gave way to fall."
I always took him giving the knife to the clown guy as just a sly way of putting the blame on him. The guy was obviously nuts, so now everyone will just think he did it.
I watched Resurrection yesterday it wasn’t a bad movie to watch while I had a hour and half left at work and didn’t want to waste that time on another good Halloween movie
This is the HALLOWEEN H2O timeline, not the Resurrection since the new continuity started with that movie. H:R is only the last movie of it. Kevin Williamson isn't credited regarding H2O because he only wrote an outline based on Robert Zappia's initial script without Laurie and a copycat killer. It is odd though since according to Robert, Dimension was keen on getting Kevin's name attached to the project officially but I guess he couldn't write the script for some reason so Robert came back and did touch ups instead based on Kevin's ideas. As far as H:R goes, it's set in 2001 and then 2002. All the stuff with the college students is a year after the opening though they don't state it, but they do mention The Osbournes TV show which debuted in March 2002 and all the firebird car scenes are removed Michael used to get back to the house after killing Laurie when everything was initially set in the time frame days apart. I agree the title sequence (not opening credits) is horrible and looks extremely generic. The trailer gave a much better "Halloween: Resurrection" display which they should have added to the opening credits. Hell, even the "Halloween: The Homecoming" title display from the workprint version looks better. You can partially blame JLC for how the movie turned out because she only wanted to do a cameo and not a full main role again. Also, if Moustpha wasn't so hell bent on keeping Michael around following H2O, they could have went a copycat killer route because that paramedic switcheroo didn't cut it for me. They could have went as far as to retain the initial H2O story beat of Michael being a copycat killer, explaining why he has no scars from the H2 fire, so the Michael here would be the real deal with the scars and thus, they can get around that lack of scar issue. This movie would have to develop more on who that killer was though and why they went after Laurie. The movie also should have utilized John Tate. Sara Moyer is a good character, but why introduce this new lead Laurie 2.0 successor when she has a son that could have been in this spot instead? He relocates to Haddonfield to be in college and also to hunt down his uncle. Boom. So yeah, rather a missed opportunity that character was just done away with. If Josh Hartnett didn't want to come back, well then recast. I don't think anyone would have cared about that since Josh wasn't that appealing to fans to not mind seeing someone else in the role. We've recast characters before like Tommy, Dr. Wynn, and even Jamie Lloyd so this could have gone by swiftly too.
