I can’t imagine after all the hours of setting to then add hours of editing. Such perseverance. Great editing overall and fun use of fast forward to show how much perspiration goes with the inspiration.

Thank you very much. Setting is a lot of fun, but there is also a lot of frustration in there, and I think the edit Tris did did a good job of communicating that!

A great learning resource for a sudoku fan who's keen to get into setting puzzles. I love that you left in the mistake with addition to 16. As someone with a fascination with number theory who had to drop out of A-level maths having made 6/2 = -5 in the middle of a horrendously complicated algebraic equation, it's heartening to see that someone who is so good at puzzle setting can make an arithmetic mistake and recover to make such a wonderful sudoku, so thank you for leaving that in.

Oh yes, my arithmetic skills are not very consistent, but so far that hasn't stopped me!

Pretty sure I remember seeing this puzzle on CTC a few weeks ago. If I'm right it was a great puzzle.

This one and "Keep talking and no one explodes" are my all time favorite CTC videos. Two absolutely stunning puzzles. Seeing the process behind this is just awesome. Thank you for your work and dedication, you are an absolute genius!

Thank you very much! I greatly appreciate the praise. And I was VERY happy that after choosing to set this one on camera it turned out to be one of my favorite puzzles I've made, and possibly actually my favorite. I like this one so much I have a poster printout of it in my office, in part because thinking back to Simon's birthday solve of it makes me smile!

I was very much looking forward to this video after I solved the puzzle right after it came out on LMD. I haven't watched the whole of it yet because it is quite long, but I'm already enjoying it very much because we get to see how the ideas and connections between them appear in your mind while creating. What amazes me the most is that very good intuition you have developed and that helps you feel about what might work or not, what might break the puzzle, what might make it too tough or boring or too trivial... Watching this is almost as good as solving the puzzle itself !

@ 3:46:00, instead of using a shaded square to disambiguate the direction of the last blue killer box, you could have added a white dot on the bottom of r7c4. The purple killer cage in r7 sums to 13; the dot on the four would have forced the 1 & 8 in c4 and 3 in c5 to form another killer cage (summing to 12, and includes the requisite 3 for the 3-cell killer cage!). This would force the direction of the bottom blue cage up on the right hand, as you had intended.

This is a very interesting suggestion and certainly one I didn't consider!

Did you consider another dot to disbiguate the final 38 pattern?
There is a very handy 389 in row 9 that adds to 20. Would this work?
Absolutely loved this video. Have always loved watching Simon solve your puzzles on CTC, and this is next level amazing to watch ❤🎉

I was thinking the same thing! And then you’d put a black dot in between that and the 7 and 9 in row 9, it fits beautifully!

3:18:10 I think it was possible to take 7 below green 8. Am I correct?
