I am so glad I was able to meet him. He came into the store I was working in between 1981 and 1983 in Santa Rosa, CA. I treated him like any other customer, but of course a little star struck. I did not ask him for any autograph or performance, and this was long before cell phones and cameras. But as I was writing up his order, getting his card approved, he began to perform anyway. Making silly noises and jokes, almost like he felt like he NEEDED to make me laugh to gain my approval. I wish I had told him then that it wasn't necessary.
After that, my life had so many sychronicities with his. He came back a couple weeks later when I wasn't working, even though we didn't have what he wanted the first time. I watched one of his movies on my wedding night. My first child's name was the same as a lead character in one of his movies that came out that same year. My other child shares a name with another of his children. There are more, but then I find out that he dies again on my wedding anniversary. I think I've scoured the internet for every clip about him I could find.
They give a good glimpse behind the smiling mask. There is a scene in a Mork and Mindy episode where they meet Robin Williams. And the Robin in that scene, is pretty close to what he was really like. At least, that is what he told an interviewer.

It's been a little over a year, and even just thinking about Williams, about the impact he had on my own life, the space he took up in my childhood watching Mork and Mindy on Nick at Nite, Dead Poets Society, Aladdin. Never before have I loved a person so much that I'd never met in person, a man who felt like a genuine friend. The one good thing to come from his far-too-early exit from this world was discovering that there were so many people who felt the same way as me, that he was everyone's best friend-they-never-met. Thank you, Robin. I'm still mourning your loss as profoundly as they day we lost you.

5:51 I think that was a real ode to comedic timing and to how quality is more important than quantity
Robin Williams, a genius in his own right, acted out a whole scene illicited laughs, then in three words Johnny Winters makes everyone absolutely piss themselves "All this money". Just... perfectly timed

It has been widely reported that Robin Williams was suffering the beginning stages of diffuse Lewy body disease or Lewy body dementia. According to reports. Before Robin Williams death he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. The Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA) has a clarification of Robin Williams autopsy report . In that they state "Lewy bodies are misfolded protein deposits found in the brains of
individuals with several different disorders including Parkinson’s
disease (PD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) In early PD, Lewy bodies are generally limited in distribution, but in
DLB, the Lewy bodies are spread widely throughout the brain, as was the
      case with Robin Williams."
LBD is devastating. It can initially present in individuals with varying and differing symptoms. (Which is one of the reasons it's hard to diagnose) Like lack of control over body movements. And/or consuming depression and paranoia.
There needs to be more awareness about Lewy body disease.
But by the accounts that have sourced and researched their reporting. It's commonly mentioned that Robin Williams wife was supportive and trying to help Robin battle a disease they weren't fully aware of.
      Lewy body disease won.

When Robin died, it impacted me more than any death I've ever experienced.( That sounds like I've died...not what I meant. Seemed smarter in my head...). seriously tho, I was more devastated than when my grandma died (I didn't say I was a good person) ...yeah as a kid born in 88 his movies just seemed to guide me through my young Life. Movies like Hook, Aladin, and especially Mrs Doubtfire as my parents were going through a divorce and I could relate. Then I got older and he was still there, funny in death to Smoochie and thoughtful like his character in Good Will Hunting. Then I watched his stand up, and he just kept popping up in my life. I watched him on inside the Actors Studio and he even made an appearance in my favorite show Louie. Its as if he helped me grow, and I always had a sense that he really truly cared about people. I guess I'm just grateful for the guy he was

This is a somewhat random comment in 2021, I know. Writing a comment to let you know that I come back to this video about twice a year and it is one of my favourite things on the internet. It is a beautiful, thoughtful and mindful approach to grief. I was 18 when Robin died, and grew up watching him and was so heart broken by his death. Since then I have gone through death of people close to me and coming back to this video reminds me of how to be mindful with my grief - remember what was precious about them and why the loss hurts now, instead of just feeling that hurt without the love that caused it. Thank you.

I ... remember that day. I like this little movie web. The guy who runs it summed it up perfectly that morning. "You're waking into a world without Robin Williams." ...and sure it's a colder one. I needed to see this video, because despite all I'm happy for Robin. To me a kindered spirit is the best thing world can offer you. It's ironic. They come and go throughout life. When you find a new one, world is exciting again. And it hurts for years, when they go or drift away. But the time you are blessed to spend with a kindered spirit, that's the time worth livng for. That's the gold of life. And I'm happy for Robin he got have that. ❤

    Dedicated to Robin Williams:
The humble stand-up made the world laugh.
    I improvised every second.
    He easily brought to tears
    Your viewer and your listener
    Robin Williams pedaled.
    And maneuvered through his life.
Yes ... His path was not sinless
There is versatility, you can't turn away from it
Good-naturedly and energetically he lived on Earth
I flew to the soldiers in the war.
Responded to requests from his fans
People like him are not born twice
From "Happy Days" to "This is a fucking Christmas miracle"
Many different roles have been played.
Actor Robin Williams of various plans
    From comedies to snot
    Loved children and rare books
    Bicycles and computer games.
Was also a geek of cinema
    Collected what touched him
    No conviction from suicide
He could no longer make peace with himself.
    Losing memory and self-control
Robin settled the score and left bitterly ...
Robin's creativity does not fade away.
He lives in the hearts of fans.
Probably laughing with the Almighty in the sky
Robin Williams will never stop ...

At 4:53 Williams voice sounds the same as the air stewardess in Aladdin that he voiced as the genie "Thank you for choosing magic carpet for all you travel needs."

I grew up with Williams, not Winters, but it was great to learn about his talent and inspiration for the great Robin Williams. They should carve his story on an obelisk, akhain, and akhain, and akhain!

I had watched only a few movies of Williams just before joining college. When the news of his death surfaced, I couldn't believe it. All the funny scenes, his speech in the dead poets society, they all looked like a scream for help. It hits differently when a funny guy kills himself.

18 thousand likes and 69 dislikes. This is the first video I dare saying that the 69 dislikes were people who tried clicking the like through tears and missed it.
This is Robin Williams: a man loved by everyone and forever missed by each and every single one of us. A man who used his happiness to make others smile and didn't have any left for himself.❤️ Suicide is not a joke nor is it commited by the weak or the cowards - it's a real illness that distorts the world around you. He was loved and adored yet he couldn't see it through his 'darkness glasses'.
If you're feeling suicidal, please reach out for help. If you feel like you have nothing to lose by leaving then wait a little and call a loved one, a friend or a hotline. If suicide is the only option for you right now, why rush something that can't be undone? Give it time, learn something new, meet new people, pick up that hobby that you left behind. You've got nothing to lose, right? Worst case scenario, you've found no new meaning. Most likely scenario, you've found joy in living again, even if only a little.
    RIP Robin Williams
