Good night! I’ve lived in a dodecahedron house for the past 41 years (bought it when we were 21-27 yo)! Ours is a triple pod with one pod being three stories. It was stick built by a builder here for himself in 1969-1970. We gutted it and reconfigured it in 1997 and still love the old gal! Hit us up if you need any input working some out some bugs. They are challenging but are loads of fun! Come visit us! We’d love to give you a tour and our perspective of the years of living round! You are on point with the trim! Too many angles and too many breaks for the eye. One color trim and doors are the way to go! Our walls are open at the top and we were told by an architect to not close them during reno bc it is disconcerting to spatial relationships. Bothers some people that the bathroom walls are open at the top but doesn’t bother us at all.

Plus HOmedepot sells door kits to up grade your doors. Cant weight to see what you guys have planned for your new property.
Love the unique look of the house. I don't mind the blue. Location of the laundry is strange. You have to go into the spare room to do it. So if someone is hanging out in there or sleeping they have to put up with someone doing their laundry or the machine running.

With your interest in cleaning up waste and potentially not creating as much, I wanted to share a product a girl I knew from high school created, The Repaint Tray. You can purchase them from Lowes now if you're interested! It gets rid of the one use plastic lines for paint trays and keeps your paint fresh for days with the cover for multiday paint or primer projects.
Oh man that sounds amazing!! We will have to look it up for sure! Even aside from the plastic waste which is bad enough, those plastic paint trays just SUCK in general 😂 they seem to never fit the metal holder, they slide around, they cave in, etc. Would definitely be open to trying a better solution especially if it takes the single use waste out!! May I suggest the stihl blower model number BR800 C-E. Your blower is severely underpowered, and that leafy matter isn't going to get any less leafy. May I also suggest rinoboard, which is a rolled cardboard product to protect those hardwood floors. Home Depot carries it. I've been the construction industry for decades. Remodeling bathrooms and kitchens was my specialty. If you should need any pointers or advice I would not mind giving you guys my opinions. Oh and by the way. Congratulations, you got yourself a mortgage. 😂

Happy New Year guys! It looks like you have a halfway decent sized crawlspace to work in for the renovations on the cabin/rental property, DEFINITELY be better than working while swimming! Something you may want to do after you get the subfloor/plumbing/electrical/HVAC up to specs (assuming ALL of the support joists are in great shape) is to spray the bottom of the sub-floor with closed cell foam. Personally I would do the same thing to the bottom of the roof decking as well if that is in good condition.

I built my home with my own hands and no hired labor on the nights and weekends after working for my boss during the week. I did it debt free. It's a 5,342 sq. ft. geodesic dome home with ten sides. Yours has eight sides. Mine is three stories with a half story for the entrance so three and a half stories. It's a 50' diameter and a 20' diameter dome connected together. I love the wood ceilings in it. It's all open for the most part. Your home is very nice looking and the framing looks very solid. If your lot is large enough and the county allows you to build a detached mother in law or ADU than I would do that for a double income. You could also build a post frame 40x60 shop like RR Buildings builds and rent out all three structures separately to maximize your property and then do that again on another property and so on and so forth. It's more profitable to rent than it is to build and sell.
Protect the good bones from any tree that could fall on it, depending on prevailing winds. Even a healthy tree can fall if a critter digs under the roots on a steep embankment. If the winds get up to 40 mph, i still get paranoid😅 but I dont sleep in a room where the tree might fall on the house, better to be safe than sorry if you have money for tree removal?
That shower was like a closet. Could you get bath fitter to help you out? They might sponsor your remodel? The discount they gave you covered the leak at least. At least there was no termite damage😅
They used particle board for flooring, so it can crumble apart with getting wet just 1 time; should've never been used in home construction and I'm pretty sure is banned for flooring. Branden, you better be careful removing that corner post in the shower, could be load bearing. Can't wait to see the fi wished product.

She lived in a rental "rondelette" house on the side of the mountain, up in the woods, which reminds me of your "Smurf house." Ya'll are gonna be so happy when it's done and the money starts rolling in. Congratulations on your new house! I would pant it an decorate it like a Tiki hut theme, because of it's shape. A suggestion , put brush type leaf guards in the rain gutters. Cleaning out the the gutters every year is no fun!
If I owned that place, I would replace all the flooring with wood flooring except for the bathroom which I would tile. I would also make sure that the ceiling has enough insulation in it. When you replace the flooring, your also going to have to replace the baseboard and what I would do is stain grade wainscot on the walls to spice it up.

As you said, they built a product that could take storms and was strong, tight and easy to build. Sorry to see the water damage but, if the joists are good it can all be repaired. You could also build a post frame 40x60 shop like RR Buildings builds and rent out all three structures separately to maximize your property and then do that again on another property and so on and so forth. It's more profitable to rent than it is to build and sell.

Protect the good bones from any tree that could fall on it, depending on prevailing winds. Even a healthy tree can fall if a critter digs under the roots on a steep embankment. If the winds get up to 40 mph, i still get paranoid😅 but I dont sleep in a room where the tree might fall on the house, better to be safe than sorry if you have money for tree removal?

They used particle board for flooring, so it can crumble apart with getting wet just 1 time; should've never been used in home construction and I'm pretty sure is banned for flooring. Branden, you better be careful removing that corner post in the shower, could be load bearing. Can't wait to see the fi wished product.

So exciting! I have to say, I don't hate the navy blue tile in the shower. They just used too much. Maybe you should keep a few pieces to use as contrast when you do the new shower. Just a thought... I do love the house, though! I have a friend who lived in Asheville when we were in college. She lived in a rental "rondelette" house on the side of the mountain, up in the woods, which reminds me of your "Smurf house." Ya'll are gonna be so happy when it's done and the money starts rolling in. Because, seriously, everybody wants to rent a cool house like that for a vacation getaway, or a honeymoon getaway, or even just a weekend away from the work grind. Yes ma'am, it's gonna be great!

Congratulations on your new house! I would pant it an decorate it like a Tiki hut theme, because of it's shape. A suggestion , put brush type leaf guards in the rain gutters. Cleaning out the the gutters every year is no fun!
We used a cheater bar and got behind the tile and the entire sheet of tile would fall down…. Super easy!
If I owned that place, I would replace all the flooring with wood flooring except for the bathroom which I would tile. I would also make sure that the ceiling has enough insulation in it. When you replace the flooring, your also going to have to replace the baseboard and what I would do is stain grade wainscot on the walls to spice it up.
Given those thoughts, I think you are going to like this remodel series! 😉👀

Just moments into the video I wanted to write but, held off till the end. Years back I looked at Deltec Homes. As you said, they built a product that could take storms and was strong, tight and easy to build.
Sorry to see the water damage but, if the joists are good it can all be repaired.

When you replace your shower, use the Schluter method. There are many videos about it on TH-cam.
The carpet eliminates the Echo
in rooms.
It’s a rental, not a recording studio! 🤪 this house ain’t big enough for an echo in any room regardless of flooring haha. But carpet is just a nightmare to keep clean & sanitary in a rental, especiallyyy if we decide to allow dogs.
