That neon blue and pink lighting on the ICS show set was nothing short of awesome. And just one of the many things of the future this show predicted. Like e-cigarettes and appliances with computers.
@@b.entranceperium terminator is definitely up there trust me lol I just think that the running man personally has a better soundtrack that sticks to my mind.
I know the term "remake" is looked down upon, however there is so much more that could have been mined from this IP. A Running Man Returns TV show that looks like a fake reality show could be interesting.
I recommend reading the book. Even if you're not a book person, it's short, not a complicated read, and a total page turner. Basically some guy living in the poor part of town goes to apply to be on the game show network. He's chosen for Running Man, which is their deadliest game. He's given a 12 hour head-start before anyone starts looking for him and a significant cash advance. If he gets caught, he's killed on the spot. His estate gets more money for every hour he stays alive, and if he makes it to 30 days then he wins the game. While he can go anywhere in the world, anyone who spots him can phone in his location for a cash prize. If you've read the Long Walk, then Running Man feels very similar in concept and tone
Even though "The Running Man" is one of King's more underappreciated works, it is, as you say, a total page turner. This is the only one of the Bachman books I've read, but you make me want to look into the other ones as well. The short story collection "Full Dark , No Stars", I can really recommend if you happen to have missed it. They are perfect bed-time stories.
@@Imnottheborough The Long Walk is a great study in psychology. These kids are in competition against each other, to the death... and yet they forge genuine, solid friendships with each other.
Top film, I remember watching it as a young teen in the late 80s. Loved it from that first viewing and surprisingly it is one of those films that I don't mind rewatching whenever it is on!
Dunno why it's not mentioned or shown, for some reason it's largely forgotten. But it's one of his best movies and it's a great movie The Running Man is in my collection
Film is set in 2017 and Killian mentioned the big quake of 97, I love how accurate the idea of US government just doing nothing with wasteland destroyed by a massive Earthquake for over 2 decades. Bang on the money.
Dawson was well known for playing Corporal Peter Newkirk in Hogan's Heroes, as a regular panelist on Match Game ,1973-78, and as the original host of Family Feud 1976-85, 1994-96.
Film’s good on its own terms, but it’s got very little to do with the book besides the death game premise, and even that is heavily altered. But Stephen King was definitely thinking far ahead 👍🏻
I think he was making some commentary on economic equality and it’s relationship to how we consume media/the way the US prison system works in regards to poverty
As Weiss, Locklen, and Richards are meeting Stevie scenes of the Running man movie are playing on the billboard screen showing the runners including Amber being attacked by the Stalkers. The scene where Richards and Amber are facing Dynomo her hair is shown and her body.
Or you could go conspiracy and say that the government knew from the beginning that Ben Richard’s was going to say no to killing all those people (even if he did ig they could use that) and then they moved amber in knowing he would come back to try and get his things.
It's been a while since I read the novel, but it was quite different. I remember even Stephen King saying that the Ben Richards in the novel was malnutritioned and showing signs of tuberculosis and he was quite surprised to see an ex Mr Olympia, Arnold Schwarzenegger, playing that character. Not to say that didn't enjoy the movie. I remember seeing it with my cousin Patrick when we were in junior high.
I enjoyed this movie immensely. When you watched the reality TV show you wondered what was actually real and what was fake because some things were faked.
Actually, the movie has almost nothing to do with the book except for the title and the most basic outline of the concept. The film is an almost wholly original creation.
Yup. Other actors with no game show hosting experience would have needed to consult actual game show hosts to get it right. Richard Dawson was perfect (even if I never watched family feud at all)
Well there is a UK show called Hunted, they have to evade capture and have the entirety of the UK in which to hide. The hunters have yet to be equipped with chainsaws though…
0:43 what's that lady's name? I can't remember it. She was in some movie with Tom Selleck, maybe that 'Selleck Down Under' movie. She has one of those hyphenated names and she's latina, so it's something like Maria Consuela-Ramirez (or whatever). That is, if I'm remembering the right person, lol

Still the best comeback to that catchphrase I've ever heard.
GO!!!!!
He said "I'll be back" in Last Action Hero and the 2 Terminator movies.
He also said it in Commando
@@thegroove14 also in Twins
By far.
Richard Dawson just killed it in this role....
he is one of the best parts of the movie, he should have done more as i think it was his last film role also R.I.P
Secondo me è perfetto per la parte di Killian
Best Supporting Actor Oscar would have been very well deserved here.
That's because he was an actual game show host
Richard Dawson killed it with that one line to counter Arnold's famous, "I'll be back" with only in a rerun.. Lol
When Arnold says "I'll be back", you can count on it!
Only in a rerun.
Just ask the maid 🤠🙊🙉🙈👀
Jack Slater is coming back.
He comes back even if he isn’t a terminator.
The "I'll be back" is basically Arnold Schwarzenegger's trademarks

Richard Dawson was the only one who could defeat Arnie's comebacks.
Well that is until Arnie sent him flying into a sign post
"Well that hit the spot!"
True. But Richards DID come back.

To this day I still love the catch phrase “who loves you and who do you love!!!”.

Like the Tube Shuttle featured in Gene Roddenberry’s “Genesis II” pilot.
The 1980's. Best decade for these kind of Films...

I did not know this, but the “it’s time to start running!” And “On your marks, get set…GO!!” Were both sampled for Static X’s Terminator Oscillator.
