Interesting to note that the same countries prevented the back to backs. USA was the spoiler for India and Venezuela in the 90s and Philippines was the spoiler for Colombia and South Africa in the 2010s.

it’s also possible that the Philippines will (again) be the back-to-back blocker of India (2021-2022) this time. Philippines’ Celeste Cortesi is a strong contender for the Miss Universe crown this year.

I don’t think this 3 feat would ever happen. If they gave the crown to Tamaryn on 2018 edition, it will cost Zozi the crown. They would have given it to Madison. And don’t argue with me about Zozi’s performance. If we learn anything from 2020 edition it’s that the best performance on finals night doesn’t guarantee you the crown.

The basis of the MU winner at that time was response in the final word and the overall impression from the beginning until the end of the competition. I felt Manpreet's weak body of work (9th in the preliminary, 6th in the semifinal, 3rd in the Final 6) weighted bigger than her strong response?

I think India's back to back would have been so much worth. The two candidates were phenomenal in the pageant world, worthy of the first back to back ever. Venezuela's back to back were fine, but Sushmita- Manpreet deserved the Universe. Universe lost a gem of a MU in 1995.

The fact India won Miss Miss Universe and Miss World with Sushmita and Aishwarya in 94 and nearly did a back-to-back at Miss U in 95 with Manpreet is testament to just how strong India was in pageantry in the mid 90's. I remember watching Manpreet in 95 and thinking to myself India is going to win again after her final answer. She deserved it but then they announced USA and I couldn’t believe it 🤦🏽‍♂

In my opinion, Miss Japan 2006 was better than Miss Puerto Rico 2006. Only the evening gown of Miss Puerto rico was spectacular, which made her win.
Miss India 1995 gave a better answer than Miss USA 1995. Both of them were equally deserving. So no regrets thr.

There’s no denying Zuleyka was destined for stardom, but I have admit I was pretty bummed Kurara didn’t win. She had such an amazing energy, but I agree - the evening gown choices must’ve played a part. Zuleyka’s was just WOW, while Kurara’s was a little understated.

But in 2010, after that back-to-back, they were denied the 3-peat after they and U.S.A. were beaten by the Philippines for the last semifinal spot. Both Venezuela and U.S.A. are still the winningest countries in Miss Universe history, while the Philippines currently has the longest active semifinal streak at Miss Universe since that year and the longest winning streak of Big Four pageants in history.
