Who Owns the Most Big 6 Pageant Titles? (Part 2 of 3) TPN#28 (EN/ES subtitles)

- A total of 66 different countries have won at least one of the Big 6 beauty pageants - Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss International, Miss Earth, Miss Supranational and Miss Grand International.
But a very select group have won 10 or more titles in total. Which nations are they, and how have their fortunes changed over the years? All the answers are in Part 2 of my series, The Big 6 Showdown.

BEFORE YOU MAKE ANY COMMENTS ABOUT “BIG FOUR” vs. “BIG 6”, PLEASE READ BELOW!
Due to a number of people claiming that “there is only a Big Four” and there is no legitimacy in a “Big 6”, I’ve felt the need to state the following, even though it’s outlined in my videos in this series.
* Having researched this topic extensively - not only in recent months for these videos, but over my time as a pageant fan - I’ve yet to come across any OFFICIAL designation, as agreed by the four pageants themselves, that group them as the Big Four. Yes, the Big Four has managed to have its own Wikipedia page created, but in perusing the attributed sources in that page, the majority of them refer to the pageants as “the four biggest”, or “four of the biggest” pageants. True, there are a couple of media reports that mention the “Big Four”, but I have failed to establish why some people claim that there is the “Big Four” that has been universally and officially adopted, and nothing else.
* The “Big Four” grouping has MU, MW, MI and ME together, with many people criticising my choice of including MS and MGI due to their age. However, if you used longevity as a sign of prestige, you need to look at all six pageants that I have covered and compare their longevity:
* Miss World (1951): 70 years old
* Miss Universe (1952): 69 years old
* Miss International (1960): 61 years old
* Miss Earth (2001): 20 years old
* Miss Supranational (2009): 12 years old
* Miss Grand International (2013): 8 years old
* Based on the above data, you would naturally group Miss Earth with Miss Supranational and Miss Grand International, not with the other three. I’m not saying I do, but it’s unsure why some people call the two youngest pageants “so new”, when Miss Earth is much closer in age to those competitions than it is to Miss World, Universe and International
* Before you make a comment about the “Big Four” being legitimate, and not a “Big 6”, PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO! Why? Because, between 2:40 and 4:00, I explain my reasoning for covering these six pageants, where I also say that I respect everyone’s decision to use different classifications, in the absence of a grouping officially sanctioned by the pageants themselves
In summary, I don’t claim that the “Big 6” is a grouping of any substance - I merely chose them because they appear to be the most popular pageants of the moment. All these groupings have been created by and for pageant fans, which is great. However, given there is not an official designation established by the pageants, there is unfortunately no justification to claim that “there is only a Big Four”.
I’m not questioning the “Big Four”’s existence, rather disputing that it’s the “only” grouping around.
I could’ve also included other long-running pageants such as Miss Intercontinental and Miss Globe, but I haven’t followed them to date so I didn’t have enough knowledge to include them.

Hey James! I must admit I get an added kick out of knowing there are other pageant fans like me in Australia - we seem to be a rare breed! So glad you enjoyed the clip, and could sense my enjoyment in it. It may have been quite a production but one I really enjoyed a lot. And given that I had someone saying it was a “stupid video” because “you only have to Google to see there are only four major pageants” (🙄) it was especially nice to read your comment shortly thereafter. I have to say, I was more than a tad ticked off re the "stupid video" comments - even more so because you went to great lengths to explain why you were including the 6 (*sigh*) I guess you just can't make everyone happy all the time! Made perfect sense to me - as of now they would be the 6 biggest pageants in the world? I was really pleased you were able to add the extra 2 into all your amazing stats! Pay no attention to the naysayers - you are doing God's work! LOL
Must admit I am finding this lockdown, our 6th(!) a little hard going this time for some reason. Really hope you are doing ok there in Sydney, it's all quite a shock for you guys I'm sure. Wish we could just binge watch pageants for a couple of weeks - I'd be happy to do that! LOL

As an asian i am so happy that Philippines is there to raise the Asian Beauty.
But that's ironic considering Phillipines most celebrated recent victories look more European than Asian leading people to believe that we need caucasian features to be considered beautiful at a world platform. :-\

People abroad maybe surprised at how PH people are not exactly sporting the South East asian generic malay features among its people.. but within the country, diverse looks of the populace is just normal.
The problematic thing is that in recent years countries like the Philippines, Thailand and now even Indonesia has put more emphasis on mixed race women (specifically half Caucasian) as their chosen representative. This has huge social class and beauty standard implications. With Miss Universe’s recent focus of English inabilities, it has shut the doors of opportunity for so many regular southeast Asian women. Women who don’t fit the outdated beauty standards of having western features, women who were not educated in foreign institutions and women who are unable to speak the English language. It’s very problematic and it’s sad that not enough people are talking about this issue and discrepancies. Miss Universe claim to celebrate all women but their policies have alienated the vast majority of women, especially in poorer developing countries.
@@enticingmay435 these issues you bring up is exactly the ones that also plague Latin America. Judging by the representatives they collectively send throughout the years, you would think only Whites live in Latin America.

Replace Grand Internation al to Globe. MGI is not a pageant. It is just a contest.
The fact that Venezuela didnt even owned any of their beauty pageants nor winning a title at their homesoil except MGI19 which Venezuela deserved the crown.
I don't consider the Ms Grand International as Big pageant because it is always cooking show,unorganized and Bias.

Venezuela's lead looks insurmountable, a true powerhouse. 😲 USA on the other hand is only that successful due to sash factor mainly at Miss Universe, to keep tv ratings when it mattered alot in recent decades.
@@HamzooPineda especially in recent years. Why try when based on statistics you have a 90% or more chance of making the first cut? In the case of Miss USA and Universe the prizes are pretty much the same except the global travel (which doesn't seem to be a thing anymore).

Sadly Miss Intercontinental and Miss Globe have been around longer than Earth, Supranational and Grand. But they seem to lack the exposure.
Exactly they need to step up and gain more exposures in the media, the fans and the pageant countries.

Yes, that’s sad but true. It was a somewhat difficult decision to work out which pageants to include, but at the end of the day I went with those that currently the most popular and talked about.

@Anushek Sunil There were two separate Miss Globe pageants in 2016. One in Albania, and the other in the Dominican Republic. The Albanian pageant was won by an Indian, while the one in the Dom. Republic was won by a Filipino girl representing the USA.

PERHAPS only PERHAPS> Miss World is British and India was a former colony of England. Miss Universe is American and the Philippines was a former colony of USA. Thus, more corresponding wins, respectively. The first Miss Universe from Finland Armi Kuusela married a Filipino and lived in the Philippines. The first Miss International, Stella Marquez from Colombia, who married a Filipino and lived in the Philippines, became the national director of Miss International in the Philippines to date. Japan host to Miss International occupied the Philippines during the WW II. Perhaps these affinities mean something in the winning, too. I am from the Philippines.
Miss universe and world are quite honest but miss international, earth like pageants are little biased. To get recognition. Now date miss supranational and grand international overcomes miss international and earth. But I love earth one due to its advocacy it's should more productive like grand they achieve a lot in few years
But India is doing good in Universe too.We have 3 crowns which is just 1 less than the Phillipines.We are also at the top in MS while we have 0 history with Poland.
Philippines was occupied by Japan during WWII same time they occuppied nearly almost all of Asia from 1942 to 1945. I don't think there is anything peculiar here.

Perhaps one unassailable metric to determine the definitive Pageant list is by unanimity: Get a plurality of nations and franchises that consistently send official delegates to beauty contests and see if which pageants they unanimously recognise and see which crowns come up on top.

Misses world universe international are the 3 oldest. Intercontinental 1971 and globe in the 70s. In terms of prestige, longevity, number of participants, prizes, world and universe rule. International suffers from few participants. Earth and supranational have large number of participants. GI is too young. Why exclude intercontinental and globe?

Thanks, Jayesh! Really glad you enjoyed that bit. I chose those pieces of footage at the beginning because it included queens from different pageants appearing at the same time, along the lines of going “head to head” like the theme of the video series. I can imagine Andaaz was a huge film when it was released given Lara and Priyanka’s appearances in it?
@@PageantNerd Yes. That movie took bollywood by storm. Lara and priyanka were sensation back then and when it was announced that they will debut together, it was for sure that the movie will be a blockbuster and so it was. Further, both of them won best new comer and shared the award together.

Miss grand i think only serves as an entertainment for us. Most likely a tv show rather than an actual beauty pageant with a purpose. Thats just my opinion and how i feel watching MG. Nothing special aside from the issues & media attentionof course. But clearly, not on par with the five ive mentioned.

Why not make it "Big 8" instead of six only. Include Miss Intercontinental and Miss Globe which has been around since 1971 and 1988 respectively.
Hopefully, TPN will soon do Big 8. I am curious how the statistics look.

Because for the time being they seem to be one of the most talked about pageants. I know it has its critics for good reason but it does seem to gather a lot of attention. And in the absence of any official designations of what are the elite pageants we’ll invariably fail to arrive at any sort of consensus.
