Dear Mr. Banfield, what a truly marvelous singer and artist you are! You merit a privileged place in the line of great lyric tenors that runs from Edmond Clement and Louis Cazette to Leopold Simoneau and the young Gedda. Wow. WOW!
What I found most fascinating about your singing is how healthy and devoid of any pressure you produce your sound . You must have a really great teacher. They're not easy to find. Congratulations on them and on all the hard work and commitment it has taken so far to get to where you are.
Thank you, Blaine. I know, I understand your frustration! I will make a better quality recording of it one day, I promise. Many thanks for your kind words. Alex
Lovely, indeed. It has to take such an outstanding voice to make this song sound so congenital to me, vocally. Beautiful & Awesome I sure can find in a few other tenors, not vocally congenital.
Bravissimo come sempre e bellissimo timbro.
yes certainly. This is the best video of this. Excellent control and pronunciation. I understand every word, I'm in France. Where are you? English or American? Are you not yet professional? Seems that your voice is fresher. You're certainly younger than Talbot and Dubois. Keep singing so sublimely!
Beautifully controlled vibrato. Lovely. Sodding difficult aria shown who's boss. Fantastic. The cherry on the cake would have been ignoring the usual tenor willy-waving at the end and sticking to the score: long diminuendo on "charmant souvenir" that I reckon you could carry off brilliantly (from what I heard here). Nadir is supposed to fall asleep (more or less) at this point. Most tenors can't resist following the what is it? 2nd clarinet or something? Sorry, my score is in a box somewhere. Maybe it only works in context (I'm thinking of Alain Vanzo in the full recording). Anyway, please don't think I'm criticising: I really, really liked this recording. I get similarly grumpy at tenors (most of them) who take the soprano's line at the end of the 1st act duet in La Bohème.
Thank you for listening and for your kind words, David. You know, it's terrible but I didn't even think of not doing the high C at the end! Partly as it seems to have become ubiquitous and I'd hate it to seem like I chickened out! 😂 But I understand what you're saying. It would be much more tender and sweet with the long diminuendo. I'll try it out. I think performing it in concert would be a good opportunity to cut the high C, when there are other opportunities to sing them. Thanks again, Alex
Excellent singing my friend, you give a lot of chiaroscuro to your sound, I love how you gave more chest to the last note, you had perfectly appropriate register balance throughout. It reminded me of Alfredo Kraus in terms of the technique and color of the voice. I just had 2 minor suggestions, missing a bit of legato both times you go down from "ivresse" to "douleur". And then a slight nitpicking in terms of vocal production, I am not as convinced with your "i" sound as I am with the rest of your vowels, for example @1:20 or 2:32. Is that something that you also hear from your teacher? I am going to follow your channel! I would love to hear you sing more of Kraus répertoire in particular "Adieu, demeure chaste et pure"
Absolutely wonderful, just as you said ,I'm very glad I clicked to listen! Seems he must be a little younger. Looks like a music academy room and not yet a professional? Is he English or Americain? I'll listen again and keep this video in mind! At the moment the air is in my head, I'm soprano but this helps to work on breathing control, and too beautiful s tune to miss. The opera has been a little forgotten by these times but I think Nancy Opera House France did it this year. I was surprised. I'll have to look
Beautiful rendition! I need this on spotify ASAP ! Little advice from a french tenor, don't roll the letter R. I know we hear it a lot in recording, but that's a very old-fashioned way to sing french operas that was used for the wrong reasons.
Bonsoir, Antoine.
Congrats man ! You got What I can't., Very resonant voice.,clear projection ., I dream to be a tenor .,but I was not born to be one .,i will spend my life admiring the good one. Congrats.
Bravo, jeune homme! Et merci pour tant de talent!
Hermosa versión. Voz cristalina y sin falsete...una belleza.

Sincere. Touching. Mediating sheer music, not a person interfering. Thank you so much.
Properly sung and a beautiful lirico ligero tenor voice and French diction. Congratulations.
Beautiful. It takes guts and an incredible talent to sing this most moving aria ever written for a tenor. Thank you.

Very reminiscent of one of the early acoustic recordings. Fernando de Lucia possibly 🙂

very difficult aria. one must be in control without control
Where did you study. ?
I was at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester UK for my Masters of two years. Before that, my undergraduate was in Sociology!

Nice maybe some covering on top notes?
