When i was in school between 1970 and 1980, ABBA was THE group. A classmate, who was quite the musician, did play ABBA songs on a plastic ruler.
Put the ruler flat on the table, but let a part of it extend beyond the table border. Press the part on the table firmly against the table. Now bend the free hanging end a bit down with a finger tip and let it flip back up. It will make kind of a brrrt noise. The pitch of the noise depends on how long it extends beyond the table border. By changing how much the ruler extends, you can play different notes. He did play ABBA songs this way. I never forgot that.
