    Why in Gods name are these facilities not maintained and made available as options for the homeless, victims of domestic violence, short-stay for individuals repatriated from long term stints in correctional facilities ...

      Exactly my thoughts too, it's a waste.
      Use it, or demolish it and build something else.

      The government doesn't care about the suffering and hardship of Australians we send millions and millions to our countries such Ukraine Palestine etc foreign aid crap. Primer Cook and that power hungry clown of a Prime minister Elbo say they no how Australians are suffering with cost living accommodation blah blah but they increase taxes make more you new taxes flood country with migrants and refugees and criminals and trouble makers and then destroy our power supplies by forcing as to renewable energy 😅 that is absolutely joke like EVS and carbon neutral climate crisis. Which is a bloody big lie feed misinformation like world will end 2035 if nothing done. Will I have lived through cold war nuclear winter and the new ice age in early 90's ozone hole 🤣 if we plant trees stop cutting down so many carbon dioxide emissions will be lowed and the level we but out is ridiculous low. But nothing will change if Australians don't stand together and make the politicians be accountable and make the government's be audited by the public.

      Because the governments do not want to pay for upkeep.
      If its heritage listed its cheaper to let it fall apart

    Wow! This was eye opening! I have lived my entire life in Perth, (63 years), but had never heard of this facility. I had to locate it on Google. I imagine that it once wasn't a hovel like it is now but goodness, the children must have sweltered in the heat! I agree with many other comments: it is sad to see such a large facility going to waste particularly with the current housing crisis in Perth. I imagine that it will soon be demolished to make way for prime housing real estate and make some one very rich. Thanks for an interesting explore in my own city!

    I worked there for a number of years, when it was the community work management unit. It was discontinued in 2014. So it was in use up until then.

    my friends older brother served time here back in 1982 for burglary (got caught robbing a Chicken treat). Eventually he ended up in prison a couple of years later for armed robbery, was in and jail up until 1997 when he was sent to Graylands mental hospital. Sadly he died in 1998 from suicide (2 weeks before his 30th birthday). I spoken to several people who were sent here and what were subjected to (especially aboriginal boys like my mates brother), bloody horrific.

    I spent time in there in 1966/1967. Should have had someone film it back then.
    All the concrete floors had a red polish buffed so much they shined like mirrors and the wooden floor in the Chapel waxed and shined like glass.
    For crying out aloud! where the hell did the trees in the inside area come from. That was just a completely grassed area.
    They called the CELLS cabins (can you believe that), All we had was a bed & table (both bolted to the wall). A bible and dark blue metal water bottle on the table & a smallish galvanized shit bucket in the corner (the "cabin" had no running water or flushing toilet).
    The place was run like a marine boot camp (a lot of the officers were ex military). We were between the ages of 15 to 17 (I was made Ward of the State until I was 19 so the could keep me in there until 3 months past my 18th birthday).
    I'm not complaining, but the video doesn't give a true picture of how it was for us kids (boys only).
    PS: They fed us well, but used the withdrawal of food as an instant form of punishment.

    • @philrivers7533
      @philrivers7533 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Raise the funds to refurbish it into a homeless shelter, you're looking at $5 million minimum probably double considering every government construction project has massive blow outs in costs. Then the maintenance and staffing annually would easily exceed $1 million. So find the funding & present it to your local member of parliament
